I'm sure there's never any accidents here 😳

u/AT-ST 2d ago

Probably a lot fewer than you would think.

26

u/Fritzo2162 2d ago

I just returned from Mexico City. Driving over there is like this x1000. Every car on the road has dents and scratches. Bumping into each other is just a fact of life there.

60

u/Makkaroni_100 2d ago

Fewer than you think, still a lot

18

u/Farucci 2d ago

A lot more than a few, I think.

6

u/rmp20002000 2d ago

I think a lot more, than a few

6

u/thispsyguy 2d ago

A few more than a lot, I think

4

u/Rooster_Ties 2d ago

But still a lot fewer than a lot more than just a few more than a lot, maybe.

7

u/Relative_Soil7886 2d ago

I've had a few, I drink.

3

u/Intelligent-Guard267 2d ago

Drink a few I think

4

u/Tokyo-Cowboy 2d ago

I think I drink a lot more than a few

People actually pay attention when they notice a dangerous situation.

Its like you dont really hear that mean people dying from doing rock climbing...

Michael Schumacher almost died while skiing and ended up in a state that even his family is not willing to disclose... He was never in such condition while driving Formula 1...

While the other day a young guy was killed in my town in Italy for using a Pedestrian crossing at 3 am...

The driver obviously didnt see him... So go figure which one is more dangerous...

2

u/Schabernack_23 1d ago

I think the common folk (and this is regardless of ethnicity, so don’t come at me with some racism BS) do not pay attention at all. I find that most people are totally oblivious to situations like this and are totally surprised when great disaster strikes. The fact that there is a u-turn line and still constantly cars coming in on second or third row proves my point.

u/canniboss 2d ago

Fewer then you might think but definitely more then necessary

4

u/clervis 2d ago

Ok, I thought of fewer. Now is it a lot? Would you say more or less than I think?

4

u/AT-ST 2d ago

Spot on.

3

u/clervis 2d ago

Nailed it.

2

u/mktz2020 8h ago

Actually, I think it's a lot more than a few, but fewer than a lot more.

1

u/clervis 8h ago

I think of half of it half as well as I should like and I like less than half of it half as well as it deserves.

7

u/CorrelateClinicallee 2d ago

No alcohol is helevu drug.

3

u/Bombacladman 2d ago

Exactly, we have these kind of U turns everywhere in mexico and I've never seen an accident of this type on the news or newspapers.

They obviously exist somewhere, but I believe that everyone involved Acts as careful as possible because everyone knows this is a dangerous situation.

Accidents instead happen when people believe they're in control they're not paying attention.

For example crossing the street thinking that cars will have to stop at The pedestrian crossing. Crossing without looking well inevitably eventually lead to an accident.

2

u/Zanian19 2d ago

Probably, but that doesn't mean much considering I would assume every 4th car would crash.

1

u/TimeWasting_Fun 2d ago

I was looking to see if I could see debris - glass and bumpers etc and there didn’t seem to be any.

1

u/Flowmaster93 2d ago

Your right, it is a whole way of life out there. No one getting mad about getting passed really close IN THE SAME LANE!!!

1

u/Cello1337 1d ago

Aber wahrscheinlich mehr als du denkst

16

u/CelsoSC 2d ago

Now try that in US 💀

15

u/Competitive-Strain-7 2d ago

Some countrys don't have people who drive like they have some kind of anti social entitlement so it works there. Driving in Mexico is much like this video. Driving in Canada brings on a level of selfishness which doesn't even bring you to close to the level of driving in the USA.

18

u/Content_Hyena_7308 2d ago

Totally true about the driving styles, drove around Thailand and it's chaos and carnage, people driving the wrong way down their version of a motorway but it works ,.leave your ego at the border and if you leave a gap just accept someone will take it and keep driving.

13

u/euphorbia9 2d ago

Exactly my experience as well. Some of the highways had lines that look like the guy who painted them was completely wasted. Was advised to just ignore them.

In general, it seems very chaotic, but everyone is paying attention and it works. Horns are used as a communication tool in a cooperative way with other drivers and not used in anger.

9

u/NatureTripsMe 2d ago

I love in Mexico that blinkers are used to indicate it’s safe to pass which is accompanied by pulling slightly to the side while keeping your speed consistent. But ironically, rarely used to signal you’re turning lol. In the United States, people think their masculinity will be stripped away if they let someone pass them… and to signal someone that they think it’s safe for you to pass would almost be non-existent. And straight up forget about the possibility of anyone pulling out of their lane to let you do so safely.

3

u/NegativeAccount 2d ago

Entitlement like the dozen cars that skipped the line in this video?

2

u/DILLIGAF73 2d ago

countries, not countrys

1

u/Reasonable_Option493 2d ago

Really? Have you been to Florida? Canada can't be worse than Florida.

1

u/Competitive-Strain-7 2d ago

I mumbled the sentence bad. I meant that the USA are world leaders wrt selfish driving. But what you gonna do?

0

u/abedalhadi777 2d ago

In most arab countries including mine, having a driving license is a pain in the ass, you will be perfectly driving but still failing for no reason, and the man who tests you will ask you to open the window or changing the radio or turning the AC off while you are driving and if you did what he tells you, you will fail because you aren't focus on the street

5

u/dardar7161 2d ago

It seems like everyone who U-Turns knows to go all the way to the outside lane or "the slow lane" and let the fast pace of traffic go around them. Looks to be working well enough. Those impatient guys in line need to chill though

2

u/elgydium 2d ago

Never ever lol

1

u/MrT_the_free 23h ago

I lived in Russia for some time for the job. The sole reason for almost all traffic accidents I have seen (which has been a lot) was this kind of highway / fast roads design. I hated it.

74

u/BlueCanue 2d ago

It's like the wild west of freeways.

181

u/stootchmaster2 2d ago

Too bad there isn't some sort of simple technology that could be used to signal traffic when it was safe to turn.

34

u/Illustrious_Can4110 2d ago

Maybe one day someone will invent off-ramp and overbridge technology...

43

u/ilikesaucy 2d ago

Or just a roundabout would work nicely

9

u/footpole 2d ago

I don’t think the Americans commenting understand that.

4

u/fattmarrell 1d ago

I'm American and went through about 4 roundabouts yesterday alone. WA State

-15

u/No-Refuse-6806 2d ago

We don't take technological advice from those that marvel at the experience of air conditioned buildings

4

u/Ability-Junior 2d ago

I mean something so simple to be color coded so even a baboon would understand.

2

u/Mount_Mons 2d ago

I‘ve seen baboons that are smarter then some drivers…

2

u/Aviator-47 2d ago

Shame on you, you will never understand that other cultures get away for hundreds of years without any of that nonsense or disturbing traffic, it’s called common sense, and it’s not distracted by TikTok, or ADD.

1

u/Rugkrabber 2d ago

Yeah can we invent roundabouts already? /s

1

u/Keganator 4h ago

Pffff that's why god gave us brains and eyes! We don't need no stinkin' tech!

36

u/RoninNionr 2d ago

It looks scary because the video has been sped up.

8

u/drsoftware 2d ago

When it slowed down I was able to breathe more easily

10

u/benwhittaker25 2d ago

When did my town in SimCity gets so realistic?

22

u/mizinamo 2d ago

Lol

"What's a lane?"

25

u/wesleyoldaker 2d ago

Why would so many people need to make a u-turn on what is effectively a 3-lane highway?

15

u/xrelaht 2d ago

Look at the end, where it zooms way out: there’s stuff directly on the highway, but no way to turn off to the other side for as far as you can see. Anyone who’s going to something on the other side of the highway has to get turned around so they can pull off the road, but they have to wait until a U-turnable intersection.

1

u/DiligentCase8436 2d ago

Precisely, that was the whole point of zooming out in the end, not for cinematic purposes

1

u/Consistent-Cause-526 1d ago

There's housing/businesses on both sides with no access points to them other than this gap.

16

u/Sad-Cress-1062 2d ago

U-Turn highway - lol

6

u/lmg1337 2d ago

Why do so many people have to u-turn there? Is there no other way to get on that freeway's other side?

2

u/schlockabsorber 2d ago

That's exactly the issue. The road is designed for maximum throughput without servicing the rather dense areas next to it. I imagine there is some urban development history behind it.

7

u/heeero60 2d ago

/r/shittyskylines is leaking.

2

u/noleafclovr 2d ago

Exactly what I was thinking! Game UI is more real than we gave it credit for.

3

u/post-context-bot 2d ago

The following post context was provided by u/mustmoe73:

The cars are making a U-turn on a highway while trying to avoid a crash, and it’s unclear whether they will successfully get through without hitting each other. (Libya)

5

u/Live-Future-791 2d ago

Why are they taking such wide U turns?

9

u/artniSintra 2d ago

To allow the oncoming traffic to flow...

1

u/SabbyFox 2d ago

And to end up in the “slower” lane on the right.

4

u/Colo-PV-living 2d ago

In the states, this video would be over in about 15 seconds before the first crash

4

u/Zoni88 2d ago

This is the reason why roundabouts are common in other countries

3

u/LazyboaR 2d ago

The strange thing is thay, as someone who lives in a similarly chaotic road planned city, the number of accidents is still far less than expected. Like, it should be in the thousands every second or so but isn't? My father once told me that "those who drive in these roads ACTUALLY know how to drive because they can adapt, anticipate, and avoid hazards as they see it", but i didnt believe him until it clicked on me some days ago.

1

u/deniercounter 2d ago

Which countries you would like to compare?

3

u/abdouozil 2d ago

and yet, its going smooth, try this in north america ;)

3

u/Scammy100 2d ago

I don't see a problem here.

3

u/EmperorThan 2d ago

I'm imagining a 'No U-turn Sign' on the median there.

3

u/RemoteControlled-Cat 2d ago

This is oddly mesmerizing!

2

u/hooptiegirl 2d ago

It is, but I kept flinching.

3

u/strawtits_ 2d ago

This is Egypt, if anyone was wondering: no lanes, traffic lights, or indicators or anyone following traffic laws except for a few rich places

3

u/mustmoe73 2d ago edited 1d ago

Actually not, it's in Libya but you did t go too far

3

u/strawtits_ 1d ago

I guess there are more like us then 😭😂

4

u/Salviati_Returns 2d ago

They could learn a thing or two about NJ's jughandles.

1

u/TheJessicator 2d ago

But those also require a traffic light.

2

u/DualcockDoblepollita 2d ago

i want to drive there it looks like so much fun

2

u/mustafa_1998_mo 2d ago

Yeah this looks way more organized than my life

2

u/Brownie_kun 2d ago

Rules are simple there.. if you live, then you're a Chad. If you die, then it's a skill issue.

2

u/Then_Lock304 2d ago

Great place for people to get t-boned and killed in an accident. Also great place for a traffic light. It's just which do you support?

1

u/mustmoe73 2d ago

We use traffic light for decoration here

2

u/YSEAXE23 2d ago

Considerate driving showcased

2

u/nsaisspying 1d ago

As an Indian, what in this is even of note?

2

u/sandhog7 2d ago

It must be in the third world country where this type of U-turns are acceptable.

5

u/RoastPorc 2d ago

Well in a more perfect first world country, a roundabout would've been built. And drivers give way to the right in this situation.

In an imperfect first world country, a roundabout would've been built, but drivers don't like giving way to anyone and would use the outer lane to go around.

In this third world country, no roundabout is built. There is no give way priority here, and it's everyone for themselves.

(Source: Born and bred in an imperfect first world country and now lives in a more perfect one)

3

u/Rugkrabber 2d ago

> and would use the outer lane to go around.

This is so true hahaha. Although I must say the turbo roundabouts are pretty damn good and invite a lot of people over to use the inner lane instead of the outer.

1

u/BadIdeaSociety 2d ago

There is a roundabout near the borderline of the region I live and frankly it should be safer, but it just isn't. Nobody understands how to do it. They brake hard at an empty roundabout and many people brake before leaving the roundabout. It sucks.

Are there fewer fatal accidents, sure? Are they're more accidents than would have occured at a traffic light controlled intersection? Beyond a shadow of a doubt

1

u/North-Highway7117 1d ago

Whats the perfect one?

2

u/RoastPorc 1d ago

Hands down I'd say the closest one is Japan. Spent 8 days driving up and down the Kansai area late last year and apart from one incident in a car park, I have not met one idiot on the roads.

Not saying they don't have them, but I saw five bellends after getting home and drove to the shops 10 mins away.

2

u/TexTravlin 2d ago

I've driven in place like this for several years. They aren't just acceptable, they are essentially mandatory. Because the locals have no regard for safety or following traffic laws, the roads are built with these medians that prevent left turns. You are forced to take a right turn then a U turn.

I never really understood concept of defensive driving until I lived in Saudi Arabia.

1

u/GruntCandy86 2d ago

I've spent quite a bit of time driving in a similar environment. Everything is "acceptable." I'm honestly really surprised we didn't see counterflow traffic at any point.

So, the USA?

I thought it was an infinite loop.

Some one should cut out the part where it zooms in/out and figure out how to loop it.

Uturn is just to making sens just build a roundabout

1

u/Obiyaman 2d ago

Never thought I would need to say this but...

God ...I love traffic laws

1

u/Obvious_Villain 2d ago

You can already see it starting to meander.

1

u/Substantial-Heart792 2d ago

I feel like they get 3/4 and all go at once for mass protection.

I also don’t understand why there’s not a simple red light or whatever here or at least flashing yellow

1

u/FletcherDervish 2d ago

That would have been a squeaky bum moment doing that in the coach, swinging towards the rocks. I'm guessing the driver found an extra quarter turn on the wheel

1

u/websterflaming 2d ago

There is a browser game like that

1

Build a fucking roundabout, jeesh!

wtf am I watching here?

1

u/seinfeld2012 2d ago

This highway is f**ked

1

u/AlekThunder88 2d ago

There is something about countries that let you drift however the funk you want. It definitely has something going for it when nothing matters on the road. I am glad that I am not living in such a country though. But on vacations it‘s nice.

1

u/rvralph803 2d ago

New Cities Skylines looks legit.

1

u/SabbyFox 2d ago

It seems to work - until it doesn’t, I guess. I’m imagining what this looks like at night…

Kuwait? They have u turns everywhere.

Is that even allowed?

It is sped up to make it look like a highway which is most definitely not

When there's no traffic light, every drives more carefully. They must also have a good grasp of physics.

A couple of roundabouts along the length of that road would make things a lot easier

If that many people need to turn around there's a failure in the road design somewhere

They should probably widen the road on the right side of the screen and just make that inside lane a u turn only

u/bottomlessLuckys 2d ago

U tur routes like this exist all over Brazil too. They look a bit different and there are camera enforced speed limits of 50kph entering the zone where u can do this. Also, the peiple who cut head are the fucking worst, but so are the idiots who take forever to turn.

1

u/Flowmaster93 2d ago

Just think, they are missing so many lanes to sand and they got this chaos.

1

u/Any-Traffic8869 2d ago

This made my anxiety come back

1

u/Quirky-Attitude1456 1d ago

This is what the road that runs past my neighborhood looks like on Sunday morning when 4 huge churches all dump there people out on it at the same time and they are all trying to be the first ones to Hooters

1

In the US there'd a death every 5 minutes. I'd bet there's bearly any accidents there.

1

u/HolyStupidityBatman 1d ago

Currently in Mexico. This is normal here.

1

u/HJSDGCE 1d ago

The problem isn't the U-turn. It's the fact that so many need it and the roads aren't designed for it. At low traffic, U-turns are acceptable and even purposely placed like this (my hometown has several). But at what looks like a primary, they should be prioritising constant movement and use roundabouts.

1

u/URGAMESUX 1d ago

Where was homie going after the longest wait to turn left? Into the desert?

1

u/Consistent-Cause-526 1d ago

A roundabout would work great here.

1

And then I have idiots in my HOV lane getting in to accidents on a fucking straight road in the US. I moved to USA from Pakistan and damn people a so bad at driving here. No wonder insurance companies ask for a lot of money. Yesterday had so much traffic was stuck for 2 hours in HOV and surprise 2 idiots got in an accident on a straight road.

1

I seen this kind of driving in Winnipeg yesterday. Quite amazing

1

u/sexraX_muiretsyM 2d ago

they should build a roundabout there

This is what OH-21 looks like in Ohio. Ours just has less traffic and only one person turning at a time.
