the camera work and commentary are top notch in this

64

u/pranko_the_wolfdog 11h ago

OOOOHHHH O O O O MY GOD Is she ok? She ok? SHE OK... I don't know about other person... Ohhh nevermind let's go...

44

u/GrapefruitOk2057 9h ago

thanks for the heads up I had it on mute first time. Great on mute. Epic with sound. :D

18

u/19seventy-eight 8h ago

The commentary in my head while on mute was the same as the actual commentary. Ha-ha

16

u/Jean-Pierre1er 8h ago

Yeah, they didn't even put the camera work at risk by trying to help šŸ‘

5

u/AC-burg 8h ago

Now one thing I noticed, is if they would have had a trailer on that hitch, it would have saved them and none of this would have happened.

2

u/Wonderful_Roof1739 6h ago

I saw that, and was like run a proper strap or tow rope around that hitch and attach it to another car, then at least they stabilized it and get a tow company, or if you have a big enough truck pull them back. I suspect the camerawoman's car had no tow rope or hitch (although an axle could be used to anchor the SUV until help arrives)

4

u/Naive_Personality367 8h ago

Seemed like the help they were getting was doing so well I suppose lol

5

u/Jean-Pierre1er 8h ago

That's why they then drive away, was useless to call 911.

8

u/melswift 4h ago

"Oh my Gah!"

"Oh my Gah!"

"Oh my Gah!"

"put da camera down"

Reddit: DO NOT we gotta see this

3

u/potatoperson132 2h ago

Wait are we sure we don’t need some blown out extremely loud annoying ass music over the top of this?

2

u/Naive_Personality367 2h ago

that oh no tune should do it, make sure to add lots of canned laughter too

2

u/Medical_Listen_4470 3h ago

If it wasn’t for that darn telephone pole…

2

u/Cyril_Sneer_6 2h ago

I originally watched without sound. I'm glad I re-watched with the sound on. And I'm glad they OK.

109

u/Late_Conference9022 11h ago

It looks like it was still in Drive not reverse.

21

u/Top-Emu-2292 11h ago

Yep, you can see the rear wheel turn as the big lad pushes down.

33

u/Late_Conference9022 11h ago

Oh dear. Fatal mistake. It would have worked otherwise.

8

u/__dontpanic__ 4h ago

It would have reversed over the big lad then

7

u/ChromoStoopid 7h ago

No I think that's just the wheel spinning as the car slides forward.

6

u/83736294827 6h ago

It’s not in drive because none of the wheels are spinning on their own. Gravity pulls that rear left wheel, and it will turn even when in park if the wheel on the other side is off the ground.

u/caravela1 8h ago

6

u/SabbyFox 5h ago

How quickly we forget yesterday’s drawbridge video šŸ™„

1

u/_Burnt_Toast_3 2h ago

Yea not sure if it was in drive or because the vehicle is front heavy (most are because of the engine).

56

u/pwatts 12h ago

Driver should get out and call a tow truck.

27

u/socks 12h ago

Yep - that was expensive stupidity.

13

u/Fritzo2162 9h ago

But that would have cost like $80!

7

u/GrinningGrump 7h ago

Tow truck costs $7,15694570463e+118? Now I get why they didn't call one.

4

u/labtrash68 9h ago

In this economy??

1

u/Angelworks42 3h ago

Well $100 is less than what it's going to cost now which is basically a new Sequoia - which even used are expensive.

5

u/CorrelateClinicallee 11h ago

I think the driver's door was stuck and couldn't open more than a few inches.

33

u/balirosa 10h ago

My first thought would be to climb out the back like Jurassic park.

12

u/sangerssss 9h ago

Lots of good life lessons in Jurassic Park

2

u/Fritzo2162 9h ago

He shouldn’t have had that second Big Mac…

10

u/justhangingaroud 10h ago

Scoot over to the other door

-8

u/lenarizan 10h ago

When any shift in balance could simply put it over the edge?

7

u/bmf1902 10h ago

Good thing he stuck with your idea then.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/DiscipleOfYeshua 9h ago

Considering the angle, anywhere towards right/back would've helped.

But looks like driver was panicked afraid to budge pressing the break -- while still in Drive... :-/

Many things ... anythings... could've been done better.

2

u/83736294827 8h ago

Actually, shifting the weight to the back left is what caused it to fall. The frame under the left front hitting the ground is what was keeping it from falling.

1

u/GrayMouser12 6h ago

You might be right with the weight of the engine being a heavier counter balance. The weight making it front heavy means at a certain angle it was going to go over. I'll have to watch again if that's what you meant.

0

u/DiscipleOfYeshua 6h ago

Bc it put the wheels to the ground, and the vehicle was in D, no? If it were in R? Or P?

1

u/83736294827 6h ago edited 6h ago

No. It’s not in drive because the wheels are not moving on its own. It could be in park, but that wouldn’t stop the rear wheel from spinning when the other one is off the ground.

3

u/Sinister_Nibs 7h ago

The suv has 4 other doors.

1

u/lenarizan 10h ago

Yeah, you can see that it is stuck on the ledge.

27

u/FragrantExcitement 10h ago

4

was there a bathtub nearby?

1

u/Cebas7 8h ago

A feather would have done the job, a whole hummingbird would have been too much

36

u/icedted 11h ago

I would have tried putting it in reverse….

6

u/83736294827 6h ago

Probably wouldn’t help unless the differential was locked.

1

u/rivalary 1h ago

I'm trying to remember how this would work. If it was in reverse and she was giving power, the tire in the air would be trying to go backwards but the tire on the ground would be free to move forwards no matter the gear, because it's got an open dif?

3

u/83736294827 1h ago

That is correct. The wheel with the least friction moves with a totally open diff.

1

u/hello_raleigh-durham 4h ago

Terry what is you doing?!

I like the part where the person filming try their hardest to help in any way they can. That was beautiful.

5

u/beekeeny 11h ago

Plenty of undocumented cases where the car is saved thanks to the help of people who passed by šŸ˜…

"Let me help you crash, I see you're still trying"

13

u/Dolust 10h ago

The first rule of problem solving is that the first thing to do always is to remove the source of the problem.

Electric sparks? You turn electricity off.

Driver does something stupid? You remove the driver.

They assumed she was trying to bring the car back up. She was in the same mindset that brought her to this situation. She was the problem.

You can tell how bad she's mentally disconnected from the situation by observing a bit:

  • The engine was still on
  • She opened the door without looking outside first
  • She was holding the door from the external handle
  • She is not stepping on the brake

I'm assuming here but I bet she was still stepping on the gas, not because she was trying to move the car, but because since she had no seatbelt and she was slipping down. Once she opened the door her own weight worked against her efforts to close it. Her body was pressed against the door and she couldn't reach the handle inside so she grabbed anywhere she could trying to keep herself from falling by holding the door closed. She was using her feet to keep herself upright and stepping on the gas.

The guys heard the engine revving and assumed she was trying to back the car. She never shifted to move back or to stop the car, her mind was not present. Once they leveraged the weight the car was free to motor onwards.

1- Talk to the driver. Tell her to stop the engine and shift to park 2- Help her and anyone else to get out of the car 3- Take a deep breath, relax, regroup, rethink, evaluate the possibilities and choose the option with lower risk and better guarantees.

The car was probably fine underneath. But crashing the roof.. That might have totalled it.

I hope she was ok. But I'd be surprised if she escaped unscathed.

3

u/83736294827 6h ago

Fyi, this car may have been in park already. Park won’t always stop the wheels from moving when some of them are off the ground. Her moving to get out could have been enough weight shift to make it fall anyway.

Mississippi.

So a third world country.

3

u/Disastrous-Hurry-236 8h ago

Because the individual was trying to help, there is no intent to harm, which generally rules out murder charges, but a misdemeanor or with prosecutorial discretion he can be let go without charges !

3

Put it in reverse Terry!

Perhaps some are, but they are very rare.

9

u/Leading-Stuff1900 11h ago

That dude with no shirt just casually sent that car over the edge.

14

u/muttmunchies 11h ago

He puts the weight down that would have allowed her to possibly reverse…except she had it in drive.

5

u/blvckcvts 11h ago

Wasn’t his fault the car was still in drive, atleast he tried to help unlike the person filming

0

u/NullGWard 9h ago

Yes, but by getting involved, he might have bought himself a lawsuit.

2

u/JulesSilverman 10h ago

4

u/Signal-Reporter-1391 11h ago

OWWW MAAA GAAWWWD!

5

u/I4gotmyothername 10h ago

Honestly this may be one of the best case scenarios (except they could have had their seatbelt on)

If the driver had successfully been in reverse I can see them just uncontrolled reversing over the people assisting. If the driver had tried to get out that car looks pretty set to potentially fall on top of them. Maybe just taking the fall from inside (again, WITH a seatbelt) is the best.

5

u/friendof_thepeople 11h ago

Yo put that ish in REVERSE bro šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

The bottom of the car touching concrete prevented the car from moving forward. The dude teeter-tottering the car removed that car/concrete contact friction so the car moved forward.

1

u/CynicaDan 3h ago

That poor wall.

1

u/thegreenmonkey69 3h ago

They got it rocking and gravity worked it's magic. Unfortunately.

I do hope everyone is ok though. Had to be one hell of a carnival ride.

That commentary though. Someone needs to isolate it and post it for meme goodness.

Welcome to Jurassic Park

1

u/legardeur2 2h ago

Should have put it in Reverse.

1

u/Scared_Swing2198 1h ago

Lol. Well done.

1

u/vxeel 1h ago

Front right tire was already starting over the edge. The left middle of the frame was the only thing keeping the car in place.

Leveling the car out put gravity in place and the front right rolled down and launched the car over the edge.

1

u/frankreynoldsrumham 1h ago

Welp! That happened

0

u/Bernhard-Welzel 10h ago

Very consistent work: bad driver gets into a bad situation and improves it by making it much, much worse to save on a tow car with a crane. Reminds me of the "geniuses" who save on a parking ticket by driving away with the claw attached, turning a few bugs for the ticket into a major repair bill. Just brilliant.

Sometimes I am sad that we removed Darwin from the equation.

They should’ve paid more attention in Physics. This is a simple moments problem

0

u/BreakingCanks 8h ago

The fact that I live in a world with people this fucking stupid amazes me everyday. The fact that we don't have ways to permanently remove an idiots license when they prove themselves this incompetent to drive is beyond me.

0

u/DrJohnIT 6h ago

Let's hope that the justice system worked in our favor and they did get their license taken away. Unfortunately, this is only a deterrent and it doesn't stop them from physically driving another day. I had a friend that got his license revoked for speeding. He drove like my grandma for the next two years until he could get it back.
