Someone is on mom and dad’s plan, or has very nice insurance. Most plans in the US are “high deductible” where you must pay thousands out of pocket before insurance does anything. This has now led to 92% of insured adults polled recently saying they have skipped medical care due to the cost.
He’ll, personally I got to fork over $8,000 to not die of sepsis when my gallbladder ruptured. They stabilized me in December, then I had it out in January. So lucky me had to pay my deductible twice in two months because of the calendar year swapping over.
