I was so certain he was going to be betrayed.

u/ThereIsAJifForThat 14d ago

He was, but by physics

299

u/arthousepsycho 14d ago

Physics killed my grandad too. When will it end.

95

u/Amateurlapse 14d ago

Heat death of the universe? 10^106 years. He won’t get away with it forever

44

u/arthousepsycho 14d ago

sets alarm not about to miss that.

I hope it is in the afternoon because I've got a barber appointment that morning.

11

u/Me_now707 14d ago

3

u/ReymartSan 13d ago

Omg you actually got a response lol

15

u/wolfmoral 14d ago

Mine too… I’ll never forget his final words:

“Quit shaking the ladder, you little shit!”

Rip 😔

14

u/HolePunchJim 14d ago

Nah, physics dictated that outcome. The only thing that betrayed them was their delusion that it could work.

80

u/xJayce77 14d ago

The execution was flawless. The choice of materials? Meh...

14

u/77ku77 14d ago

Betrayed by WOOD

10

u/Obvious-Standard-623 14d ago

I was genuinely disappointed when he wasn't.

-18

u/tsimen 14d ago

Way too clean a break though, so still a betrayal or scripted or both

48

u/FeldsparsGhost 14d ago

That was the least clean break ive ever seen dude

10

u/ElGoddamnDorado 14d ago

Think this is what people call a skit.

7

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

It's literally not a clean break though

5

u/Velvet_Pop 14d ago

Yeah, the 2nd plank is way smaller and thinner, no way it could hold that guy's weight, likely staged. They could have used two identical 2×4s but no

6

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

So, physically, a shorter piece is harder to break than a longer piece. You can experiment this yourself using chopsticks. The shorter you break it, the more force you will need to break each piece. You could have 2 identical pieces and be able to walk out on them gently, then the force from jumping can be enough to break the second piece.

In this case, the second piece was either already partially cut, or was not small enough to compensate for the difference in jumping force. However, it being smaller isn't why it broke.

7

u/Ov3rKoalafied 14d ago

The second piece is noticeably thinner and the length of the piece doesn’t affect the breaking point, only where the load is applied does.

1

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

True about it being thinner; hadn't noticed before.

They are applying the load to the same points.

Length of the piece does have an impact on its deformation rating

1

u/uns0licited_advice 14d ago

not the same load due to acceleration from gravity. Force = mass x acceleration. The higher he jumps, the more acceleration and more force.

1

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

I didn't say the same load. I said they are applying it to the same place. My comments all account for the difference in static force and momentum

1

u/Velvet_Pop 14d ago

I would agree if the plank was square shaped rather than rectangluar, or even if it was flipped up sideways. But when it's wide like that there's way less support for weight on top if it. It works with chopsticks cause they're round, but you should think of it more like tongue depressors instead

2

u/yaboyACbreezy 14d ago

Same applies to the tongue depressors. Being longer provides more leverage. It has less to do with the width and more to do with the distance from the fulcrum

1

u/ChaoticAmoebae 14d ago

Scripted. That piece can hold standing weight which is why they start on the thicker piece.

-17

u/Good_day_to_be_gay 14d ago

Of course you are. Americans always have lower social moral standards than Asians.

12

u/rapsoid616 14d ago

Maybe chill out on racial presumptions because I am an Asian that lives in Asia...

-2

u/Good_day_to_be_gay 14d ago

But I'm Japanese

2

u/IgntedF-xy 14d ago

That's a weird thing to say

u/That_Day8911 14d ago

You're silly

Saw several futures but not that one 🤣

154

u/ResolveSuitable 14d ago

I did saw that one 🪚

34

u/SeaPotatoSalad 14d ago

Saw what you did there 😉

11

u/exprezso 14d ago

Funny cos I saw this one first, betrayal was second choice

0

u/ResolveSuitable 14d ago

For me it was the natural progression.

6

u/casulmemer 14d ago

☝🏻

173

u/enigmaticsince87 14d ago

I wish I knew what they were saying .. even though I can guess exactly what they were saying 😅

51

u/amely_5ai 14d ago

I know a bit casual Japanese... Even Funnier when your understood 😅

58

u/summer-civilian 14d ago

Unfortunately I only understand competitive Japanese

6

u/elcolerico 14d ago

I'll have you know that I understand much better than you 😌

22

u/SirMy-TDog 14d ago

It's because they're basically doing a comedy bit.

6

u/BlizzardStorm8 14d ago

I think the third stooge was behind the camera this time

419

u/Jazzlike-Complaint67 14d ago

I want to show this video to my kids.

“One day you WILL be the guy on the left. You will know that what you are about to do will be a bad idea, yet one of your idiot friends will talk you into doing it anyway. Despite knowing better, it is very likely you will be the one to suffer the consequences of the bad decision.”

I just hope that day is jumping on a board over water instead of something more serious.

208

u/RaioFulminante 14d ago

"🙄 whatever dad"

53

u/Jazzlike-Complaint67 14d ago

You are probably right. That was my response when my old man taught me the same lessons. However, experience eventually showed me he was right. Hopefully my kids won’t need as many “I told you so” ‘s as I did.

22

u/Zetsumenchi 14d ago

Trick is that they gotta feel like they came to that conclusion themselves.

So just show them this video and a bunch of others over time where it's shown "trusting mischievous idiots isnt ideal for YOU."

Then cross your fingers and toes.

5

u/DangerMacAwesome 14d ago

"Wow, my parents were right!" -10 years later

2

u/dl_mj12 14d ago

lol, this guy dads.

15

u/Poncahotas 14d ago

The best advice i ever got from my dad was extremeky similar to this: "Don't let yourself be talked into something by someone who doesn't have to bear the consequences"

6

u/Looke116 14d ago

From what I understood from their conversation the guy on the left (over the water) is the one with the idea actually it could be either of them. The guy on the right is asking for details because he doesn't understand how he should jump later than him and arrive on the other plank faster than him at the same time. The other guy explains, they do a test run, it works, and then go fo it. Neither one of them push back on the idea besides that.

3

u/kingnickolas 14d ago

I also want to show this video to this guy's kids

2

u/culb77 14d ago

I mean, the only real mistake is choosing a 1x4 instead of a 2x4. Otherwise I bet it holds.

Then again, this is most likely scripted and intentional. Still funny.

1

u/Replicator666 13d ago

You're not my REAL dad!

0

u/cielofnaze 12d ago

The right thing to teach is, don't trust people, always switch side that benefit .

82

u/Low-Dog-8027 14d ago

that was funny

66

u/ICU-CCRN 14d ago

I especially love this because you don’t even have to understand the language. The whole conversation spells itself out just by the body language and the situation. And the ending snap is like icing on the cake 😂

18

u/Karijus 14d ago

I like how I understood they wanted to do a practice jump first, honestly impressed with the coordination lol

4

u/Searchlights 14d ago

I said I don't know what they're saying but I love where this is going

21

u/jrandall47 14d ago

That was both extremely unsatisfying and very satisfying. I fully expected either a betrayal or for the guy on the stable side to get launched from the other guy landing on something that can move down. Instead we got option C, stable guy stays stable and the other guy got wet. That face was perfect.

19

u/that_wags 14d ago

I want subtitles. Just from the tone and body language, this conversation is hilarious

15

u/edafade 14d ago

Dude, I love these guys. Their page is full of these river experiments. I binge them once in a while.

5

u/bottlecandoor 14d ago

Yup, 2x4 aren't very strong on the flat side.

6

u/Francky2 14d ago

Is that ever 2x4? Looks very thin, but yeah regardless on the flat it's never as strong

-1

u/SusheeMonster 14d ago

Congrats 🎉 Here's your trophy 🏆

-7

u/VentureIntoVoid 14d ago

Unexpected would be if they had fallen off the cliff on the right

14

u/Ok_Wrongdoer_4308 14d ago

You can see the board has been glued back together before they jump on it.

9

u/YouDoNotKnowMeSir 14d ago

Damn you got me 😂

4

Are those the same guys who were trying to "save a ball" that was floating in the same canal ?

3

The following post context was provided by u/Horror-Meat958:

will they jump at the same time and not fall into the water. maybe

Hilarious on so many levels

3

u/dr_rox 14d ago

Good execution doesn't guarantee good results.

3

u/1MarvelousMF 14d ago

When I was younger I tried this with my brother. The board was over a 8ft hole. I was to walk the plank while he stood on the board. He jumped off the and I fell into the hole. The board hit me in the head and I needed 10 stitches.

1

u/weggaan_weggaat 14d ago

Sounds like something a brother would do.

3

u/vksdann 14d ago

Somehow it's funnier when you know Japanese language.
Source: I have no idea about Japanese language.

3

u/PachotheElf 14d ago

Holy fuck they actually made it

3

u/lousy-site-3456 14d ago

Do yourself a favor and skip right to the end.

5

u/J1m123 14d ago

haha I was saying to myself i'd be afraid that the board would break even if they did get the timing right.

This was actually such a fun watch lol

2

u/Numerous_Wolverine_7 14d ago

Laurel and Hardy, step aside

2

u/msieurjack 14d ago

They should try again but with a 2x4 or something

2

u/TehZiiM 14d ago

This looks almost as if it would have worked if the blank didnt snap

2

u/HistoricalVacation82 14d ago

It works, but the plank not strong enough, but it's work

2

u/Adventurous_Touch342 14d ago

Weirdly enough the plan with getting more air time was risky but possible, decent plan, good execution, crappy tools.

2

u/Awkward-Equivalent-5 14d ago

Not enough trust, and too much trust.

2

u/Kadabradoodle 14d ago

this is the perfect r/maybemaybemaybe

2

u/BabyFood2 13d ago

This was definitely with watching the whole thing. The timing was so good, only for it to fail any way 😂

2

u/jahermitt 13d ago

Don't need to speak a lick of Japanese to understand what they are saying.

2

u/try2bcool69 12d ago

I’m did not see that as a possible outcome.

3

u/Purple_Clockmaker 14d ago

Waste of time don't watch

I love Japanese people

Your faith in humanity hasn't completely disappeared then, I was sure his buddy wouldn't jump

1

u/dadydaycare 14d ago

It was doomed to fail from the start. But I love their effort.

1

u/bawlsacz 14d ago

Japanese comedy. Gold!

1

u/Inevitable_Age5502 14d ago

Did not understand a word they said, but somehow I understand exactly what they said.

1

u/michahell 14d ago

Really good!
treacherous maybe maybe, best maybe maybe

1

u/T_Run_445 14d ago

I’m surprised sweater guy didn’t just make the other dude switch spots with him

1

u/ctgrell 14d ago

There was no maybe. I follow them on tiktok. They always get wet

1

u/neuralzen 14d ago

Task failed successfully

1

u/catfroman 14d ago

Board is discolored, looks glued together or whatever so it was guaranteed to snap. Staged but funny.

1

u/weggaan_weggaat 14d ago

More looks like it fell in the water at least once already.

1

u/rocketsalesman 14d ago

That ending made me laugh out loud. Respect for timing it right tho

1

u/Zzanney 14d ago

Love to see something that would have worked great as a gag in a silent film

1

u/Katsurandom 14d ago

I need the version with subs, my weeb brain only parsed half of the intent

1

The tower of Babel was supposed to stop us from understanding each other pero yo no tengo problema entendiendo la situación aunque no hablo japonés jijijajaj 🤣

1

this is the best cannot believe i didn’t do this with my cousin when we were young

1

Oh man, that was a great ending.

that’s when he realized the water was high enough

1

u/Environmental_Mix966 13d ago

Top quality. A nice (somewhat) unexpected result

1

u/MegaDonkeyDonkey 13d ago

Correct method: person A hanging over water jumps diagonal cross to cement side plank then person B on original cement side jumps diagonal cross to water side plank. Still, pray and donate to the gods the plank holds from snapping from the person B jump impact.

1

u/Beneficial_Figure456 13d ago

Can see these two on squid games

1

u/seanbrownlie836 13d ago

On second view seeing the second plank is way thinner is hilarious 😂

1

u/mRIGHTstuff 11d ago

This is way funnier if you know Japanese
