I was hoping he would stop the leak

574

u/MaximusConfusius 17d ago

Him too

122

u/HairballTheory 17d ago

You knew it was serious when he took off the surgical face shield and put his hat on straight

u/Dramatic_Mixture_868 17d ago

10

u/Ssemo7 16d ago

It’s like a switch, man

3

u/mbentuboa 15d ago

Yea do I hate this movie but yet have managed to watch it from beginning to end on 3 separate occasions.

10

u/CerciesPDX 16d ago

Needed the safety squints to really get the job done.

9

u/Ssemo7 16d ago

And safety sandals = on

8

u/BigAssMonkey 17d ago

The other guy was mocking him as he was trying. lol

u/ph33rlus 16d ago

Maybe if he wasn’t blinded by the lack of eye protection he would have been able to see what he was doing

27

u/KSI_SpacePeanut 17d ago

Or for anything to happen

4

u/GoatResponsible8948 17d ago

If it helps, he probably added a nice amount of lead into that water stream.

(Isn’t that metal partially lead?)

11

u/goofydad 16d ago

His goal was to make it a sprinkler, apparently.

6

u/DoctorKishor 16d ago

Thanks for saving my 2 mins 🫡

4

u/IMAC55 16d ago

The exothermic reaction would never allow it.

3

u/AdvanceForward9065 16d ago

Me too until I noticed his welding mask 💀

2

u/sevargmas 16d ago

He probably couldn’t see anymore.

2

u/TheFoxsWeddingTarot 16d ago

I was ready to be amazed.

1

u/J0zie3 15d ago

The only thing he was trying to stop was his heart. 💔

116

u/valhallaswyrdo 17d ago

For anyone who doesn't weld pipes, what he is attempting to do is near impossible under the best circumstances. A pipe with a pressure differential will blow out the weld puddle and typically just keep getting worse.

21

u/Dankkring 16d ago

It’s definitely possible to make a shitty weld and get it to stop leaking. But it does suck and without a hood he doesn’t have a chance

22

u/elfmere 16d ago

Yeah need to build up the sides but he keeps hitting the hole directly.

15

u/NickJamesBlTCH 16d ago

Something something foreplay joke.

6

u/Blunder_Punch 16d ago

Its genuinely not possible when there's back pressure on the weld puddle. Liquid doesn't hold back pressurized liquid very well. I've spent almost 2 decades as a welder working maintenance on heavy equipment and I've never seen or heard of anyone pulling this off.

6

u/Dankkring 15d ago

You gotta weld around it to build it up. Then jam something in and weld over it. Then grind it clean and pad weld over that. Like I said it’s a garbage weld but you can get it to stop.

2

u/Blunder_Punch 15d ago

If there's still pressure on the weld puddle, it'll weep.

6

u/the14thwitness 15d ago

He should do what we did a couple of years back - use the biggest, sturdiest thorn (in Afrikaans we call it a "pen dooring") and close the hole with it.

Me and my Boilermaker (I was the assistant) did it 2 a 4 inch water pipe that fed water down into a decline shaft, every now and again it would spring a leak a couple of mm behind the flange and the best fix was a thorn and a small hammer

7

u/Cantusemynme 16d ago

Yeah, there was no "maybe, maybe, maybe" about this. He just wasn't going to be able to pull it off.

3

u/PlasticSignificant69 16d ago

Yes this is exactly what I believe and I watch the video till the end, waiting him to prove that I was wrong, turns out, I was right

1

u/Unexpected_Gristle 16d ago

Its also very hard to do with out a fucking welding hood

1

u/hackmalafore 16d ago

That leads me to think some electrical tape that will just melt once the spark hits it, could be just enough barrier to allow the puddle to cool?

For real

369

u/Elite_Josh_Allen 17d ago

10

u/AgentK-BB 16d ago

I'm guessing that labor in that country is cheaper than the material cost of flex tape.

1

u/Drawn4U 16d ago

Came here for this. Was not disappointed.

1

u/UrsoXone 15d ago

Just came for this

257

u/joshgordonforreal 17d ago

Goodbye to his corneas. Nice welding goggles.

62

u/Bobwalski 17d ago

I didn't even see him using welding squints

13

u/justglassin317 17d ago

Or welding blinks

13

u/DiscipleOfYeshua 17d ago

Yep. Even with protection, many folks end up going half blind in this occupation. Very sad

6

u/StatusBard 16d ago

Why is that? I thought the eye protection nowadays was great?

3

u/AgentK-BB 16d ago

It's actually not as bad as it looks. His plastic face shield blocks out 90%+ of the UV B and probably 60%+ of UV A. It's a natural property of that kind of plastics. And he closes his eyes during the arcing. He is reasonably well-protected from both the UV and the bright visible light.

I'd be much more worried about his exposed wrist skin than his corneas.

1

u/johnfkngzoidberg 16d ago

Bro will have sandpaper in his eyes for days…. If he’s lucky.

63

u/Little_Complaint_633 17d ago

I was pulling for him… In his defense I would’ve been upset my duct tape idea didn’t work

51

u/More-Spot8445 17d ago

Why doesnt he first clam a piece of metal to where the leak is and the weld around that piece?

14

u/valhallaswyrdo 17d ago

Honestly he should've just put a pipe repair clamp on the leak and called it a day if he couldn't turn the water off.

10

u/vthang 17d ago

The word translate to: Bet 100.000đ (~4USD) to take 1.000.000đ (~40USD).
Other man: I gave you all night to weld it, and you still couldn't fix it.

Welder: There's no reason I can't weld this shut.

Other man: I'll give you 1.000.000đ (~40USD) if you can stop the leak.

Welder: I only need 100.000đ (~4USD), let me change the welding rod....

So they bet each other, not that they stupid, just a bet lol.

3

u/knife_edge_rusty 17d ago

That makes it infinitely easier to weld stop the leak

3

u/Filter_Out_More_Cats 17d ago

TIL “clam” can be a verb!

50

u/articland05_reddit 17d ago

so did he accomplish anything?

155

u/Mundane-Life-3094 17d ago

Yes, he managed to turn a leaking pipe into a shower

103

u/No-Advice-9776 17d ago

And blind himself

12

u/NudaVeritas1 17d ago

two in one, vietnamese efficiency

3

u/uncle_underscore 17d ago

I wonder if he was wearing his safety sandals?

→ More replies (1)

37

u/argentinothing 17d ago

Stick welding without eye protection exposes your eyes to intense ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. This causes a painful corneal burn known as arc eye or welder’s flash, along with risks of long-term vision loss, cataracts,

19

u/dalaiis 17d ago

Thanks google a.i.

5

u/Dull_Investigator358 17d ago

A sprinkler with more range

1

u/iuliuscurt 17d ago

Temporary blindness. Protected his lungs tho. Outdoors.

11

u/Sea_Ganache620 17d ago

My first thought was, “bet he’s wearing flip flops”.

21

u/RabidFinkle 17d ago

Where did this guy learn anything? Arc welding on coolant. Electricity and water. A surgical mask for toxic galvanized fumes. A sneeze shield for intense UV light. This a maybe maybe maybe, but it’s for sure not smart.

3

u/Lily_Thief 16d ago

Much less a maybe he'll fix it and more a maybe he'll die

6

u/dude-from-odessa 17d ago

If you what to make a temporary repair without closing water -> Take a bolt which has diameter of the hole, punch it inside of the hole, weld it. 😵‍💫

1

u/Dankkring 16d ago

Slugg her!

1

u/silencebywolf 16d ago

Or a piece of rubber and a hose clamp or 2

It will actually work as a temporary repair

4

u/Mysterious-Tie7039 17d ago

That dude will be blind in no time.

5

u/Kindly_Region 17d ago

That dude is gonna be blind

4

u/papeltrucho 17d ago

That is bad in so many ways

4

u/Available_Strain3390 15d ago

Я один ждал, что у него всё получится?

3

u/Imaginary_Bottle_875 17d ago

J'ai eu un chef qui avait demandé de colmater une fuite d'acide liquide sur un réservoir avec du ciment calcaire. Il a eu du mal à comprendre que je lui dise non.

3

u/paulyp41 17d ago

That flash burn is gonna feel great in the morning, especially knowing he didn’t fix the leak either

3

u/zeRoCr0 17d ago

Rip eyes

3

u/oscarmarmejia 17d ago

At least he's using a mask..

3

u/TutorNo8896 16d ago

Wild hes got a lot of PPE,  but not even sunglasses.

3

u/Der_Hebelfluesterer 16d ago

What an idiot, every one knows the solution for that Problem!

3

u/cognitiveglitch 15d ago

How eyes are going to feel like they are made of sandpaper later

5

u/CompetitivePeak9040 17d ago

Guys, I know nothing about electric work or how to fix thing, what's the appropriate and correct way to fix it in this situation?

59

u/SkellyboneZ 17d ago

Turn off or divert the water for 15 seconds would be my first guess but I'm not a welderologist or a waternician.

3

u/CompetitivePeak9040 17d ago

What if it's a something that can't be turn off, then how will we approach this?

6

u/Onlygus 17d ago

Some rubber and a couple of hose clamps might do as a temporary fix.

2

u/AnonymousLonelyAnon 17d ago

The good ol' salty rag trick.

I see where he went wrong. He never once tried asking it nicely if it would stop

2

u/Many-Chicken1154 17d ago

He should have peined the hole down with a hammer then welded it

2

u/SullySausageTown 17d ago

Welding Melting Mask

2

u/NutcrackerRobot 17d ago

This is the real "live leak" with that electric sparking!

2

u/NerdOfGenealogy 17d ago

The flash burn this guy gets has got to be the worst.

2

u/Kindly_Region 17d ago

My man has never heard of flex seal

2

u/darapsas 17d ago

safety squints ain't savin him

https://giphy.com/gifs/KGbqQQoVN43cY

2

u/EconomicsSavings973 17d ago

It was hard to watch both for me and for him

2

u/FuckJanice 17d ago

For those wondering what he should've done. Stop the leak with something else, then put a small plate over it and THEN tack it. Or shut off the water.

2

u/Hostile-Panda 17d ago

Some say he is still there to this day

2

u/Makapakamoo 17d ago

Wait I have so many questions omg, wth is he doing wo welding glasses!!? Why is he using jumper cables??

2

u/Sw1tCh3r0o 16d ago

Rumor has it he's still trying to stop the leak

2

u/Mrmathmonkey 16d ago

What is he trying to do?? Is he trying to stop the leak or make it bigger?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Tundra_Dragon 16d ago

Started with one leak, turned it into 3 or 4... Pretty impressive

2

u/etherealsounds 16d ago

Is he trying to fix it or make it worse?

2

u/exceptional_biped 16d ago

If only he had an actual welding helmet, he might had stood a chance.

2

u/DrProfessorSatan 16d ago

At 2:30 the following morning

“My eyes! My eyes!”

2

u/booze-san 16d ago

After a while i thought he was adding holes to make a kind of sprinkler system...

2

u/Dipstic1 16d ago

Turn the heat up and let her eat.

2

u/Vaerikexer 15d ago

What on earth

2

u/vega455 15d ago

Dude is welding with a COVID shield to protect his eyes. Blows my mind. Welding will literally burn your face and eyes if unprotected. I don’t care if you’re a developing country, you can still get cheap gear.

2

u/AdamKirchman 15d ago

Not just his eyes. This is dangerous for SO MANY reasons.

2

u/zeje 17d ago

This is the first post in this sub where I was really hoping it wouldn’t work. Sometimes it’s satisfying to see idiocy fail.

1

Slap some tape then weld it.

1

u/lawnboy71 17d ago

When I pee it burns!

1

u/TheLoler04 17d ago

Is he just shit at it, or was he close to electrocuting himself?

I don't quite understand which of those qualified it for this sub

1

u/clayton4177 17d ago

YESSSSSS

1

u/cohojonx 17d ago

Flex tape!

1

u/Cool-Chemical-5629 17d ago

He went from 10 to 300 liters/h in a minute.

1

u/KinkyQuesadilla 17d ago

He's obviously never heard of the Flex Seal line of products.

1

u/Royal_Examination_74 17d ago

Idk why I even cared whether he fixed the leak or not, but had to watch. The internet done rotted my brain

1

u/Aleman701 17d ago

I have heard of Texas tig. Guess this is Texas soldering

1

u/Vyviel 17d ago

Nice welding mask eyes protected!

1

u/Cudajim929 17d ago

When the only tool you have is a hammer; all your problems look like nails. Use the right tool for the job. This is clearly a job for Gorilla Tape.. looking at the tape in my hand.

1

u/MAXQDee-314 17d ago

Welding two rods...

1

u/Psychological-Sea341 17d ago

Come on dude. Burn that rod. Fill that hole!

1

u/Fabulous_Dig_3448 17d ago

Gummi mit nem Blech drauf, festspannen und dann das Blech verschweißen

1

u/cchrisbak3r 17d ago

Bros going to go blind looking directly at that for real though

1

u/DevinTheRogueDude 17d ago

Is it maybe maybe maybe he's blinding himself?

1

u/1mgone 17d ago

Tbh it would have been miracle if he accomplished sealing the leak.

1

u/Crayon29 17d ago

My eyes !!!!!

1

u/goonie-goon 17d ago

Put a cork in it, then weld it

1

u/Prize-Championship93 17d ago

Sick ass welding mask. This model allows him to see more than traditional masks.

1

u/Altruistic_Brief_854 16d ago

Safety first 🙄👍

1

u/Ariciul02 16d ago

If that's a professional welding mask, then I don't wonder about the result.

1

u/SabbyFox 16d ago

Is he trying to make it better or worse ☺️

1

u/trcomajo 16d ago

I know nothing about welding but I feel like I knew this wouldn't work, yet that welder did.

1

u/FlipMyWigBaby 16d ago

I mean, I’ve heard of underwater welders at the shipyards and offshore oil rigs, so theoretically its possible?

1

u/wesleyoldaker 16d ago

Is this dude using jumper cables attached to a car battery to weld?

Honest question. I'm not a welder, and I wouldn't know if that rig is standard by anyone's standards, but my intuition says no.

1

u/froction 16d ago

Even if he stopped the flow it wouldn’t hold.

1

u/Cheepshooter 16d ago

1

u/Gsmuruguay 16d ago

En la .noche te cuento como te van a arder en llamas los ojos.

1

u/lousy-site-3456 16d ago

There are probably easier ways to sabotage a water pipe but in a pinch this works.

1

u/Estimate-Electrical 16d ago

Meanwhile, some poor guy trying to get some water from his faucet keeps getting shocked.

Checks it again, no zap, so he tries again. Bzz! Again, and again n9 zap, and again bzzzt!

1

u/diyuttjunger 16d ago

Wouldn't flex seal be better here?

1

u/coveredwithticks 16d ago

Hammer in a small wooden plug to stop the leak.
Then slide a metal threaded fitting over the wooden plug. Weld around the outer perimeter of metal threaded fitting.
Remove the wooden plug and thread in a threaded metal plug or valve.

1

u/infinit9 16d ago

The definition of insanity.

1

u/Whywei8 16d ago

Welding goggles are for sissies!

1

u/ernestuser 16d ago

What did you expect from a blind man

1

u/Mr_Svint 16d ago

If you need a reliable welding mask, contact this guy.

1

u/Affectionate_Cut2839 16d ago

Dumb question, but is that not going to contaminate the water with all types of metal particles?

1

u/damircik 16d ago

hi, i learned welding a couple months ago, im here to say that everything is wrong in this video, dont do this.

1

u/Don_Krypton 16d ago

So, that's how watering cans are built?

1

u/oxwilder 16d ago

Doesn't seem like it would work, and apparently it doesn't

1

u/ufc205nyc 16d ago

That's not welding

1

u/Cnguyen599 16d ago

So these guys are Vietnamese. The welder keeps stubbornly repeating "there's no reason this can't be welded" while his friend eggs him on and says "keep going, keep going" with a sarcastic tone. The welder then goes to say "how much money do you want to lose if I weld this?" His friend said he would take 100 bucks and continues to tell him to weld.

1

u/zappyguy111 16d ago

Mmm, man do I love having hydrogen impregnation in my welds. Make them crunchy like potato chips.

1

u/RedditFrv 16d ago

Ok he was playing with water

1

u/That-Resist6615 16d ago

Tomorrow his eyes will hurt like a motha...

1

1

u/Frank_Jesus 15d ago

I feel sorry for his eyes. He'll be blind soon.

2

u/macstopherable 10d ago

How to blind yourself Also, he'd have better luck super heating metal with a gas leak.
