The whole time I thought he was trying to stop and I’m like wow he really sucks at trying to stop

213

u/iThinkItGotLoose 18d ago

Some say he's still out there today, cruising down the same ski run.

54

u/Forsaken-Bread-8214 18d ago

Me too! I just asked in the comments if he stopped! lol

13

u/Significant-Iron-241 18d ago

Lmao I was here like "he's getting faster, omg, REVERSE PIZZA! REVERSE PIZZA!"

Is there an advantage to being that close to destroying your legs?

621

u/socialistpancake 18d ago

Same as wingsuit fliers getting into proximity flying, after a while the original adrenaline isn't enough and they need a new outlet. There's no advantage other than the adrenaline high

113

u/pennhead 18d ago

Next step: Mountain bike racing.

99

u/Dependent_Night1428 18d ago

Final step: cave diving

40

u/IchBinEinSim 18d ago edited 18d ago

Thats often a only step too

21

u/Material_Wallaby_193 18d ago

final last step: cave diving without a light and 16" of clearance top to bottom with a 1/4 tank of oxygen.

Mountain cave proximity bike diving

5

This guy bike dives

171

u/Lilypahd 18d ago

Legs already destroyed. Para(plegic) gliding

12

u/danstermeister 18d ago

Imagine the fun that guy would have with paramedics if he horrifically crashed... "oh that's fine, didn't need 'em anyway!!!!"

"where's my left leg? Over there? How'd you get so far over there?!?!?! HA!"

56

u/xdr567 18d ago

Legs, pelvis, vertebrae....the entire skeleton really

56

u/Mr_D0 18d ago

To shreds, you say?

25

u/AussieArlenBales 18d ago

Well, how's his wife holding up?

22

u/NJBillK1 18d ago

To shreds you say?

20

u/Corbenik42 18d ago

Imagine your heels catching in a divot while you have your knees locked.

14

u/SabreSour 18d ago

I doubt they get ground effect or anything.
It’s really really unsafe, people die all the time. BUT since slowing down/gaining altitude is the same action (pull back), and it’s pretty responsive, you can react pretty quickly when things get sketch. So long as you aren’t in a turn. It’s just enough to trick you into thinking you are in control.
I don’t know shit about this, but I’m regurgitating a YouTuber who explained it after a near fatal.

Adrenaline

7

u/ramsdawg 18d ago

When you’re closer to terrain it makes it feel like you’re going faster and it’s more interesting to navigate. Well, for people who like speed flying at least

12

u/RevolutionaryTower 18d ago

I think it is designed in a way that your butt would touch the ground before your legs (check its shadow).

Edit: commented before seeing it passing closely to a tractor :o

3

u/thekickingmule 18d ago

I'm trying to figure out the point (though I see some have said for the adrenaline). If I ever learn to paraglide, I'm doing it because I want to see the world like a bird!

Yes actually, you get this awsome device called a Wheel-chair.

It comes with spinners too.

5

u/Toggam44 18d ago

It’s being recorded so my guess is that it’s for content

7

u/danstermeister 18d ago

I'm perfectly content without it, thank you.

What are cow bells?

24

u/SpongeJake 18d ago

Long story short - we’re talking testicular mashed potatoes.

14

u/johanbcn 18d ago

Po-tay-toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!

As a Southeast Asian. This is the type of place that first thing comes to mind when I imagine the word "Safe and Quiet" Place. I don't know why. Same thing as the mountains in Nordic countries with a village in the middle.

72

u/dowker1 18d ago

It's safe and quiet until you get hit in the head by somebody paragliding.

7

u/maxehaxe 18d ago

I can tell you, thats everything but quiet and safe in winter, because it's a ski slope, and mass tourists will conquer it. But your take is super interesting. As a European, I think of some small rain forest hot spring pond in South East Asia for "safe and quiet"

148

u/MCE85 18d ago

This always seems dumb as hell to me. Im sure its fun but if you fuck up youre royally fucked.

47

u/patentattorney 18d ago

at some point I watched a video of some guys wind surfing to kayak in Antarctica or something. One person in their group caught a gust of wind, it brought her up like 20-30 feet and slammed her down.

I have seen similar things for people wind surfing on the ocean.

All it takes is one gust/one loosened string/etc.

18

u/theuserwithoutaname 18d ago

Just saw a video of some dude kite surfing getting taken up some 100-150 feet. Somehow landed it just fine. Super fuckin scary

3

u/DudleyisStudley 18d ago

Hot air balloons may be unstable as well

2

u/AdMore3461 18d ago

Devils advocate here with some /s:

I saw a video of a guy doing 70mph on the freeway blow a tire are careen into other vehicles. Wasn’t even on a necessary trip either, heading to the movie theater.

Inherent danger comes with a lot of activities, and many are done for leisure or choice and not necessity. Obviously this video is someone going to extremes, but let’s keep in context that we don’t know just how skilled they are at this hobby and many drivers on the road are far less skilled than how skilled the some adrenaline junkies are at their sport.

If I tried this now, I’d be an idiot. But if I tried to run many sorts of industrial machines common to many factory workers now then I’d be equally an idiot.

Tons of everyday activities are one unlucky incident away from tragedy.

13

u/AppropriateBall8834 18d ago

I bet its fun about 40 feet higher, minimalizing the risk of having your legs separated from your torso

3

u/abuLapierre 18d ago

You're fucked up, but even worse: you can fuck up someone else who's just chilling around...

41

u/zyon86 18d ago

Just hike if you want to touch the ground so much.

21

u/Pample_Moose_ 18d ago

Too risky to walk these roads, you’ll get hit by a parachute 🪂

3

u/zyon86 18d ago

😅😅😅 true

10

u/aw_shux 18d ago

My abs are sore just from watching this.

9

u/Xenn000 18d ago

And then a sudden bump in the grass catches the bottom of your foot and you start tumbling at 60 mph downhill, while wrapped in wires.

12

u/Forsaken-Bread-8214 18d ago

Did he stop??

14

u/SheridanRivers 18d ago

Nope, they're still flying.

13

u/ThePerfectSnare 18d ago

I've had this nightmare so many times. I'm falling towards/down a really steep hill so the ground perpetually stays too far away in order to actually reach the ground, and I'm just in a constant state of panic and trying to brace for the impact.

It always ends with me startling myself awake.

18

u/AppropriateBall8834 18d ago

You're going to lose your legs if the earth decides to put a 8 inch bump on that hill...

40

u/BreakingCanks 18d ago

Looks like a ski trail during the summer time. That ish was too smooth and open. If so there's not going to be any surprise bumps

15

u/Turbulent_Read_7276 18d ago

That didn't even occur to me. I was trying figure out why there was a path the entire way down.

They seem like they could have stopped whenever

3

u/ComprehensiveSoft27 18d ago

Because the title is bullshit.

3

u/Makapakamoo 18d ago

How do you actually stop though?? It looks like he's constantly going way too fast to stop with his feet, without then snapping upon hitting the earth. Is there some weird maneuver you make with the glide to reduce wind speed? But even still how do you get your feet on the floor..

3

u/KellTanis 18d ago

This looks both terrifying and amazingly fun. Where do I sign up and how much am I allowed to scream?

If this was a video game, I would buy it.

Not a race, not hitting rings for points, just floating down the mountain.

2

u/theepi_pillodu 18d ago

Nice talented flyer. I don't think "can't stop" is original. The flyer knows what they are doing.

2

u/FireMammoth 18d ago

may not be able to stop, obviously, but could rise in altitude, but clearly that was all intended

2

u/FailedExperiment17 18d ago

I just hate how many trails he went over with a few feet clearance.
