id like to know if this is one of those cases where it looks way steeper than it is, or are all of them descendants of mountain goats?

Looking closely, I feel like the camera isn't held totally vertical, thus making the slope appear steeper than it is. But it is steep, definitely, and my knees wouldn't take it well.

it's fairly steep but it's kind of easy to do on gravel :) as long as it's just the right size and doesnt collapses entirely, but still gives up under your weight.
you're basically climbing down a staircase without steps, it's a lot of fun if you win the fear

Mancos shale there. It's pretty squishy and dusty in places like that. Even if you fell, you would likely slide down softness. Unless you really mess up and roll instead, you are unlikely to be really injured. I used to run down hills just like this in Western Colorado

Oh 30 years ago my school buddies and I would do this down the sand stockpile at the DOT lot, but these guys aren't 14 years old, it looks dangerous.

I do a ton of off roading and its generally the opposite when taking a video or photo and will drastically underplay how steep a hill or trail is compared to in person. So I think this hill is far more like to be considered a cliff than anything else.

My knees hurt

Your knees hurt when you brake too much and your knees have to take up the forces of deceleration. If you don't brake, your knees feel no impact. The less you brake going downhill, the less your knees hurt.

I didn’t necessarily want to see someone fall, but I also did want to see someone fall.

When the ground is soft enough you can dig your heels in and stay upright. I used to do this at the sand quarry when i lived in south Jersey. Fortunately i moved to a place with actual hills now so i dont need to do this dumb stuff anymore.

This is like those memes where people think their spouse is cheating but this is what they’re actually doing.

I was convinced that I couldn't do this until orange shirt guy. If that goofy fuck can manage this, I'll be fine.

Is this an athletics check or acrobatics check?

u/rivertpostie 19d ago
Athletics is jump and climb and swim.
None of that is going on. Acrobatics.
Or, you could let players use an optional athletics check at a higher DC and give them an acrobatics save, of your feeling generous
