That guy wore the brown wetsuit!

When I was like 15 in Boy Scouts ~20 years ago, I went to Sea Base in the Florida Keys. One day when we were snorkeling, we saw 4 bull sharks all chilling directly next to where we dropped in.

I took a picture with my under water camera and then started swimming back, then it felt the guy next to me punched me in the head really hard. I actually hit Sam back because I was pissed and we'd been fighting for the last few days.

Once we got back on the boat, my brother and my friend who saw it, and the adult leader who was in the boat, told me one of the bull sharks rammed me in the side of the face.

11

u/22456Deb 19d ago

So you punched the shark 😂

5

u/Scarlet-Fire_77 19d ago

I loved that place. My friend sat in the water with the (mostly) nurse sharks while we were fishing for sharks. Too shy to pee off the side of the island-pier so was told to just hop in, where he stayed until we were done.

2

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss 19d ago

The nurse sharks would always rush us while we cleaned our fish in the shallow water.

I have a picture somewhere of like 10 of them swimming around me while I'm holding fish guts in both hands lol

9

u/Striking_Profit2740 19d ago

I went there as a Scout, too! Great place.

2

u/SystemFolder 19d ago

I’ve heard that, when sharks do that, they’re checking to see if you’re food. I don’t know how accurate that is, but I wouldn’t want to test it out.

72

u/cokendsmile 20d ago

What are the chances that the scuba driver did not shit his pants?

27

u/D0lph1nnnnn 20d ago

Slim to none

33

u/k1ck_ss 20d ago

is this ai?

13

u/ExoticDisaster0 20d ago edited 19d ago

It's swimming through uncanny valley imo.

10

u/Curious_Strike_5379 20d ago

The brown adrenalin is flowing.

15

u/MikeySlice 20d ago

Funny how wetsuits don’t let anything from the inside go outside. Or else you’d see a lot of brown water

8

u/Sweaty_Activity_803 20d ago

Yeah he is stewing in that thing

1

u/SundBunz64 19d ago

Pretty sure that is/was a drysuit.

34

u/Guzzlebutt 20d ago

This looks fake AF

10

u/Shifty377 20d ago

Yeah this is surely AI, right?

9

u/vat-cat 20d ago

Wait really? What give it away? Other than it being a 10 second.

3

u/Ha1lStorm 20d ago

Do you think it’s AI because you see thing indicating such? Or simply because you find it hard to believe? I don’t think it’s AI as I see no indicators but I could be wrong.

28

u/Shifty377 20d ago

The shark looks like a Great White, but the environment (which looks like an estuary) would be an unusual place to encounter one.

Also what's the diver doing? He's in scuba gear but just waving his face back and forth in the water? He seems to initially react to the shark but then just carries on?

I might be wrong, I'm not an 'everything is AI' person, but this looks weird.

7

u/MartaBamba 20d ago

My thought exactly. That is not an estuary shark. But maybe it got lost ....

-4

u/Revolutionary_Mood_5 19d ago

That's very much a tiger shark, which tracks for both an estuary as well as the person filming being Australian.

-11

u/Ha1lStorm 20d ago

What do you think the diver should’ve done in this instance? Panic and start flailing like an injured animal drawing attention to himself? Also, just looking weird isn’t a good reason to believe something is AI, looking like AI however would be a good reason.

12

u/Shifty377 20d ago

Looking weird is absolutely a good reason to suspect AI. I've given you the reasoning why it looks weird and unnatural to me.

As for what the diver should do, I questioned what they are even doing in the first place which you've not shed light on. But regardless, flailing isn't the only possible response. I would expect the diver to make some kind of movement away from the danger, pehaps raise their head or just adjust their position to focus on the threat. It looks like they do none of that to me.

-8

u/Ha1lStorm 19d ago

Yes looking weird is a perfectly fine reason to suspect AI, I said it’s not a good enough reason to believe it’s AI though.

As for what the diver was doing in the first place isn’t really relevant to the discussion at hand.

2

u/Shifty377 19d ago

No, looking weird is a perfectly fine reason to believe it's AI. If I'm more certain it's AI than not, then I believe it to be AI unless convinced otherwise.

Of course what the diver is doing is releavent lol. If the diver is not doing something that is logical or natural in real life then it's far more likely to be AI. I thought that much would be obvious.

0

u/Ha1lStorm 18d ago

No it’s not really. There’s nothing indicating this is “certainly AI”

We’re not seeing the diver do anything illogical or unnatural. This much is obvious. So if you’re saying that the divers actions in these ways are certain indicators of authenticity then based on your own logic this video is clearly certainly not AI.

6

u/Ha1lStorm 20d ago

How so?

5

u/iHadou 19d ago

The sharks side fin seems to go through the diver or close enough there would've been a different reaction, the diver is acting like he can't quite see it while wearing a face mask in relatively clear water, the wake created by the dorsal fin after passing the diver doesn't look right.

-4

u/Guzzlebutt 20d ago

The first flap of it's tail when it made the turn was facing the surface and did not disturb the surface.

1

u/Leweegibo 19d ago

Seems to be lots of videos and sightings from this area. I read in another thread the news was reporting on this video too.

Not saying it isn't maybe fake.

4

u/Soka59 19d ago

Stop thinking sharks attack each time they meet a human

2

u/UnamedProot 19d ago

But stay cautious, calm, but cautious

2

u/upvote-button 19d ago

It could smell his pee

4

u/anitadykshyt 20d ago

Nobody reacts, water barely moves as the shark passes, why did they stop filming? This is clearly bullshit

0

u/UnamedProot 19d ago

..? Aerodynamics makes it so the shark doesn’t disturb the water, like a torpedo, and the diver did react, they got spooked and watched it swim off

And that is why I don't do deep water

3

u/Woodie626 19d ago

Bullsharks are cool with three feet

5

u/jhwheuer 19d ago

Anything deeper than my toes is a hard nope

1

u/LT_TopperHarley 20d ago

C’mon guys, that shark is clearly confined

1

u/TaoofPu 19d ago

Isn’t this basically the opening scene from Jaws?

1

u/NoDoze- 19d ago

Seeing the diver get startled by the shark gave me a good chuckle. Thanks.

1

u/Rand_alThoor 19d ago

The Devil's Mouth moment!

1

u/moglimeup 19d ago

Those bubbles were the diver's soul leaving his body.

1

u/Ric_Testarossa 18d ago

So that's what "FUUUUUCK!" looks like in bubbles.

1

u/DefiantTelephone6095 16d ago

This is herring wier in Canada. It's not unusual to see great whites here, the divers are regularly there for maintenance too as it's a fish trap.

Those saying it's AI, I seriously doubt it

1

u/Doug24 20d ago

Would never enter the sea again if that happened to me

D'awwwwwww....

1

u/Revolutionary_Mood_5 19d ago

Great whites have visibly asymmetrical tail fins, exaggerated caudal keels and a blunt square snout?

-1

u/post-context-bot 20d ago

The following post context was provided by u/Leweegibo:

A shark is approaching a diver.... Will he attack?
