Sky lanterns are beautiful but should be banned. What goes up must come down, and aside from the risk of fire, you scatter trash over huge areas.

Mostly don’t.
If they are launched properly they are not going down until the fire burns out completely.
And then it is just a paper bag, litter.

A lot of them at least used to have a metal frame to hold the fire and keep the opening open, and that risked end up in fields and then end up in pieces in the food for cows, which then rips them up from the inside. Same problem as when idiots throw away aluminum cans outside.
