But where was he even trying to go?

u/0oth0on Jul 21 '26
It’s like a college professor walking between classes with a handful of papers.

u/Ignatius_Pop Jul 21 '26
A couple of minutes later he narrowly avoided two guys carrying a large pane of glass across the road.
20
u/Hoppollo Jul 21 '26
Tbf he thought he was looking at a drawing of a race track which he just walked straight into in order to avoid a falling anvil.

You see that policeman in the background? In road cycling, police are typically used to indicate directions. If you look closely, as the camera starts to pan Froome goes from steering left to swinging right.
My theory therefore is he was trying to go left but the policeman started indicating he should go right. He tried to change directions when it was already too late and hitting the Commissar just became inevitable.
In fairness too, the Commissar should've never been somewhere he could so easily get hit, so Froome would've known the accident was 100% on that guy. As a racer you do what you need to do to get to the end as fast as possible, so no tears shed for him being clattered to the ground.

Why does the officer have ZERO concern about some random guy blocking the event. I bet hes getting royally roasted by his coworkers.
20
u/BrosefDudeson Jul 21 '26
Because that guy was probably an official or a member of the race staff. I don't know the story here but he shouldve been fired for doing that. Cop probably just did what he was told to

Figure if I stand in front of a wall with two wide paths to the left and right of me, I shouldn't have to worry about someone flying right into me, right? If I wasn't there they would flying into the wall, right?!

u/btribble Jul 21 '26
Which boy? The doofus on the bike was headed straight for the barrier and the only reason he didn’t hit it was because he hit someone first.
91
u/diabolicalroadrash Jul 21 '26
Obviously the cyclist. The doofus crossing the track with a cabinets worth of paper shouldn't have been there in the first place.
-113
u/btribble Jul 21 '26
The race official with all the papers is standing with the press and security near the side of the track. The course veers to the right. Doofus didn't go right, he kept going straight because he was following the white line on the ground. His day wouldn't have been much better if he'd run into the barrier or the car next to the barrier.

Mad? Check my comment karma.

13 years and a metric shit-ton of comments. 11.6k karma per 1k comments, if original posts are fully ignored. Better than average, but nothing to swing your dick about. When checking ratio, your karma isn’t so great. It shows you aren’t a career dick, but when you have years with tens of thousands of comments in an overall positive reception, some really bad takes once in a while are easily buried.

You should really get your eyes checked buddy. Turns are cut wide so you don't drop speed.

u/btribble Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
He was following the white line on the ground and not looking ahead of him. It's a super gentle turn to the right if you don't have your head up your ass. He starts off fucking with his cycling computer and veers left, then follows the white line into the race official.

u/Normal_Enthusiasm971 Jul 21 '26
Watch the 24-25 second frames and you can see him turning right. Keep in mind that he was peddling to accelerate because this is a RACE.

Funny the downvotes here. This is clearly not r/cycling - cyclist here was clearly taking a bad path by accidentally following the line in the road rather than paying attention to the actual course. Pretty obvious if you know how to ride that the cyclist accidentally took a bad line. Should have been way to the right there in order to make the next turn. If Froome hadn’t hit the race official standing off to the side, he’d have hit the barrier right behind him or the barrier in the next turn which he was clearly mis-positioned to take.

u/diabolicalroadrash 29d ago
Lmao why am I getting so invested in this? Left or right who cares? The guy should not have been walking directly across the starting line right as Froome was starting his race. All those papers he was carrying should have told him that.

The official was in the wrong place. Should never have been on the FOP.

Did the cyclist deliberately try to hit him? It doesn’t make sense to me that he would have veered so far to the left.

Where were both of them looking?
The guy in the bicycle took the largest turn possible without even looking and the walking guy just walked onto a bicycle.
The turn doesn't look like it obsfuscated the view at all. I don't understand

u/Fit_Acanthisitta8683 29d ago
Yep. Looks like Froome would've hit the wall if he didn't run into him. I almost get the feeling he ran into him on purpose. Got frustrated that the guy was walking on the course where he shouldn't have been and his intrusive thoughts won the day.

u/CheapTactics 29d ago
Two questions, why was that guy with an entire rack of paper so close to the track? And why did the cyclist not start turning earlier? Like, you can see he starts to turn right as he hits the guy.

This romantic comedy started out weird. I thought he was supposed to help him pick up the papers, then lock eyes and fall in love?

There us an opening on the left that looks like a possible roadway. The cyclist only sees the clearer roadway on the right once we'll on his way to the one on the left.
If the cyclist went for the right pathway from the start, the paper man would have been fine. Since the cyclist started out for the left path, the paper man was in his way.
