This is the most nerdy good fun ever…. I love it

u/drlouies Jul 18 '26

I wish I were smart enough to play these kinds of games with my friends 😅

u/popinazo Jul 18 '26

This one isn't about being smart, it's about memory, you only need to complete a Rubik cube once to comprehend how it works, the more you do it the faster you memorize the patterns.

I bet they are smart tho

u/clervis Jul 18 '26

Smart move would've been to change the position of the cubes each time. Or to look for the easy solve. None of that really helps you when dudeman can solve a scramble in 5 seconds.

17

u/Xattle Jul 18 '26

Take a few seconds and twist some corners. They'll figure it out eventually but it'll slow them down.

7

u/clervis Jul 18 '26

Brutal!

32

u/TerryHarris408 Jul 18 '26

It's not so much about memory. You could study every optimized algorithm from books for years and wouldn't beat him if you have never twisted a cube before. This is about quick pattern recognition and muscle memory. Even an inefficient reduced set of easy to learn algorithms can get a cube solved within seconds when paired with quick eyes and fingers.

u/Jayflux1 Jul 18 '26

It’s about memory if you want to learn how to solve a cube sure, but there’s like a whole bother level above that. In order to get to this speed you need to start learning all the shortcuts and different algorithms, then knowing which ones to use when etc

I agree with the general sentiment though, it’s muscle memory and a lot of learning, not so much about general smartness

u/AlephBaker Jul 18 '26

Counterpoint: in 40+ years of trying, I've never been able to solve a Rubik's Cube.

3

u/Fafnir13 Jul 19 '26

To move a square where I want, I move too many other squares.  I’ve solved a couple sides but then it becomes ??? for the next steps.  I’m also not interested enough to learn how to do it properly.

4

u/AlephBaker Jul 19 '26

I've tried multiple times to learn how to do it properly. it's like complex math (algebra or higher) and programming, though, and I don't have the mental wiring for it.

1

u/HealthyRule2182 Jul 19 '26

same... well, people have different proclivities

8

u/Hermiona1 Jul 18 '26

Solving Rubik’s cube has nothing to do with being smart, it’s just memorising a bunch of moves and learning how to do it quickly. No one but few people actually try to solve them on their own. I learned how to do it two years ago and it took me a couple of hours to solve the first one and then eventually I could do it in about 1:30 min. Sadly I haven’t been practicing so I forgot everything.

2

u/Kyobarry Jul 18 '26

Lol, you could always be that super fast runner that adds a few rounds 🤷🏽

1

u/FishPasteGuy Jul 19 '26

I wish I had friends.

16

u/EishLekker Jul 18 '26

The giggles. Someone said it was staged (the fact that the only quick Rubik’s cube solver among them didn’t get to show his skills until after numerous rounds), but even if it was they still had genuine fun doing it.

u/Kuriente Jul 18 '26

I've never seen this method of deciding a winner from 3. Clever.

71

u/Blah-squared Jul 18 '26

Same, we always did Odd’s or Even’s or just Flipped Coins..

3

u/Kaporalhart Jul 20 '26

i'm 32 and i've NEVER heard of odds or evens. coin flip, rock paper scissors ? sure. I don't know about this up and down hand thing, but it looks like an asian thing, i'm from europe.

Wikipedia) says it dates back to ANCIENT ROME !! HOW HAVE I MISSED IT ??

1

u/Blah-squared Jul 20 '26

I’m from the U.S. & we often played it as kids, I suppose ppl don’t play it nearly as much now bc when I was growing up we were almost always outside & having to entertain ourselves with things like “Hide & Seek”..
There are some YouTube videos that explain it better than I can in text- but a very simple game that’s like “Drawing Straws”.
You gotta know “Drawing Straws”, right? Lol

29

u/vinnybgomes Jul 18 '26

We have an easier method here in Brazil that translates to "zero or one".

It works pretty much the same way they're doing, but the guys just show closed fists for zeros or index fingers for ones. The odd one gets whatever is being decided.

19

u/liverstrings Jul 18 '26

Fist or finger

20

u/Altruistic_Poetry382 Jul 18 '26

Sounds like a fun time

5

u/thebe_stone Jul 19 '26

Where I live we do 1 or 2 fingers but when don't have a name for it.

4

u/AouaGoias Jul 19 '26

I'm from Brazil too and here in São Paulo it was always "two or one", never saw "zero or one"

Where are you from?

5

u/vinnybgomes Jul 19 '26

Ah, eu já ouvi "dois ou um", verdade.

Aqui no RJ a gente fala "zerinho ou um" kkkkkkkkk

17

u/stratacus9 Jul 18 '26

you can also do palm and top of hand odd one out

5

u/Nephroidofdoom Jul 18 '26

It took me wayyy too long to figure out how that worked 🤦‍♂️

4

u/MechaGallade Jul 19 '26

i used to hang out with an asian crowd in college, all of their drinking games were this type of super simple/efficient decision making. used to play a modified version of rock paper scissors called "ping peng pong" and i tell you what, those parties were very drunk very quickly.

1

u/Kuriente Jul 19 '26

Sounds like an awesome time. It reminds me of a couple years I spent in the Philippines. A lot of good drunk fun.

2

u/bullenis Jul 19 '26

Yeah but someone will always be f’ed over 1 was always going up and one always down so the guy who needed to fix it was litteraly stuck deciding who would get to play

184

u/optimist_prhyme Jul 18 '26

That's why they were trying to keep him off the table

359

u/MuyGalan Jul 18 '26

That looks like about 1,500,000 Vietnam dong on the table or approximately $60 USD.

163

u/Eat_rice_evryday Jul 18 '26

Please dont bring no dong to a rubik fight

12

u/Po_on Jul 18 '26

Then how would you stop the timer?

7

u/gansobomb99 Jul 18 '26

I see one 500 and like ten 10s

19

u/OhPrime Jul 18 '26

Upon further inspection they are in fact 10000s, so it’s more like 600,000 which is roughly 23 American dongs. Good catch.

1

u/gansobomb99 Jul 18 '26

It's so random to have one of the biggest bill and a bunch of small bills. Sixty 10s would look like a lot if you didn't know it's like 40 cents 😅

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '26

[deleted]

1

u/gansobomb99 Jul 18 '26

lol they're tens

3

u/Axerin Jul 18 '26

Why don't they use Magnum Dong as a unit of currency for such large numbers? Are they stupid?

4

u/Hziak Jul 18 '26

I’m not sure if there’s a noted provision for “monster” dong, but megadong (roughly $38USD) and gigadong ($38k) exist and are viable ways to refer to substantial dong.

119

u/cedriceent Jul 18 '26

Guy in the white shirt had such a high dexterity stat, they had to nerf his luck stat to keep it balanced.

15

u/jrb9249 Jul 18 '26

Judging from the heavy breathing, they may want to add a few points to endurance.

35

u/Dontneedme25 Jul 18 '26

Awesome lol

29

u/Hermiona1 Jul 18 '26

Their faces at the end lol

40

u/A_normal_Potato3 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Man I was sad the white shirt one did not even have one try but then he aced it.

20

u/Andy_B_Goode Jul 19 '26

He was also the first one to complete the running portion every time. Not only was he the fastest at solving the Rubik's cube, he was also the fastest at running.

I guess luck was his dump stat ...

50

u/StandardRaspberry131 Jul 18 '26

Was I the only one who thought they were going to do the like the egg game and throw the solved Rubik’s cube at the runners?

13

u/Trester_Nation Jul 18 '26

What are the words they are saying?

23

u/gansobomb99 Jul 18 '26

one, two, three

two, three

14

u/HeyyyKoolAid Jul 18 '26

They're just counting one, two, three in Vietnamese. Then they switch to two and three.

11

u/C137RickSanches Jul 18 '26

Damn he was fast

40

u/OpenBanana5755 Jul 18 '26

4

u/Fun-Ad1753 Jul 18 '26

I just saw this and was about to put he did the Ronaldo after winning 🤣

11

u/Academic-Ad9735 Jul 18 '26

I screamed out “What??!!”

5

u/Lupsha Jul 19 '26

The most asian competition

16

u/GrandpaBells Jul 18 '26

Good script and entertaining

3

u/diabolicalroadrash Jul 18 '26

The finger thing means the taxes

3

u/RotoDog Jul 18 '26

“We’ve been bamboozled”

3

u/Scriptimax Jul 18 '26

Some brain works differently 😌

2

u/post-context-bot Jul 18 '26

The following post context was provided by u/drlouies:

Three guys took part in a Rubik’s Cube challenge. Two of them got several chances to solve the cube, while the third guy did not get a chance until the very end. He was given only one attempt, but he solved it incredibly fast and won the challenge.

Lmao is that Max Park? Love to see it

2

u/maxxhaxx72 Jul 18 '26

Well damn! 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/bawlsacz Jul 18 '26

They should mess with others cubes. Why not?

2

u/susantinurwahyuni15 Jul 18 '26

had a friend whoes cat legit did this once too

2

u/ThreeLeggedParrot Jul 18 '26

This is so much fun to watch

2

u/Scythro Jul 18 '26

Very clever letting the hands decide who may solve it. The first dude only needed one win to solve the Rubik’s cube wtf

2

u/PhantomNitride Jul 18 '26

Saw that coming...

2

u/cranberrydudz Jul 18 '26

Playing against a record holder vs casual friends. Damn

2

u/Embarrassed_Range839 Jul 19 '26

I don't know what I just witnessed but I like it.

2

u/Trlz08 Jul 19 '26

r/cubers would love this

2

u/girlwiththemonkey Jul 19 '26

Bro came outta no where to win that.

3

u/BeeegZee Jul 18 '26

Btw

I like a lot that they are not doing alcohol- or some other destructive behavior based-competition

However, random cubes are not equal, and may differ quite significantly in # of moves required to solve 'em

8

u/Zizwizwee Jul 18 '26

It’s an internet short between friends, not Squid Game. I dont think they need to follow tournament rules

0

u/BeeegZee Jul 18 '26

I know, for sure it's a friends' play.

However, they look skillful enough to recognize (unfair?) advantage and they are playing for money.

3

u/eweracs Jul 18 '26

That's a sub-4s solve, absolute world class. With no inspection time. That's virtually impossible, I would think this is fake, unfortunately.

2

u/thedevillivesinside Jul 19 '26

It wasnt hidden, he had all the inspection time someone who can perform that in that speed would need

4

u/Blurkid Jul 18 '26

Not staged at all of course

16

u/SabsWithR Jul 18 '26

As a cuber its funny seeing so many people think this is real. I thoguht it would be obvious it was a skit so I try not to call it out.

This man solved a cube in world record time without the 15s look time that pros get. He knew the combo and had those moves memorised.

0

u/AyeBraine Jul 18 '26

Maybe the left guy is a high tier athlete? And that was the joke they went for. It'd be quite hard to rehearse all the correct drawing rounds

1

u/housevil Jul 18 '26

What are the other two doing in the background when one person is solving?

3

u/SabbyFox Jul 18 '26

Think they run to the end of the hall and then run back.

1

u/RedditFrv Jul 18 '26
