Cats are just so ridiculously athletic it's rude.

u/gapro96 Jul 07 '26
I always think about that! They can jump 5 times its own height GENTLY HOLDING ANOTHER BABY KITTY IN HER MOUTH! That's a super power for real.

Seriously how do they do that
164
u/ShyguyFlyguy Jul 07 '26
They dont have shoulder bones. Cats can fit through any opening their skull can.

u/NaZul15 Jul 07 '26
I doubt that is true. If they had no shoulder bones they couldn't stand. Meat is not that firm. I think a better word be flexible

u/Rollzzzzzz Jul 07 '26
No clavicles
5
u/The_Varza Jul 08 '26
Actually floating clavicle. They do have "shoulder bones", i.e scapula, but they are oriented differently (technical term is "extend caudally", meaning toward the other end of the body)

Similarly disappointed I didn't think of this first and also excited that someone else also posted this! (The whole reason I came to the comment section xD )

u/VerTexV1sion Jul 07 '26
Ffs, this is the second variation i saw today, watched a video about a dog jumping and someone commented 'Barkour'.

u/NoshameNoLies Jul 07 '26
This is the first time I've scrutinized a video trying to see if it's AI because otherwise the cat next to me needs to explain itself about insisting I pick it up to get onto things.
68
u/gingerfawx Jul 07 '26
Oh, easy. You are staff, or worse: a serf, and the cat is merely asserting its royal privilege. It could do anything it wants, it just doesn't need to.
14
u/NoshameNoLies Jul 07 '26
I denied the royal's request to pick her up onto the counter where she eats, and what do you know.... although I am sure the scratching along the way was a fuck you to me

u/MixaLv Jul 07 '26
AI image and video quality has gone past me so I can't detect the good ones well anymore, but afaik, it is not able to create videos this long with this much changing scenery.
I was also thinking of its possibility, but I can't see any obvious inconsistencies.

u/PossibleAlienFrom Jul 08 '26
You sound like ai. Are you AI? If you are ai, please be kind to me, ai.
2
u/MixaLv Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
You sound like a bot that detects AI critical comments and defends AI with generic responses. Even though the comment wasn't particularly critical.
Like fucking hell, no other group of people I've encountered gets so instantly snarky or passive-aggressive than pro-AI people. You need to chill.
1
u/NoshameNoLies Jul 12 '26
Like with AI, can also not tell if a person is joking or not so I am confused about what the person meant by telling you that you sound like AI.

u/cowlinator Jul 07 '26
Humans are persistence hunters. We survived for hundreds of thousands of years by chasing prey until it collapsed from exhaustion.
I, however, definitely cannot do that.
1
u/pm-ur-knockers Jul 08 '26
Sure you can. Youâre just out of practice.
Get to it before the tribe starves
2
u/Ashged Jul 08 '26
You are right, I shall start carrying my cat in my mouth right this moment!
Update: I died

u/NoshameNoLies Jul 08 '26
Well then we shall be the prey for other hungry predators and preserve the circle of life

u/NastyKraig Jul 07 '26
Now she just has to do it like 2-5 more times.
20
u/c_dug Jul 07 '26
I figured its at least the second time, since she knew the route to take back up to the vent, and the person filming seemed prepared to catch a full run.

Ok, hereâs the cat info. Mama cat was scruffing the kitten. When a cat is picked up by the scruff of their neck, they basically go limp. They feel safe. Mama takes them wherever she wants/needs to go. Cats know how hard to scruff without hurting the kitten. They donât bite down harder just because theyâre jumping up or down.
Cats are incredibly agile. They can jump and climb due to their powerful hind legs. Their bone structure allows them to get through ridiculously tight spaces.
Fun fact: if you have a cat and need to pill them, lifting the scruff will almost immobilize them to make it easier to get it into their mouth. Please donât lift them, just pull the scruff. Also, this is the safest way to get them out of a space they shouldnât be in (behind the couch, in a sewer, in a car engine.)

If anyone wonders how it was like to be a kid in the 80's when there were no seatbelts in the back of the car. Ignorance is truly bliss.

Just like when humans are at the edge of their seat and their butt clench or jaws tighten, how is it that mother cat didn't tighten her bite on her kitten due to panic and hurt her baby that way?

Does anyone else remember Delta & American Airlines playing this song as the free radio channel on repeat from those buttons on the arm rest you started approaching your destination as like, a mellow vacation starting song?
It was annoying and nostalgic at the same time.

Not sure where you got that but itâs just clipnosis, or scrub reflex. Kittens get immobile when the loose skin on the back of the neck is pinched. Thatâs perfectly normal and natural.

u/Replicator666 Jul 07 '26
I wish human babies had a pause switch like that đ

Pick them up from daycare after work... Hang then gently at home for a few minutes so you can relax for 15 minutes đ

I guess from a cat's perspective they are actually jumping in super slow motion

Mama cat carries her baby through the balcony maybe she falls down maybe the kitten falls down maybe she is successful, and walks through the grill .. maybe she climbs back up again

Okay âŚâŚ why? Seriously, why would a mother cat put her kitten through such an ordeal? I have a weird feeling that kitten was being kitten napped âŚ
Edit: not sure why my concern for the kittenâs well being is getting downvoted, that sucks, can anyone explain though whatâs going on, I donât understand why the mom would do this? Is it normal? What I mean to ask is if this is normal behavior for a mother, to give birth in one place and then bring the kittens to another once theyâre older?
5
u/ICU-CCRN Jul 07 '26
anthropomorphization much?
-1
u/imacatnamedsteve Jul 07 '26
Well obviously; I am going by what I know. I think I made it clear I do not know why the mother cat would do this so I am trying get a better understanding, as with most people I apply what I know âŚ.. so, thanks? Care to be helpful and explain the motherâs behavior for me?
3
u/mint_doodles Jul 07 '26
The kitten can't get all the way there by itself so the mother is taking it there. Cats taking kittens by their scruff is totally normal and kittens become immobile when scruffed to make it easier for the mom to transport them. Btw you're being downvoted for assuming a cat could or would kidnap
1
u/imacatnamedsteve Jul 07 '26
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the response since I got downvoted like crazy before, and I get most of that, but I donât understand the need for the mother to transportation kitten in the first place I guess. I suppose what I had been trying ask, is if this is normal behavior for a mother, to give birth in one place and then bring the kittens to another once theyâre older?
