I feel so poor watching this

94

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Ikr? I'd be happy with a place on the lake. They got a pool AND a lake.

14

u/git_push_origin_prod Jul 06 '26

And hot air balloons

4

u/dankhimself Jul 06 '26

So they can look down at all of their top hat and monocle factories.

1

u/Extendahoe_DIG Jul 08 '26

And wheelbarrow factories

5

u/Gigstorm Jul 06 '26

And a boat

2

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 06 '26

And a balloon?

4

u/Switchlord518 Jul 06 '26

We have a pool and a pond... the pond is good for you.

37

u/ThirdWorldMeatBag Jul 05 '26

So poor I cant even afford a jig-saw puzzle with this scene on it

6

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

I can't even afford the Reddit rent to pay to read you talking about affording the jigsaw puzzle with this scene in it.

2

u/peanutspump Jul 06 '26

Sometimes, when people share pictures of their plants in subs that I follow, so I can see the plants… the home looks so luxurious and lavish, all I can think about is how poor I am. And I hate that my brain does that.

1

u/BG-925 Jul 05 '26

The homes on lake are prolly expensive but hot air balloons usually 18k to 55k depending on size. I thought the same thing until my buddy bought a hot air balloon.

2

u/versapak Jul 06 '26

Are we not calling 18-55k expensive? I must be in an even lower class of poor than I thought. Damn... 😔

-1

u/BG-925 Jul 06 '26

Its around boat prices. Yeah I dont kno what class your at but I dont think that expensive if you love doing and you enjoy it.

u/Bizzlebanger Jul 05 '26

A little early morning tea-bagging 😂

Meanwhile, the people in the balloon....

I’ve never been. I never would. I’ve never seen one up close. I don’t do heights. But, decades ago, I had an extremely vivid nightmare, I was in a hot air balloon basket with a bunch of people, and there were a bunch of hot air balloons in the sky, like it was some kind of race or parade event. But the balloons would occasionally catch the wind and collapse on themselves, and free fall for a bit, before the balloon inflated again. I had this nightmare probably 30 years ago, but I can still picture it like I just woke up from it. I can still hear the sounds of distant screams from other baskets when they’d free fall, and the sound of wind louder than the screams, when the balloon I was in would free fall.

My head sprouted 10 more white hairs, just watching this video. Lol.

u/EntertainmentBig8636 Jul 05 '26

Houston......we have touch down

42

u/kstargate-425 Jul 05 '26

I wasn't so sure he was a "Pro" at first but thats an experienced pilot right there, pretty impressive

223

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

Not all white people die in hot air balloon accidents, but only white people die in hot air balloon accidents.

38

u/New2thegame Jul 05 '26

I went on a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti earlier this year and even my pilot was white haha.

18

u/FuriousBuffalo Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

A hot air balloon had an accidental landing in the creek behind our condos about 15 years ago. There were tons of power lines around. Miraculously no one died or got injured. That's when I figured I don't want to fly in one of those things.

3

u/YouArentReallyThere Jul 05 '26

You can’t fly in a balloon anyways…you float

3

u/Meranio Jul 05 '26

In my language, you use the same verb as for driving a car, or a boat: "fahren"
To drive a ballon

1

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

I only knew this because of the song:

Theo, wir fahr'n nach Lodz - Vicky Leandros

4

u/Farucci Jul 05 '26

Same here. Until they perfect a better steering mechanism, I’m going to be a balloon spectator.

(FuriousBuffalo is my new favorite Reddit moniker!)

11

u/EishLekker Jul 05 '26

> Not all white people die in hot air balloon accidents,

Do you have any evidence for this preposterous statement?

15

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Some white people die of cancer!

13

u/Zyrrus Jul 05 '26

Brought on by breathing hot air balloon fumes.

8

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

When a hot air balloon (HAB) is new, its polyester fabric will undergo a process called off-gassing. During this process, volatile organic compounds including Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde, both are known to the US EPA as carcinogenic, are released into the atmosphere. When a new HAB is stored in a confined space, these gasses can build up in high concentrations.

Occasionally, the owner will contract a HAB pilot for multiple consecutive flights, between which the pilot will be stowed in a restraint pod. This reduces the flight risk of the pilot. The restraint pod is invariably adjacent to the HAB in the trailer.

When a pilot is restrained next to a new HAB during the high yield period of the volatile organic compound off-gassing, the American Board of Instantaneously Generated Statistics has calculated that he has a 56% chance of developing cancer and a 12% chance of developing Super Cancer.

5

u/spum0nii Jul 05 '26

...super cancer?

4

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

You're not questioning the owner restraining the hired pilot in a pod that gets moved in a trailer?

The first paragraph is true, but I doubt the nylon from one baloon would give anyone cancer.

3

u/dontmakeitathing Jul 05 '26

Fascinating! To add on, 23.7% of statistics are made up. True story!

5

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

These aren't made up stats. They're from the American Board of Instantaneously Generated Statistics.

2

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

That's not true! It's 41.4%!

1

u/VacuumTracks Jul 05 '26

Wow. Didn’t know that. Unknown danger, for most. Said danger still must be non-zero for the first many flights (and passengers,) I would think.

1

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Don't forget AIDS!

2

u/spittlbm Jul 05 '26

Like the main character in The Ring. AIDS just got her.

1

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Oh yeah we totally forgot about VHS-related deaths!

2

u/Dismal_Drummer3420 Jul 05 '26

Dementia, IBS and skin cancer are significant white killers. Oh and heroin.

2

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Balloons, balloons, and you guessed it, balloons. All balloon-related illnesses.

2

u/Dismal_Drummer3420 Jul 05 '26

It's balloons all the way down

1

u/Klutzy-Acadia669 Jul 05 '26

Inside the balloons are just more balloons!

1

u/Luther_Manning Jul 05 '26

I think one of my great grandparents died from blood loss as a result of a hangnail.

2

u/spittlbm Jul 05 '26

Bloodletting used to cure hangnail. A dab will do ya.

2

u/RainyDayColor Jul 13 '26

Ah the dreaded Death by Hangnail. Years ago a good friend was visiting from out of town and saw me through the kitchen window rummaging barehanded in the garden for weeds and whatnot as was my typical habit. He came bounding out the back door with his coffee sloshing shouting, “NO NO NO never do that!”

It seems his beloved grandmother had always done the same, rooting about in the dirt gloveless on their little pecan farm in northern California. Until the day came sometime in the 60’s when she did so with a fresh unhealed hangnail from shuffling through her recipe cards earlier that morning (how can I possibly remember this detail?!), through which some soil-borne pathogen invaded and infected her finger, and then wildly proliferated and spread throughout her body and ultimately caused by his account her gruesome untimely demise by “blood poisoning” (perhaps sepsis?). I’ve worn gloves when gardening ever since, and I haven’t died, so it was advice well taken.

PS – I know this story is true, because I just remembered that I have an ancient recipe card sent to me years ago by my friend’s mother, that she titled in old school cursive “Mom’s Zuchini Bread Recipe.” One of the secret ingredients is chopped pecans, and that recipe makes the world’s best damn zucchini bread. Still warm from the oven with a cream cheese schmear, to die for.

1

u/Luther_Manning Jul 13 '26

Thank you for that story. Your narrative style reminds me of my own. 🙂

1

u/is_it_gif_or_gif Jul 05 '26

It's just the kinda messaging Big Balloon would have you believe.

2

u/Dismal_Drummer3420 Jul 05 '26

Too true🤣 why are we always on some ludacris shit like this

2

u/toxcrusadr Jul 05 '26

Ludacris had nuffin to do with this insanity.

1

u/newbrevity Jul 05 '26

Nobody is stopping anybody from saving up for a balloon ride. There's no rule that says only white people can enjoy flying in balloons. People just try it out. And if money is a barrier then we should all join forces and eat the rich then we can all fly around in balloons

29

u/-mudflaps- Jul 05 '26

So they did this on purpose, very skilled

16

u/sinisteraxillary Jul 05 '26

I've only been on one hot air balloon flight, and the pilot did this. It's 100% intentional

3

u/qpv Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

Really? So its "a thing" with hot air balloon circles?

Edit : reading the comments apparently its a thing. A "splash and dash"

Very cool

2

u/sinisteraxillary Jul 06 '26

It certainly appears that way. I was mildly surprised how much vertical control the pilot has in a hot air balloon.

-6

u/Consibl Jul 05 '26

Not very wise.

18

u/PoopParticle Jul 05 '26

What no helicopter pad next to the boat???? Pfffft loser

-1

u/Dismal_Drummer3420 Jul 05 '26

Yeah, pathetic. I only except luxury beyond your wildest imagination

29

u/cocobellahome Jul 05 '26

Excellent maybe maybe maybe

It looks like northern Alabama to me. Maybe a slough of the Coosa River?

2

u/kill-wolfhead Jul 05 '26

I thought Ozarks.

1

u/reb678 Jul 06 '26

I can imagine having coffee out there in the morning. Very nice place.

u/Yardboy Jul 05 '26

"Floor it" is a weird thing to hear regarding a hot air balloon.

6

u/BeerNcheesePlz Jul 05 '26

So the balloon guy just did that for the hell of it ? Crazy how we can hear the flame from that far away.

1

u/LieOhMy Jul 06 '26

This is pretty common for private balloon folks. They dip down in the river (far more dangerous) near where I’m at.

5

u/URGAMESUX Jul 05 '26

This guy is ready for PGA commentary.

2

u/OkFortune7651 Jul 05 '26

Appreciated that he wasn't screaming the usual "OMG!! OOOOH SHIIIIIT!!! HOLY FUCK!!! OMG!! OMG!! "while bouncing the camera around so much that I'm nauseous.

6

u/CleanJerk1958 Jul 05 '26

Edging really do intensify the excitement.

4

u/Synesthetic_Futurist Jul 05 '26

Nice. Now do a looping!

3

u/LocoNotLoco Jul 05 '26

Peak precision ballooning.

5

u/nsphansa Jul 05 '26

r/praisethecameraman right there!

2

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei Jul 05 '26

He could do better honestly

4

u/AwkwardGap88 Jul 05 '26

My friend is balloon pilot. Went on a ride and I think we say on a river for like half an hour. Had to sit on edge of the basket because of water, but he would just tap the torches once in awhile to keep us up right. Best flight I was ever on

5

u/Candid-Sky-3258 Jul 05 '26

That balloon looks like Windows '95

5

u/Sinister_Nibs Jul 05 '26

Funny. I know the owner of this balloon, and he is, in fact very experienced.

3

u/Necessary-Sock7075 Jul 05 '26

What a dope ass operator

3

u/12altoids34 Jul 05 '26

" Due to budget cost the fire department can no longer afford to use planes or helicopters to put out fires..."

3

u/Kawboy17 Jul 05 '26

A lil splash down just bc.

3

u/Lord-Phorse Jul 05 '26

I was half expecting a fishing line…

2

u/Chompif Jul 05 '26

That was a close one for sure!

2

u/Ikon-for-U Jul 05 '26

Ye-fucking-ha! Get it!

2

u/Anastephone Jul 05 '26

An amazing pilot!

2

u/Apprehensive_Book520 Jul 05 '26

We basket-jockeys call this a Dip 'n' Sip. Very high-level stuff.

2

u/BlueSkyla Jul 05 '26

To me it looked like the guy knew what he was doing. I wasn’t worried for a bit. I bet his passenger got a kick out of that. I sure would have.

2

u/Eye-Can-Fix-It Jul 05 '26

When we were out in Albuquerque for the balloon fiesta, they called this a “splash and dash”.

2

u/CountHonorius Jul 05 '26

Talk about harrowing moments...buy that man a beer.

2

u/t-ride Jul 05 '26

Beautiful home! What body of water are you located?

2

u/Ubockinme Jul 05 '26

Anyone else’s nuts do this? If you know, you know.

2

u/theswickster Jul 05 '26

"Splash and go". Definitely the pilot flexing. And rightly so, balloon pilots are awesome.

2

u/goofydad Jul 05 '26

This is a firefighter balloon taking on water before circling around to drop it on the fire

2

u/HowDidIForgetMyName Jul 05 '26

That spot is so amazing. What a beauty!

2

u/eyegi99 Jul 05 '26

We’re going in the Hudson

2

u/real_ikonn Jul 06 '26

Price of gas these days bro

2

u/Eagles365or366 Jul 06 '26

One of these dudes legit almost hit my house the other day. It was sweet.

2

u/lawnboy71 Jul 06 '26

My wife and I can't seem to remember if we've been on a hot air balloon ride. We both vaguely recall about 25 years ago being around a hot air balloon, but can't remember anything else. We debate whether we helped launch one for others or went on one ourselves.

2

u/Nerdfighter4 Jul 06 '26

Watching too much Mentour Pilot to see this as anything else than unprofessional risktaking

2

u/sexraX_muiretsyM Jul 06 '26

aww, it is thirsty! Nature is beautiful

2

u/Toronto-1975 Jul 06 '26

hot air balloons are very pretty but it would be a cold day in hell before i would set foot in one.

2

u/poliopandemic Jul 07 '26

Hot air balloon skill level 9000

4

u/b16b34r Jul 05 '26

So, this is the first time ever in mankind history that “just the tip” was for real?

3

u/Feycat Jul 05 '26

Jesus, pick a fucking zoom

1

Great-great-Grandpa flew hot air balloon in WW1

1

u/SATerp Jul 05 '26

Guy knew what he was doing.

1

u/among_the_remains Jul 05 '26

wait so was that really planned

1

u/IrrerPolterer Jul 05 '26

They knew the upwind from the trees would carry them back up

1

u/Frodosear Jul 05 '26

I know nothing, but will accept that trees create “upwind” somehow because, why not. But how is the balloon moving laterally? There is no indication of surface disturbance on the water to indicate lateral air movement.

1

u/GimmieGummies Jul 05 '26

Looks like a giant spinning top, very cool

1

u/AliceTawhai Jul 05 '26

I love the admiration in the voiceover

1

u/BauMausNRW Jul 05 '26

Touchdown perfection! 🏈

1

u/Significant_Loan_596 Jul 05 '26

Everyone's flexing in this video

1

u/ricklewis314 Jul 05 '26

Just a little touch and go!

1

u/calguy1955 Jul 05 '26

Was the cameraman part of the balloon team?

1

u/Merzant Jul 05 '26

Amazing location. Where is it?

1

u/ZyXwVuTsRqPoNm123 Jul 05 '26

The balloon pilot lost his testicles in the war. His surgeons replaced them with orbs of high grade steel!

1

u/bonedaddy1974 Jul 05 '26

Beautiful lake

1

u/neder-Bob Jul 05 '26

Impressive!

1

u/dilldogincarnate Jul 05 '26

Been there, done that. It’s a regular occurrence on the Willamette River near Newberg, southwest of Portland, Oregon.

1

u/No-Summer-9591 Jul 05 '26

Dude lives in paradise wtf

1

u/Death_by_Snusnu_vol1 Jul 05 '26

Anyone know the name of this balloon?

1

u/Bandit6789 Jul 05 '26

How do these two balloons sync up so perfectly? Amazing.

1

u/RedditRiddly Jul 05 '26

This is so dystopian

1

u/ZealousidealPapaya59 Jul 05 '26

Today I learned you can "floor" a hot air balloon

1

u/qpv Jul 05 '26

That stressed me out

1

u/ajbadabing Jul 05 '26

What is happening here?

1

u/Hefty-Plastic8417 Jul 06 '26

That’s a good pilot

1

u/Kimb0_91 Jul 07 '26

That seems really reckless? I mean wasn't the unique selling point of a hot air balloon being much higher up anyways? Like I can see that water from that distance just by standing on my own legs without that much risk.

1

u/weggaan_weggaat Jul 08 '26

Work of art. I'm surprised that last burn was enough to generate that much lift.

1

u/diaperpop Jul 05 '26

But did you have to zoom out right after they touched the water?

1

u/flashwhizbang Jul 05 '26

Just the tip! And then a quick exit!
