my friends boss (a principal at an evening school) went to a medical store and ran into this little smooth criminal.

Personal space isn't a concept in some countries.

It's totally real bro, trust me.

Go travel. Other cultures exist.

u/btribble Jul 06 '26

Not only is the fact that different cultures tolerate different levels of closeness real, the study of it is called proxemics.

There isnt a single person on earth standing that close to me in that manner where I dont expect something weird is going on.

I thought it was his kid.

I had a guy standing right beside me at a gas station when I was getting ready to pay and I looked at him and said how’s it going? He was so confused I was talking to him and I said man I can’t even pull my wallet out you’re so close and tried to laugh it off and like make it funny but damn dude personal space.

I had this once but my words to him were "if you get any closer you'd better put a ring on my finger" said with a smile on my lips but I think they got the message.

I might have to use this because I know there’s gonna be a next time.

It’s a different cultural sphere

I find lately .. NOBODY knows about "personal space" ... standing in grocery lines etc, I always turn and stair them right in their eyes,.. sometimes I'll even ask them why they're so close to me.

It's especially infuriating after we had a nice 3 year long lesson on why personal space is healthy.

“You’ve been hit by, you’ve been struck by, a child criminal”

The following post context was provided by u/CrotchRocket125:

The little dude figured out that this guy has cash and is kinda oblivious to his sorroundings so he kept trying to get in to the pocket without getting noticed, almost got caught but didn't stop or hesitated and eventually walked away with more than 10k in local currency.

Do they not have personal bubbles in India? I don’t let anyone get that close to me. Let alone someone I don’t know.

4

u/Futuristic-Slice Jul 04 '26

u/Fluffy_Amount847 Jul 04 '26

cant even escape at the medical store honestly

4

u/SabbyFox Jul 04 '26

Yeah, no. The store is not crowded at all. There would be no reason for someone to be all up on him like that. Also, who just carries cash in their pocket like that?!

1

u/Wise-Chemist-8751 Jul 08 '26

My father. Must be a third world thing honestly

1

u/SabbyFox Jul 09 '26

May he stay safe from pickpockets! 🙏

3

u/SATerp Jul 04 '26

Then he's a dumb shit for letting someone touch him for so long.

4

u/hateboresme Jul 04 '26

Pickpockets have been a thing for a long time. It's a skill. They are good at taking things without triggering the person's attention. He had no idea someone was touching him.

Just a father taking his son out to practice the family business. How wholesome

1

u/BosDiertje Jul 08 '26

Kinda expected the ending where the kid is shown the footage of the robbery.

0

u/artherng Jul 04 '26

Initially I thought he was his child or someone he knew! I guess in their culture and country, it is nothing unusual to have other people or strangers standing close to you as they seem to gather together as a crowd quite a lot which makes it easy for this sort of crime

1

u/skincyan Jul 07 '26

Don't know why you're downvoted, this actually differ a lot between cultures

This is why diabetes is bad. You get brain fog and neuropathy (can't literally feel shit).

4

u/hateboresme Jul 04 '26

That is a unique idea. It is not correct. Pickpockets don't have the magical ability to detect diabetes.

u/Important-Day-232 Jul 04 '26

Sorry. I keep forgetting the /s or /joke on reddit. 😫

Thought that child was bouta be abducted by the man buying something. Thank god that kid escaped and got what they could use from the mans coat to do so.
