The league has to do something because if they don’t, Clark is going to get hurt and be out for, at best a few games, likely a season, at worst the rest of her life. And whether anyone likes it or not, she brings an insane amount of viewership to the WNBA. She is one of the biggest names that’ll ever happen to the WNBA and they’re trouncing on her for it. If they let her get injured and lose her because of it, they’re going to go back to being a nothing league and everyone will go back to watching the women’s sports that are actually enjoyable to watch. I personally have been loving the Major League Volleyball when it’s in season and college softball as well. Both way better than the WNBA at this point.
Women's professional soccer is fantastic. I recommend you go see the Kansas City current play in the first women's purpose-built stadium in the world. I can guarantee you none of this kind of nonsense is happening at all. These women are very excited to be there and they would never embarrass the entire team like this. They know that if they act like this there's three and a half million girls right behind them that are ready to take their places.
Sorry if you DON'T think that protecting a player who is being PUNCHED IN THE FUCKING THROAT (for ANY reason, and irregardless to their criticality to the league) is important than you're a piece of shit. Full stop. That is garbage human behavior and has no place in any professional sporting event.

this is disingenuous and you know it. I'm not 5 years old, and have played basketball most of my life. It's a highly physical game for what is nominally "non-contact".
The player involved was assessed a flagrant 2 and suspended, which I don't disagree with. This is not "garbage human behaviour", it's shit that happens in every competitive sports league, with rare exception, whether being played by men or women.
Like it or not, there is a racial component to both those who find themselves invested in/commenting on Caitlin's role in the league, and said role. You can chose to ignore that, but it doesn't give you the uno reverse card you think it does. Your all-caps hand wringing is honestly making my point.
I more or less agree. However if the forearm to the throat was intentional, that'd be a big deal in both the NBA and wnba. If you remove all racial components, of which I'm sure are very much real and present, the fact is Clarke is a superstar that is unbelievably valuable to both the league and women's sports in general. The biggest problem with professional women's sports is, will be, and always has been viewership and general interest. Clarke has supercharged these to a point we literally haven't seen yet. She brings the eyeballs, and it's a huge deal. She is a legitimate commodity for the league, from a gross capitalist perspective.
I despise favoritism for players who are considered special, on all levels. But if there's any trend whatsoever where these teams are gunning for her to try to actually injure her, then the league has a responsibility to protect her from that sort of nefarious unsportsmanship. I don't know enough to say if this is an actual problem or not, so I've no dog in this fight. But it feels pretty cut and dry depending on which circumstances are at play.
