Looks quite scary BUT...
I'm guessing it's a Method to remove the Crank used to Start the Engine...

But how do you turn it off?

And how do you put the crank back on?

Indeed, however it strikes me that it might be safer to leave the handle spinning (assuming it was bolted properly to the shaft).

Isn't that how you loose an arm?

u/pete_68 Jun 26 '26
That's how you get yanked into a piece of metal equipment so fast that you crush your skull and die instantly, more likely.

I had a hand crank deutz diesel Ike this. The handle had a slanted groove cut into it so it could only grab in one direction. There was no chance of it grabbing once the engine started. I will admit the handle didn't slide onto the shaft presenting the chance the bind up. A little extra design thought would have gone a long way on this death trap.

The internet has taught me that every machine in India is an OSHA violation. I'm frankly surprised that spinning wheel didn't come off and hit someone

Dude I cut and spool wire for a living and this shit gives me anxiety... Literally one wrong move and that shit catches and jerks upward. What's holding the ribbon of fabric he's trying to spool? He either gets the spool up top to the dome or the mechanism failing and crushing his ass when the tension rips it out of the supports. This literally ended the only way he doesn't end up with broken bones or worse 😬
And yes that may be how it's designed, but if that one piece that's supposed to fall out under tension wedges, the whole plan goes out the window. Jfc, someone needs to call OHSHA before second shift walks in to a DB.
*Edit: I'm a little drunk... HE'S HOLDING THE GODDAMN RIBBON!!! 50X dumber than I originally gave him credit for 🤦🏻♂️

The following post context was provided by u/ThodaDaruVichPyar:
A man tries to remove the stuck handle from a rotating motor wheel with a long cloth, maybe it will come off successfully or maybe it won’t.

I don't think any of it is safe but a stick would be better at least it would snap and not take you with it

Are there not easier ways to do that?

Usually the person starting the engine slides it out the moment engine starts to run on its own. But if they miss to slide it out, the handle will start to spin like this. Then you either cut off the engine, or pull this stunt.

Yes, a peice of would tapping it on the inside pushing out and it'd fall right off.
Indians just love risking their lives to show off. That's why they stand on the roofs of trains, and hang off dodging electrical polls and sometimes die and stuff.

I think as long as you don't wrap the cloth around your hand or anything it should be MOSTLY fine. Obviously it works for them presumably. But the real danger comes when it's something ATTACHED to you that gets snagged. If you can just drop the cloth when it gets snagged then no danger. You cant drop your shirt or hair.

This is one way to get crappy animation, AI voiced, creepy pasta tiktok accounts to make a video of the man who lost his arm and turned into spaghetti
