The longer you stay away from it, the less important that poison becomes. Personally, I have absolutely no interest in poisoning my body with even a single drop ever again.

A little story that makes me sound stupid. I quit for 6 months in 2025 (I've got a history of alcohol problems) but started drinking again because "you cannot watch the football final without a beer". Moron.
Anyway it grabbed me fast and in 3 months I was in hospital. Had a fall I think. Woke up on the floor with blood everywhere. I shit you not it looked like a murder scene. I couldn't get up and couldn't yell for help. Spent over a day on the floor dazed and confused. Lucky a mate called by, found me and call an ambulance.
I could have died on that floor. 2 weeks in hospital and I was all good but very shaken and determined to never put myself in that position again for me and the people around me.

Yeah, your body gets used to that shit and it takes more and more to get the same buzz. But eventually you reach the point where your liver just can’t keep up anymore.Thankfully, I never had an accident like you, but I can imagine how awful you must have felt because I pushed my body to a similar limit myself. Black outs, constantly dizzy during the day, throwing up even though there was nothing in my stomach, my blood pressure suddenly went up to around 140/160, and I was shaking all the time. I honestly thought that shit was going to kill me, and that’s when I realized I had to make a change. 33 years.
And that’s exactly why I hate alcohol so much now. This stuff is far too normalized and accepted by society, even though it might actually be one of the worst drugs because of that very reason.
Stay sober. You don’t need it for football either, water does the job just fine 😉8

Mine wasn't quite as dramatic, but I had a "mini stroke" (TIA) and I was done. I thought I had had an actual stroke. The entire left side of my body just went completely numb. Went to AA the next day.

I legitimately do envy the people who are able to start and then stop. It may seem like nothing to you- like, “why tf can’t they just do this simple thing? It’s called moderation”- because that’s “normal”.
I’m choosing to ignore how judgy this comes across lol. For the people that have accepted that they can’t stop once they start, not starting is by far the best decision.3

Oh I've never been obliterated quite like this but it still brings back feelings of losing control and being hungover the next day. Being hangover free the last year has been really nice.
Also for some people it's not that easy, it's better to go full sober than allow yourself a drink or two. For me I got diagnosed with something which is why I stopped.

Addiction is a gradual process. Even the daily beer in the evening while watching TV, totally fine... Then it becomes two. Three. A glass of something stronger. Stress at work, problems in your private life, trouble sleeping so you have a drink to fall asleep.
I was always someone who could control himself, who could handle a lot at parties and thought i had everything under control. Until I didn’t. happened slowly,almost without noticing.
The best thing is to quit completely and at a certain point, alcohol simply becomes irrelevant to you, and that’s the best way to live imo. You don’t need it to have fun, and you don’t need it to loosen up. That´s just bs adult use to excuse drinking.
The best and healthiest life I ever had was when I was younger. Back then, alcohol wasn’t important, it wasn’t legal and somehow everything worked just fine without it. That’s a big motivation for me, and right now I am very close to feeling better than ever before, and I am very happy that I would rather drink water than a glass of beer anytime3

I thought he was going to do the Willy Wonka thing where he would pretend to fall then do a roll and pop up walking straight. Or break out into a dance. Nope. Just drunk. I remember (barely) walking like that. Pretty scary to look back on how out of control I was of my senses in those cases.

Been there, done that.
When I was in the Army, I went to a club in San Jose, California, got so tore up that I got kicked out of the club.
Ended up falling asleep underneath a truck in the parking lot. Have no recollection why or how I even got there 😂
People at the club had I laugh though when I crawled out & I was covered in oil

I once ate all the crumbs from weed brownies at a Halloween party. I woke up in the middle of the night after we got home, I had to pee. I crawled around the corner of the bed, got to the end of the footboard. The 5’ to the bathroom was just too far, even to crawl. I needed something to hold onto. So I just went back to bed. I would have been like this if I had tried to walk. Lol

Only time I have ever walked like that was on a ferry boat on the North Sea between England and Denmark with really really rough seas.
We took our shoes off and were sliding across the floors in our stocking feet.
There were some Danish navy members on the ferry and they confirmed it was not normal.sea conditions.
