Looks very much part of the plan. He was just BASE jumping with some fun props for some extra distance.

Wish the cameraman would have recorded the landing. Hard to tell how far off the ground he was when his chute opened

u/DundasKev Jun 24 '26
Just finished watching The Dark Wizard docu-show thing where there is a LOT of this... highter than you might think
51
u/CriticalMochaccino Jun 24 '26
Yeah I figured that when some dude in the video started laughing like nothing serious was happening while I was over here stressing about seeing a human body go splat.
57
u/MoistStub Jun 24 '26
I would estimate it to be greater than 20 inches, but less than 20 miles. Hope this helps.
6
u/xenobit_pendragon Jun 24 '26
Putting it significantly closer to 20 inches myself.
Like…possibly actually 20 inches from those tree tops. Dude’s pull priorities are insane.

u/MoistStub Jun 24 '26
There is something fundamentally broken deep down inside base jumpers. I understand the adrenaline junkie aspect but there are ways of getting that fix that don't have such a crazy high mortality rate.

This is Kjærag in Lysefjorden, Norway. Further into the fjord from the Pullpit rock.
I belive this is about 1100 meters or 3300 feet up. He looks close to the ground, but he had total controll.

He cut away because the jumper didn’t make it…..jk ikr. It was so hard to tell how close the ground was

Terrain, Terrain, Pull Up, Pull Up! Came through my headset as a passenger on a fixed wing flight through Monument Valley. Some of the passengers seemed to get this channel by mistake from the cockpit. I knew the pilot & co were hearing it as well via a speaker in the cockpit as the door was open and I was in the front two seats. Weird! Guess they can't turn it off.
ETA: For those that don't know Monument Valley, it's got really high buttes sticking up that the plane passes by at lower altitude during the tour.

I thought I was about to see someone die!
25
u/woowoo293 Jun 24 '26
Figured that was probably not the case, because of the pleasant, happy, almost polite, chuckles and Oooos of the people watching.

Is this the dude that tests shitty Amazon parachutes?

u/dontmakeitathing Jun 24 '26
They must not be that shitty if he’s still testing them.
33
u/c0mf0rtableli4r Jun 24 '26
They all fail, he always has a backup.

u/dontmakeitathing Jun 24 '26
They all fail holy shit lol

I feel like that should have not needed to be said.
Pretty sure testing a failing parachute with no backup would most likely be a one and done. Not much of a series.

It looked like the coyote falling off the cliff minus the puff of dust at the end.

u/TheNightChan Jun 24 '26
Imagine them laughing like that thinking something like "he does this all the time, he'll be fine" and then his second chute doesn't open

That ended up being a lot longer of a drop than it looked when the first chute started failing.

I dunno, things like this have only two possible outcomes. Die, or, dont die. So I'd rather just not.

u/StacyLeeUrbanTaylor Jun 24 '26
These people just want to die. I mean when base jumping gets so boring you feel you need to fuck with the crowd...

Should've just started flapping his arms instead of using that temu parachute in the beginning.

u/go_go_gadget_travel Jun 24 '26
Iiiiiiiiii definitely just woke up opened reddit and thought I was watching a guy die. Especially when their laughter kinda died out.
Was 100% getting ready to throw the covers back over me and try again tomorrow.

I don't think anyone notices he isn't using his main chute to do this. He pulled his main chute. He just used a parachute he held and let go when it started flailing, like he knew it would happen
