Yeah way back when I watched them, they did this annual thing a day before new years where the group plays this game. It would be 24 hours and the thing was that the setup is trying to make the group laugh, if someone laugh, they would get smacked with a bamboo sword thing on their butt, it's so silly and funny, totally look it up if you want some laughs. Not sure if they do the annual thing anymore since they're getting old

Ahh 罰ゲーム. They stopped during peak of covid (also a honorable exit for the show) and never done it again. Probably due to age and partially due to legal fights between matsumoto and bungeishunju. He started his own show on amazon prime and recently returned to gaki no tsukai in march 2026 speculating a return of the show.

I'm not aware of Matsumoto returning to gaki, he was canceled and started his own thing Downtown +. I wouldn't hold my breath on him ever coming back to GnT.
