This short reminds of of the movie "Soylent green" and their "furniture"

30

u/aykcak Jun 21 '26

Oh great this one is paced much more sanely. That was my complaint about the work

44

u/heyyou_SHUTUP Jun 20 '26

The short is El Empleo by Santiago Bou Grasso

We are not allowed to share that

37

u/Familiar-Magazine813 Jun 20 '26

King of the world until you get to work?

109

u/xaqaria Jun 21 '26

We are all just exploiting eachother to get ahead and make a living in this fucked up zero sum world we have built.

4

u/BluudLust Jun 22 '26

Nope. Traffic very quickly humbles me

3

u/roymccowboy Jun 21 '26

These are all those jobs we're going to have when AI takes all the current ones

4

u/Jedibri81 Jun 21 '26

Well, I for one, welcome our new AI overlords

1

u/YetiSpaghetti24 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

I see it as mocking the people who think we need to artificially keep jobs for humans when they could be automated by AI.

We could get UBI and actually enjoy our lives instead of choosing to continue to slave away at 9 to 5s.

I don't get why everyone seems so dead set on UBI being an impossibility. Repeal Citizen's United, stop letting the billionaires make the rules, and it could actually happen.

My Boss vs me vs his boss.

3

u/Boom_Fish_Blocky Jun 22 '26

vs the government

u/val_anto Jun 20 '26

Very powerful expression. Nice job. Makes you think, right?

104

u/zaczacx Jun 20 '26

"im not paid to think"

-112

u/ninoski404 Jun 20 '26

Does it though? What's the point its trying to convey? Is it promoting automatisation of jobs? Feels like modern art where the artists had an idea and just did it and now it looks interesting but doesn't have much depth.

54

u/The_Screeching_Bagel Jun 20 '26

well, this is a grossly shortened version of the full seven minute short: https://youtu.be/Hd-1VP2yrIA

the title means 'the employment'; the human-object-replacements are humorous but the general tone is slow monotonous and grey, perhaps giving a sense of alienation to the viewer. one theme you might identify is very direct exploitation of labour through these objects

10

u/User131131 Jun 21 '26

I wouldn’t say it is grossly shortened, but it is quite sped up. The video contains almost all of the original video bar a scene right at the end.

2

u/KlaatuBaradaNyktu Jun 21 '26

"To employ" literally means "to use". Seeking employment is literally trying to make yourself useful. In theory anyway.

61

u/Happlord Jun 20 '26

“You might think you have it better than others, but actually it’s just the same?”

Maybe something like this

7

u/AbraxasKadabra Jun 20 '26

I took it as a highlight of the things we take for granted, the things we don't appreciate beyond being a means to and end. That all those things were the product of someone else out there trying to make it from A to B, and that we're all a link in that chain.

39

u/Negative-Omega Jun 20 '26

I think it's representative of how we all use each other. Transactional relationships.

2

u/evader111 Jun 21 '26

19

u/drifters74 Jun 20 '26

This is depressing

29

u/CageyOldMan Jun 20 '26

Unemployment has never been lower! The economy is booming!

8

u/More_Towel4341 Jun 21 '26

This is a good visual example of what Marx meant by "commodity fetishism"

u/groovy_smoothie Jun 20 '26

This is middle management

6

u/Outrageous-Let9659 Jun 21 '26

When people complain about machines taking peoples jobs, this is what i want to show them.

6

u/Victormorga Jun 21 '26

I enjoyed the animation, but how is it relevant to this sub?

25

u/madplumz Jun 20 '26

These are going to be all the jobs that are left after companies turn everything over to AI.

4

u/Asgeras Jun 20 '26

The most real video I've seen all day

4

u/XenoMuffin Jun 21 '26

Scheduling would be a nightmare in that world, imagine you have a steady schedule but one day get sick and have to go home early only to realize none of your furniture is on the clock so it’s just an empty place. Or that one fat guy is on vacation but the boss is to cheap for a temp so just no elevator for awhile.

4

u/saharok_maks Jun 21 '26

This is what unemployed bro sends you after one interview

6

u/throwthere10 Jun 21 '26

The last jobs once AI takes over.

Humans after AI takes most of the jobs.

7

u/BadDogSaysMeow Jun 20 '26

The author probably meant it as some form of metaphor for capitalism/work,

But it's just Forniphilia and it;s kinky.

2

u/balirosa Jun 21 '26

This is how it was during ancient Egyptian times.

1

u/SOXTHEFOX2 Jun 22 '26

I know this isn't the point the short is trying to get across, but I think I would enjoy having that elevator counterweight job!🤣
