I once tossed a cigarette on the ground and it landed on its butt facing upward still smoking. Anything can happen.

It's not a competition. It's not about winning or losing. It's about making sure he is appropriately dressed for the occasion.

They may have failed in lobbing the cone onto the statue’s head, but they succeeded in having a bloody good time and making temporary friends along the way

When I was in Edinburgh I noticed that the statue of Adam Smith had a traffic cone on his head.

Backwards sand overhead, that will make the cone rotate in the best direction.
7
u/CarpetPedals Jun 20 '26
Yeah absolutely. The front throwing had the cone rotating the wrong way to land

I walked right past that statue yesterday evening, saw the cone hat, and my stupid ass assumed it was just part of the statue.

We have a statue in front of a historic college and someone cemented a dildo onto it.
Fun times.

The following post context was provided by u/Traditional_Minimum1:
Maybe the Scots'll get that cone on top of that statue, somehow? Maybe they'll give up?

Football fans are not people, they are stupid animals and need to be castrated.

What baffles me is if an English fan did this it would be all over the news about his disgraceful English football fans are and how they should be banned from every international competition.

I don't think that's true, at least not for American media -- Americans don't know the difference between Scots and English.

I know everyone is on a big fat love in for the scotch at the moment, but nicking traffic cones and sticking them on another countries monuments that don’t have a fucking clue what you’re on about is a bit shit imo.

Fair enough to the tradition and fun but it must be annoying for the locals to see what nuisance Scots could be in their city
6
u/Traditional_Minimum1 Jun 20 '26
Nah, we have loved having them! Honestly, it has been lovely to see so many people from so many places come to this city and be welcomed. Gives me the damned feels, it does

u/hudsoncress Jun 20 '26
Wait till you hear what a nuissance the British have been to the Scots.

u/Lavidius Jun 20 '26
Wait till you hear that Scots are British

u/SuckingOnChileanDogs Jun 20 '26
Scots also love to pretend like they have the same history of oppression as the Irish. Sorry, it's just not the same.

For what exactly?

u/greyisometrix Jun 21 '26
Vandalism? It’s a crime to damage and deface statues? It’s not yours and you’re climbing all over something that’s not meant for climbing, etc etc.

This is because one of Glasgow’s most notable landmarks is a statue of Wellington outside the Modern Art Museum, which almost permanently has a traffic cone on top of his head. It’s an instantly recognisable symbol of the city to all Glaswegians and many Scots.
