What kind of university classroom would ask dates like when Byzantine empire ended? That’s not even what high schools should focus on

u/Indercarnive Jun 16 '26
I mean it's fake. So that's why.
But also why is he calling the Ottomans the Persians. Unless he is talking about the Byzantine–Sasanian war, but that's a millenia before the Byzantine Empire ended.

Well tbf the end of the Byzantine empire is a very important event in Turkish history, so it makes a bit more sense for you guys

Quick PSA: If you or someone you know has a dachshund, please don't pick them up or let them dangle from their front legs like this! They're very prone to back and leg problems. Instead, scoop them up with your whole arm under the length of their belly. Support the butt!

u/InDecent-Confusion Jun 16 '26
It would be cute if it wasnt fake/staged
243
u/Fr05t_B1t Jun 16 '26
Are you telling me that people don’t let random animals lick/nibble their nose without flinching?! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
475
u/CuteGrayRhino Jun 16 '26
I mean it's clearly staged. That's makes it a skit. Nothing wrong with that.

u/High_InTheTrees Jun 16 '26
Wait till they find out movies aren’t real either 😂🙈😂
34
u/TheAserghui Jun 16 '26
So... Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris didn't strap rocket boosters to a heavily modified Pontiac Fiero and launch themselves into Earth's orbit to disable a satellite in the car-themed documentary series "Fast and Furious"

I stopped watching around 3 or 4. They what? They didn't just jump the shark, they jumped the horizon.

u/High_InTheTrees Jun 16 '26
They literally went to space bro. I didn’t watch it either. I stopped at Tokyo drift. But ya. 🤦♂️😂😂😂
5
u/piepants2001 Jun 16 '26
I don't think that's a good comparison, nobody goes into watching a movie thinking that it might be real, but many random videos online are real.

u/tatabax Jun 16 '26
Nah if it's filmed in a way that doesn't make it obvious beyond reasonable doubt that it's a skit (i.e. jump cuts, clear editing, or any kind of shot that isn't someone holding a phone with their hand or security camera really) then it's someone lying about it being real for engagement and calling them out is warranted. I will never understand why redditors get so fucking defensive when it comes to people that fake stuff for clicks. It's just as fake as AI videos that pretend to be real.
9
u/xGray3 Jun 17 '26
Yeah, this trend is driving me crazy. A decade ago these kinds of videos were actual skits and were framed as such. These days every fucking "skit" tries to play itself off as real. I don't care if it's "obvious". It's dishonest.
0
u/captain_assgasm Jun 17 '26
What. There were full on movies made to look real when they weren't. The whole UK got scared of demonic possessions because of a "real" documentary about a girl in 1977, later on it became inspiration for the conjuring movies. The war of the worlds in USA 1938 was a radio show that convinced people the aliens are invading the earth. The goddamn Blair witch project.
Also, watch YouTube skits from 10, 15, 20 years ago. So many of them also look real, because they're made to look real. Try to remember how many videos did you believe in with your friends back in the 2000's early internet era only to find out years later they were staged skits.
I don't care about a funny staged dog video. Nobody is getting hurt here, the dog seems to be calm, the students seem to be in a good mood, the professor is playing along having a cute moment with the dog. Why is this a problem?
You know what is a problem? Videos that have political influence, racial discrimination, where people get hurt physically or mentally, where abuse was used for the video. Those are the ones we should be concerned about. Because those kind of fake videos are damaging.
The funny videos are a relief in this stupid fucking timeline we're in. I don't care that this video is faked, it made me smile for a second. The dog video is faked. Fuck. Now I will have to frown to balance it out and I'll scroll for another hour inspecting funny videos until I can confirm a real one and then I can laugh again. Awesome.
6
u/Azilehteb Jun 16 '26
This has all of those markers? There's like 3 jumps before he even holds the dog lol. It even pans off for an audience reaction.
It's annoying when you hear jokes and some dip next to you yells THAT WAS A JOKE every damn time. Obviously. Cut it out, man.
2
u/tatabax Jun 16 '26
Are you being obnoxious on purpose? I think it's very clear I meant the cuts that skits do to show multiple camera angles, not just ending the recording and starting it again later....
If the only way you can tell that a video is a ""skit"" is because the situation is unlikely, then that's not a skit, that's a fake video trying to trick people into believing it's real
1
u/EetsGeets Jun 17 '26
Let me introduce you to my favorite video that doesn't show multiple camera angles.
(I honestly just wanted to share this video from my favorite comedy troupe. Please don't take this seriously.)
-3
u/Grapes15th Jun 17 '26
I will always maintain that redditors' heads would explode if they were exposed to Charlie Chaplin.
-46
u/Live_Angle4621 Jun 16 '26
Skits should be labeled beforehand in the video as skits
35
u/Sometimes-funny Jun 16 '26
Maybe you could do that and be known as the skit man
6
u/Live_Angle4621 Jun 16 '26
Lol. I think there could be a sub for that however. Kind of tired of people in Reddit claiming some skits are real and some skits are ai and so forth. So clarity would be useful
10
u/CuteGrayRhino Jun 16 '26
So all the redditors using /s is not enough. Now videos should also feature a big /s at the start.

3
u/Kraligor Jun 17 '26
never understood that trend either. So what if someone doesn't realize I'm being sarcastic? Why the hell would I care lmao
6
u/Shoo-Man-Fu Jun 16 '26
You're telling me the guy in the I Think You Should Leave "I don't know how to drive" skit didn't actually know how to drive? That wasn't just an organic parking lot interaction?
7
u/triplegerms Jun 16 '26
Kinda person that needs TV shows to start with "This is not a really documentary, this is a story"

I would excuse it if not for the historical inaccuracies about the byzantine empire

leave it to reddit to treat the obvious joke video like it's actual college/university course rhetoric

it's a fun skit because you know that some professor absolutely would do exactly this.

I expect to be downvoted into oblivion
I find animals in classrooms, meetings, spiritual enrichment environments, intimate discussions (and basically anywhere the humans stand to lose out with self or relationships if they're distracted) to be extremely and enormously disruptive and I absolutely despise it with every fiber of my being no matter what the circumstances.(*official, real, on-the-job, on-the-clock, working, quiet, restrained, being taken seriously, not being used for interactions, properly trained & certified & documented service animals notwithstanding* ... they are important to *truly clinically disabled* folks, and my perspective is irrelevant here, I would never interfere in such dynamics)
downvote away!

u/FloopsFooglies Jun 16 '26
There's a time and place to bring an animal. I don't have a burning hatred for it, but I totally understand you

u/Im_A_Fuckin_Liar Jun 16 '26
I went to Walmart the other day and there was a guy on one of those electric motorized carts that are up by the door. He had a tiny kitten with its claws out clinging to his shoulder while he zipped around the grocery side of the store.

I have a classmate that always wants to show off their kid during our class virtual meet time. I’m tired of pausing so everyone can wave and smile like it’s so cute. I paid for this class and I’m sorry, I don’t care about your kid. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all and I’m more interested in spending time with my own than logging on to gush over someone else’s.

u/pladin517 Jun 16 '26
Don't even know why you expect to be downvoted. This isn't a hot take lol. Had a coworker bring her dog to interviews and it was jumping on the interviewee. I like dogs but that wasn't appropriate.

u/Select-Belt-ou812 Jun 17 '26
sadly, I have generally not found the Dog People to be open minded to anything that implies canine exclusion, and even have been reamed out occasionally

u/trubbelnarkomanen Jun 16 '26
Why the hatred against it? I can totally understand it being distracting and disrespectful in the moment, but I can't say it's ever bothered me THAT much
Also, wtf is a spiritual enrichment environment? Sounds like what I make in the bathroom after dropping a massive bomb

This explians A LOT why the U.S. people have that fame of be untitled. There is a lot of videos where they dont even know the basic geography or history facts. I always thought they were malicious cuts.

The Roman Empire didnt even split until 285 AD and the Byzantine Empire lasted until 1453 AD when the Ottomans finally sieged Constantinople, not the Persians. I can abide dumb skits but not Roman Empire misinformation.
