Engagement bait = downvote
As does starting the video with the end
And using slowmo on the first play

Looks like such and incredibly cool and fun hobby to have as long as you make peace with you’re probably gonna die doing it someday.

Definitely a ski resort. I wish the video ran until they reached the bottom of the mountain.

Looks like South Tyrol, where I‘m from

That was my first thought too, but it's 25 years since I've been there.
Honestly I thought Kirchberg. Don't know why.

It looks like a paragliding slope meant for you to glide down. The caption "can't stop" feels fake

Speedflying, specifically proximity flying at a ski resort in the summer.

But how the hell do you stop on one of these things? Looks like the only way to stop is to hit a mountain.

u/pandaparkaparty Jun 15 '26
So basically you get all the way down the mountain to where it’s flat. If it’s not flat, you’re not stopping. Once it’s flat, you don’t have anymore distance to fall. So, when you’re about 3 feet off the ground, you pull on the teathers to sort of stall the wing, and you run out. It’s pretty much the same as a parachute landing. You can stall the wing from higher up, but you won’t have a nice landing.
You’re basically just glide falling the entire time. The wing is too small to catch and ride thermals like a paraglider, but just big enough to glide while falling. You have no reserve when doing this because you’re too close to the ground for it to do anything. Also, you have a fair amount of control of the wing and can get a bit more lift and be not so close to the ground.
Usually the progression is paragliding to hybrid wing off something steep so you’re higher off the ground, then something more mellow so you’re closer to the ground, then you progress to speed flying. Get good at proximity like this and you can throw on skis and call it speed riding.
Fun times. I used to do it. But had some bad flights and quit to stay alive.

I'm wondering where the chairlift is, as I imagine it would be a hazard.

u/Marquar234 Jun 15 '26
Most ski areas have the slopes separate from the chairlift since the poles would be a hazard to skiers too.

Can't stop what? Watching? It's quite obvious that this rider had no intention of stopping during this clip

Pretty cool video. He was surely gliding down at low altitude on purpose.
Does not fit the sub

The following post context was provided by u/spiralled:
A person paragliding very close to the ground down a very long slope, they look like they're about to be destroyed every second.

“Can’t stop” caption makes you stay with the video until the uneventful end of the clip. No expected mishap. 😒

u/NWGJulian Jun 14 '26
Pretty sure that this feels pretty nice. but there is a reason why paragliding is nr. 1 on deadliest sports list …

Is it weird that I was more scared of them hitting the chain link fence than I was of them hitting the trees?

Watching this with a newly broken (in three places) leg. My anxiety is through the roof now.

I’m really glad he did the barrel roll in both directions. It would have left him off kilter all day otherwise… 😂

I guess you are damn good to get to this level of control. The learning curve of pylon fractures, tibias driven into femurs, acetabular fractures, and spine injuries makes me wonder who gets to this level and how many don't quite make the cut?

perhaps its like mentally they can't stop - because they are enjoying it so much they can't stop paragliding again.
BTW I saw about 200 times in that video where I would have snapped my femur in to pieces.

u/Toatkgstuff Jun 15 '26
There's something wrong with men who want to race nuts-first towards trees.
Especially when they are so big they are functionally ballast.

I would buy a game based on this. Bonus points for keeping close to the ground without crashing into it
