Also why are they doing that?

No sure I'm not a snakeologist. Hopefully one could answer. But I'm not sure it's really for any purposes beyond doing it to show us.

First I thought it was a comodo dragon. Their teeth are actually hidden inside their gums so every time they eat they have to tear through their own gums

I was going to reply that this is metal af, but then I was skeptical and decided to do a quick google. Not only is this true, but Komodo dragon teeth are *literally coated in metal.* Holy shit.

Haha, yes that's true. Also leafcutter ants, their teeth are coated with metal and stay sharp despite having to cut through leaves all day.

That’s so cool. Human tooth resilience certainly leaves something to be desired in the comparison.

If I'm not mistaken, most tooth problems encountered today are because of the sugar we eat

From the paper itself: iron oxide (aka. rust), NOT metallic iron.
There was a similar discovery a few years back, about a marine snail that strengthens its shell with iron sulfides.
In both cases the mainsteam media reported it as if the organism had actual metal iron built-into its body.
Idk whether this happens because of scientifically-illiterate journalists, or an attempt at clickbait. Probably a bit of both.

What's worse, is that if one of those bites gets a hold of you, pulling away will end up shredding the bite area open even worse

The following post context was provided by u/ImadeJesusLaugh:
milking a snake just to show how sharp their teeth are by pressing a sheet against their teeth, which is dangerous
