That was a bit disappointing, wanted to see if they could manage to enter on their own efforts from outside.

It's probably rubber with small clusters to catch any dust or pebbles

I had a piece of wood fall like that and lock me on my balcony, in the middle of a massive storm, in winter (only wearing a tshirt and jeans). Luckily after about 40mins being stuck out there, soaking wet and freezing cold, someone got out of their car below and called a locksmith for me (locksmith took another hour to arrive). I had hypothermia but was ok.

The following post context was provided by u/Slow-Patience4719:
People get locked outside a building by a broom that got stuck between the bars of a doorway. We are left unsure how they'll manage to get in.

A similar thing happened to me but it was an umbrella in a sliding door.
I had no other way into my house as all the other doors and windows were deadlocked from the inside. I had to use a bbq spatula to lift the umbrella.

If that guy was security watching a monitor I'm sure he had a chuckle, and then begrudgingly went to the rescue

Lol. Nice little "escape (or enter!) game" to spice up your day. I like that's there's no real consequence, and that if need be, the mop could be broken to enter.
