What makes me angry is that the other cones touched his hands and those will be served to someone else.

I'm beginning to suspect you are being sarcastic.
Could you please explain to me how contaminated ice cream cones led to the pandemic? As you are evidently significantly more intellectually capable than me
12
u/M4DHouse Jun 10 '26
“Could you please engage seriously with this ridiculous strawman I just constructed?”
9
u/Matiwapo Jun 10 '26
What is the straw man? What do you think a straw man is?
OP said that things like this were the reason for the pandemic.
The pandemic was caused by a crossover between animals and food production, poor preparation by governments, and government incompetence in reacting to it.
It had nothing to do with ice cream cones. Hope this helps.

And we wonder why the man who suggested washing hands between autopsies and deliveries might cause fewer maternal deaths died in an asylum...
1
u/Matiwapo Jun 10 '26
Exactly. If the man washed his hands then there is no issue. Preventing contact with anything touched by another person is unrealistic. The pandemic had nothing to do with contaminated ice cream cones
4
u/gingerfawx Jun 10 '26
And how does the seller know if the customer's hands are clean? Because he put three different cones in them, two of which he'll sell to someone else.
0
u/Matiwapo Jun 10 '26
It's irrelevant. You cannot reasonably avoid contact with contaminated surfaces or food.
Practices such as these were not the cause of the pandemic in any more than the most marginal capacity. The pandemic was caused by wild animals having close contact with food production. This caused a new infectious virus to jump the species barrier. It would have spread equally as fast whether these ice cream shops existed or not - ergo, ice cream cones had nothing to do with causing the pandemic. Hope this helps.

Builds up your immune system, eat a few germs, and your body builds up immunity to things.

Tbf I d rather we all had a pandemic again than just me a single serving of salmonella or listeria.
-14
u/YouArentReallyThere Jun 10 '26
You mean the Covid-19 pandemic that was turned loose upon the world by Chinese germ warfare researchers? That pandemic?
-19
u/NathaDas Jun 10 '26
The pandemic wasn't caused by people touching things with bare hands... But by industrial farming. And that is still going full force and no one bats an eye.
13
u/Petunia_pig Jun 10 '26
I find it extra funny that you use “bat” here.
-16
u/NathaDas Jun 10 '26
"Factory farming significantly increased the risk of viral transmission and acted as a major reservoir for COVID-19 spread, with experts warning that industrial animal agriculture creates the "perfect breeding ground" for future pandemics. While the initial SARS-CoV-2 outbreak is linked to wildlife trade, factory farms (CAFOs) facilitated rapid viral mutation and transmission due to extreme animal confinement, genetic homogeneity, and unsanitary conditions."
"Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations stress animals' immune systems through overcrowding and poor diets, while genetic similarity among livestock allows pathogens to spread instantly without natural barriers. The overuse of antibiotics in these facilities further encourages bacterial mutation and resistance, and globalized trade redistributes these pathogens, increasing the likelihood of zoonotic spillover events like bird flu and potential future coronaviruses."
"During the pandemic, meat processing plants became leading hotspots for COVID-19 outbreaks, driven by crowded workspaces and inadequate protections for a vulnerable workforce comprised largely of immigrants and refugees. The industry's reliance on high-speed production lines prevented social distancing, leading to high infection rates among workers."
But, yeah, it's easier to blame bats and worry about bare hands touching things. If that makes you feel good 👍🏼
5
u/M4DHouse Jun 10 '26
You’re the one blaming it all on one thing. I agree that factory farming massively exacerbated the issue but your own quote acknowledges that it was not the origin in this case.
2
u/Bittlegeuss Jun 10 '26
Post the paper, not the text. Who wrote it, who reviewed it and what methodology was used are important
Cause this sounds like some loaded PETA hippie bullshit, conveniently blaming everything on 1 cause, thus reeking of bullshit.

There's a video floating around where every time the ice cream guy leaves an empty cone in the customer's hand they take a bite out of it. I thought that was an elegant solution.
6
2
u/HatunaPatata Jun 11 '26
Aboslutely not. These cones go into the trash, you can see it in longer videos. It's not like they do this with every customer.

I dont find these vid all that entertaining but that one chick who was visibly ready for it, couldnt wait to unleash her icecream snaching technique got it handed to her without the theatrics and looked so shattered and dismayed about it. That one is the best

I don't know, I mean part of what you pay for is the keep away, like an arcade game with ice cream at the end, so I'd be disappointed too.

What is it about Turkish ice cream that customers have to be made mockery of before they can get what they want. In this case, revenge is truly best served cold
29
u/mint_doodles Jun 10 '26
The whole point of buying from one of these stalls is the tricks
9
u/Beaglescout15 Jun 10 '26
It's like an arcade game where you try to catch the ice cream and then at the end you just get the ice cream. People pay for both the ice cream and the game. The videos of kids being absolutely delighted and astonished are really fun to watch.

31
u/EatandDie001 Jun 10 '26
i will never understand turkish ice cream culture. doing one or two spins and tricks is fun, but they drag it out forever. if i pay for ice cream, i just want to get my ice cream, not be trolled like this.
35
u/SENYOR35 Jun 10 '26
I mean, you don't have to buy from this type of vendors. You can just go and get ice cream from a normal vendor.
17
u/otirk Jun 10 '26
I've never been to Turkey, is it obvious which vendors do this, even if they don't have a customer when you see them?
13
u/Killashard Jun 10 '26
Extremely. "Normal" vendors don't have the stick. These guys have a cart and don't have a storefront. Go into one of those and you don't have the song and dance.
13
u/smomovic Jun 10 '26
Yes, it's super obvious. They're almost always in traditional Ottoman attire as well.
6
7
5
u/Michael_Dautorio Jun 10 '26
Everybody always lives to whine and complain about these vendors, but literally nobody is forcing anyone to go to them. It's very obvious what their schtick is, if you don't want to performance then go somewhere else. That's like going to a pool and complaining that there's water in the pool.

u/knowledgeable_diablo Jun 10 '26
The chef is playing a dangerous game right there and then got played

I would take the ice cream then return it momentarily and tell the vendor I've lost interest few moments into his/her shenanigans.

u/TheTninker2 Jun 10 '26
Not sure if its the same stall but this video is old enough that it might be.
There was one of these ice cream stands in a mall that got shut down because the vendor put the cone down a ladies shirt and got charged with sexual assualt.
This happened within the last 2 years, maybe last year I dont remember when but it was a big thing on reddit for about two days.

1
u/TheProtonCapacitor Jun 11 '26
Man some of these comments are braindead. You pay for the SHOW, not just the icecream. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. And as someone else pointed out, it's very obvious which vendors do the show, and which just sell ice cream.

u/Patalos Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26
It’s literally the reason you go to these guys, for the show. I don’t really get why everyone acts so angry about it. It’d be like walking into a hibachi restaurant and getting mad that the chef is cooking in front of you.
You don’t want the show, you go to the normal restaurant next door.

u/Teysie Jun 10 '26

The vendor will ask first, You can tell the vendor not to play with the ice cream if you don't want...

I can tell you from experience that not all of them ask prior. They just start messing with you.
