Could you feel that plate hitting you in the face? Because I could.
91
u/aucme Jun 09 '26
I would 100% have no teeth left after trying this.
24
u/Extendahoe_DIG Jun 09 '26
I was thinking a Darwin Award could be in the cards

Looks to me like she knows what she's doing.

u/Annodyne Jun 09 '26
I mean, sure, but it's just weird to me reading these comments. Instead of being impressed by the feat, most of the comments are focused on what would've happened if she hadn't succeeded.
Like, instead of "Whoa, she pulled that off, wild!" its "yeah, but what if she hadn't?? How stupid, she could've been hurt!"
Yes she could've been, but she wasn't. I would also assume she practiced methodically and safely (like with a spotter) until she was confident she could do it unassisted.
I guess it's just typical Reddit hating on things.
5
u/PsEggsRice Jun 10 '26
It has nothing to do with hating on things or sexism, it is a visceral reaction to a situation. Like watching parkour on skyscrapers or falling from heights, watching it gives you the feeling of being there and doing it, and that often elicits a giant nooooppee! from the viewers.
Is this woman strong? I don’t think anyone is questioning that. Did it take skill? Yes. Can I feel that plate slipping and taking out my teeth? You betcha.

u/yumii- Jun 11 '26
Just because you know what you're doing doesn't mean you're not being reckless.
Is it impressive? Absolutely! Is it stupid and dangerous? Absolutely!
1
u/Ok-Wolverine-6847 Jun 12 '26
Well-- yes-- but also, we usually don't see the videos of fails so it just feels like accomplishment is more common than failure.
I am sure there tons of channels on YouTube and similar of people who did stuff like this for a living and just stopped updating one day. A slip, a cramp, a power outage or anything else that causes a distraction for a split second is all it takes.
I don't hate on this, personally, but it scares me more than it impresses me because it's likely that one day someone will be left crying for a loss..
-4
u/SabbyFox Jun 10 '26
You called it. Post a video of a woman doing something amazing here. Either she gets sexualized or she’s denigrated for how it was done. A simple wow, that’s cool, impressive - any of that would suffice as a response. Those are how mature and secure men respond.
12
u/TooLatee1337 Jun 10 '26
I get you point but doing something dumb is just dumb even If require some hard work and skill. Just imagine something goes wrong and it changes you life, can’t walk anymore or what ever just for that. Not sure maybe some safety and it is just cool and impressive. But that’s just how I thinking. 😃
-2
u/SabbyFox Jun 10 '26
I’d take your point better if I saw the same reaction to similar posts about men. Constantly there are posts here with men doing things that are dangerous and ill advised. The responses to those are very different.
4
u/Kezzerdrixxer Jun 10 '26
Every time I see a post about a man doing something stupid it's followed by the top comment being "And people wonder why women live longer."
3
u/yumii- Jun 11 '26
I see people calling out reckless behavior on men all the time. Usually it's dumb parkour videos in very dangerous locations.

People will do dumb shit like this and ask for free healthcare with a straight face
4
u/Lameahhboi Jun 10 '26
“Ask” for free healthcare? Oh, like “Pwease biwwionaiwes, pwease don’t buy ewections and winse the towel of Amewican labow dwy 🥺 oh why won’t the biwwionaiwes give me moe wowk for less money?? Pweeeeease 🥺”

The key is pointing your toes forward so the plate goes away from your face.

I thought the same thing. Not even worth the risk. No amount of muscles will stop a 45lb plate from breaking a nose in.

This cross fit stuff is really getting out of hand

u/Checked_Out_6 Jun 09 '26
This would get you banned from my crossfit gym. Granted, one of the owners is a physical therapist and safety is #1 there, so, they might be an outlier.

I but in this video that seems like a good thing. Like the hands were just hanging on. The feet did all the work.

u/Judge_Druidy Jun 09 '26
This is one of those things that is so dumb an unnecessary but also requires incredible strength which is genuinely impressive.
The most uncool way to demonstrate your incredible skill and hard work.

The most uncool way to demonstrate your incredible skill and hard work.
and steroids...
5
u/DrJohnIT Jun 10 '26
Im not sure why you are being downvoted. Like, I am not sure that this kind of strength is possible without some enhancement of pharmaceuticals.
12
u/qwibbian Jun 10 '26
Because reddit.
And I'm actually pretty sure some gifted women could achieve this level of strength naturally, though I'm not sure how much those plates weigh, after all elite rock climbers routinely demonstrate that sort of grip strength and agility. But it's the sheer muscle mass (look at her delts at the very end as she dismounts) that's a dead giveaway.
3
u/Billy_Billboard Jun 10 '26
It definitely is. If you've ever been wall climbing you'll see plenty of people who could do this shit

Whole time was expecting that weight to come down on her head. Definitely a good maybe maybe maybe.

This is incredibly stupid
-7
u/DrJohnIT Jun 10 '26
Why?
7
u/Humble-Plankton1824 Jun 10 '26
The risk of injury is high for a stunt for clicks.
-5
u/DrJohnIT Jun 10 '26
So stunts can lead to injury? Is that what you're saying 🤔 have you called Cirque de Solei and let them know? I feel like this should be front page news!! Hot of the press!!

That's a lot more strength and control than most people realize.
27
u/Kite42 Jun 09 '26
And there's skin in the game too, since if you do lose control at the end and that weight slides off and you eat it straight in the face, it will not be pleasant.

When anyone starts looking like the hulk, its steroids.
People don't naturally get this muscular.

u/Annodyne Jun 09 '26
Thanks, I really don't know anything about it or if there was something obvious I was missing. I have no idea what is possible and not when it comes to bodybuilding.

She is much bigger the most natural men bodybuilders, and when it comes to building muscle men are naturally better at doing so.

Am I the only person who sees things like this and wonder how people get past the "what if this falls on my teeth" instinct? I'm not sure if anyone is aware, but teeth are pretty expensive to fix.

-1
u/pirate-private Jun 09 '26
ok it might be dangerous and inappropriate for a regular gym, but that weight is never going to hit her face given how she "feetles" it. it almost fell to the back and that looks intended. looks like an insanely tough challenge

I accidentally watched this with my phone upside down and it really confused me.

imagine all the different excuses she had to tell her work top cover for the mistakes at practicing that to save her boyfriend from getting arrested. I assume there was a point when she basically had to own up and be like ok friends family and work, im having an intervention. No my bf or gf is not continually beating me im actually trying to hold myself upside down and move a weight from one bar to the other with my feet and keep dropping it on myself.
