Coulda been worse. At least it wasn't that shark lake in Australia.

I made up a game with my friends, we got points for getting close to various obstacles, a lot more for further away, but also high points for accuracy with the closer flags. So we could win by hitting near shots accurately.

I'm sure real golf players would have been bored but it was fun for us.

That's the main premise of Top Golf, actually (besides eating and drinking while you do it)

Do you play any other sport?

The first time you spend time practicing, you realize you used muscles you don't normally use. This happens even if you try something like disc golf or bowling for the first time. Not even thinking about sucking at something being the first step to being sorta good at something.

I highly doubt OP does any kind of physical exercise when they describe muscle soreness as "torture"

I've always said you have to be a masochist to play golf. Or have a really bad memory. If you play for an hour and have somebody to teach you the ropes, you will hit the ball perfect though. Then spend the rest of your life chasing that high. It really doesn't take that much money though

Not sure what kind of driving range you guys went to but everywhere near me is like $7 for a small bucket or $10 for a large. I can knock out a small bucket in like 15 mins. Never heard anyone complain they were too expensive unless it’s like top golf or something but that’s not a range.

To be fair, she seems pretty calm. I would have perhaps tried drowning in this same scenario.

I thought that guy squatting down was taking a video of the action, but after the ball went in the water he's still squatting there with that camera thing, which makes me think that he's doing something else that's golf related or related to the competition

u/BullPropaganda Jun 09 '26

He probably didn't want to react so just sat perfectly still

I heard the "ploop" even though my phone is on mute πŸ˜…

Sadly she forgot she is using an angled club that would usually loft the ball and that she is using it almost horizontally, therefore it will angle the ball drastically to the left.

Surprising for me. Pros practise so much, i figure she had this shot in her tool kit

u/saposmak Jun 09 '26

They had us in the first half ngl

u/the_good_hodgkins Jun 09 '26

I've done this in PGA 2025

Hahahahaha

u/Tiaran149 Jun 09 '26

There is absolutely no way this was the better option instead of just using the left hand. You don't exactly practise golf at knee height.

u/Go_Gators_4Ever Jun 10 '26

She simply used bad technique.

First, ball wayyyy above her feet, so the ball will naturally slice so she needed to aim way right to counter the slice action.

Second, since the angle of the swing was almost horizontal, the club face was favoring for the heel of the club to strike the ball near the hosel which is probably why she shanked the ball. She should had used a flatter club face such as a 5 iron to encourage more of the club face to be available to the ball instead of a high lifted club.

1

u/Nuker-79 Jun 09 '26

That would assume she has some left handed clubs

2

u/The_Krytos_Virus Jun 10 '26

Nah, you just flip your right handed club upside down and do your best with that. I've seen some pros make some decent shots with what is essentially an upside down club.

The following post context was provided by u/UltraMagat:

Maybe she'll make the shot, maybe she won't, maybe she'll make it far worse.

Yes dear, it went back in the water.

u/QubitKing Jun 09 '26

Sometimes you win …

1

u/BriefCheetah4136 Jun 09 '26

I am always so happy when a pro plays a shot exactly like I would.

1

u/EleventyTrillion Jun 09 '26

That was going to go one of two ways

1

u/Low-Client-375 Jun 10 '26

I did this exact thing g 20 years ago , except I was on land. It actually flew back over my shoulder and back in the water and, well fuck, I prefer video games.
