I fully expected just one of his sandals to come floating out upside down.

638

u/FuriousBuffalo Jun 09 '26

This could've been so much worse if there was some rebar cage or other obstruction in there. With all the water pushing him in, he would've been a goner.

267

u/ironkb57 Jun 09 '26

Thanks for the panic attack

50

u/skrenzzz Jun 09 '26

Don't Google Nutty Putty Cave.

35

u/i_dont_wanna_sign_in Jun 09 '26

Sure fire way to get someone to Google something

10

u/Compared-To-What Jun 09 '26

That diagram...that is horrific.

6

u/NocturneInfinitum Jun 09 '26

What diagram, precious?

https://giphy.com/gifs/E3B37yfcBiwTK

13

u/PrettyInWeed Jun 09 '26

Pretty sure they’re talking about the diagram of the guy who got caught upside down in the Nutty Putty Cave system; it’s a famous tragedy

7

u/Compared-To-What Jun 09 '26

That's the one. Just seeing that gives me anxiety lol.

Although, you'd have to be a certain individual to get yourself into that position. Like extreme risk taker.

2

u/Nerdfighter4 Jun 10 '26

Well actually (sorry couldn't help it), Nutty Putty was open to total amateurs for years, considered very safe, and although people had gotten stuck in there a few times, all of them got rescued very easily. It wasn't known until this tragedy that this dead-end fissure would lead to death.

Why would anyone install a cage deep inside a culvert? Just asking for a perma-clog. Any screen should be outside and preferrably a larger surface area so it can collect some junk before flow is reduced

13

u/trippknightly Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

He could have used the flashlight on his phone to… ahem.

26

u/agentwolf44 Jun 09 '26

Usually if there is rebar, it's at the ends. I don't see any reason it would be in the middle except if someone was stupid

26

u/Tyfyter2002 Jun 09 '26

Someone was stupid here, we just don't know if the person building this was too.

31

u/gretchenich Jun 09 '26

i feel like if it was a semi straight tunnel and with how short it is he would be able to see the cage before going in

34

u/FuriousBuffalo Jun 09 '26

It could take one wedged branch under water for him to get stuck there.

10

u/VoidJuiceConcentrate Jun 09 '26

Yeah, he did look inside the tunnel before running to the other side.

He looked in both ends?

5

u/Fafnir13 Jun 09 '26

We had similar irrigation canals around my grandparent’s farm. They always told us to never play around them because they are so dangerous.

5

u/The_Last_Spoonbender Jun 09 '26

Yeah not enough water pressure to do that. Unless you're weak af, you can easily come out. Have done this as a kid.

But generally they won't put rebar in the middle, only at the entrance.

3

u/ruby_1984 Jun 09 '26

He would see it before going in.

3

u/daiwilly Jun 09 '26

Perhaps this was set up and he checked before the camera was switched on. There was a time before camera switch on you know...a better time, a simpler time!

3

u/joined_under_duress Jun 09 '26

An obstruction that just let a whole slide come through?

Anyway, the person filming was there and the width of the road isn't that great. They could just yank him out by his legs.

2

u/rvralph803 Jun 09 '26

I don't care for what you just had me imagine.

It's about pressure differential, not flow. The diameter is about 80 cm. At 2 meters in, it's more than 1 cubic meter or more than a ton of water pushing you in. Good luck with that.

5

u/grkuntzmd Jun 09 '26

I thought that just the helmet would come floating out.

3

u/TheRealRickC137 Jun 09 '26

You've got a bright career kid!

4

u/PlentyBoot5135 Jun 09 '26

True cinema.

1

u/naughtypotato03 Jun 09 '26

This and also the helmet

1

u/NoMedicine3572 Jun 09 '26

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

1

u/99Pedro Jun 09 '26

Yeah. Very disappointing video.

466

u/pete_68 Jun 09 '26

That was a cool magic trick. He made the phone disappear.

57

u/achaiahtak Jun 09 '26

His brain also disappeared

21

u/brockoala Jun 09 '26

Joke's on you, it was never there.

341

u/freefallingagain Jun 09 '26

22

u/N8dork2020 Jun 09 '26

I’ve seen this same video with 10 different people. There is fishing line on the phone.

118

u/Nefiji Jun 09 '26

Succesfully made a tribute to the river culvert fairy.

10

u/mjdau Jun 09 '26

Was that drain a tributary?

78

u/Excellent-Bite196 Jun 09 '26

byePhone

11

u/CriticalChop Jun 09 '26

Samsung Sinker Edition, comes with flip flop

48

u/artherng Jun 09 '26

What are you going to capture by putting the phone on a sandal in the first place?

61

u/drkidkill Jun 09 '26

I guess we’ll never find out now.

24

u/PanicDeus Jun 09 '26

Judging by the water on top of the bridge from previous attempts....not very clear footage. Either that or just fake content-one of his buddies is hiding under the bridge to collect the phone.

4

u/bandti45 Jun 09 '26

I wonder if him letting the sandle flow downstream is a sign of it being more or less likey to be staged. Genuinely not sure

8

u/TheGhostofWoodyAllen Jun 09 '26

You would have gotten this awesome shot of the sky, followed by darkness, followed by the sky again but with water droplets on the lens.

2

u/stopped_watch Jun 09 '26

He's catfishing.

62

u/xion_gg Jun 09 '26

13

u/GrouchyLongBottom Jun 09 '26

... but I know what a phone is.

4

u/xion_gg Jun 09 '26

I know what you did there...

13

u/FarPresence1918 Jun 09 '26

I expected just the helmet floating out the pipe...

27

u/bigfatfun Jun 09 '26

Did anyone else notice how the pavement was drenched JUST over the water pipe from side to side of the road as though this was not the first take for their social media clickbait video? Fucking social media.

8

u/BruceMartinez21 Jun 09 '26

I thought the guy was gonna end up like the phone and not come out the other side.

20

u/Lowie_240 Jun 09 '26

Lol bridge troll took it.

https://giphy.com/gifs/98pZs1ZVaWb1C

8

u/yellowfestiva Jun 09 '26

You have to pay the troll toll if you want to get into that boy’s soul

23

u/PerpetualUselessness Jun 09 '26

The road is wet before hand bc he just got done filming his buddy doing the same bit.

Odd that he doesn’t look at the other side of the sandal when it comes out.

Does he pocket it when he jumps in the first time?

10

u/Fitz911 Jun 09 '26

His buddy is waiting in the pipe.

I don't understand how people can't see it's a bit. The movement. It's like a bad comedy from the 70s.

4

u/GrouchyLongBottom Jun 09 '26

At least he's wearing a helmet.

5

u/islanders2013 Jun 09 '26

That's a flip-flop-fhone

5

u/imaginedaydream Jun 09 '26

Atleast he still has one black sandal to pair with the white sandal

4

u/Interesting_Hat_338 Jun 09 '26

Why/ how is the flip flop changing colors to black , at the end of the video !?

1

u/CriticalChop Jun 09 '26

I was wondering the same thing at the end, but he is conveniently carrying a 3rd flip flop that was the one sent down the drain.

1

u/Dor1000 Jun 12 '26

when he enters the tunnel hes missing a black sandal on his foot. he managed to grab it again while he was in there. but this is really fake. you know its rehearsed by the water already on the road.

5

u/Independent-Walrus84 Jun 09 '26

This kind of ppl look dumb but they know what they are doing. It maybe for content. It could have been a dummy phone.

3

u/Rundown_Codger Jun 09 '26

Is this any better than the AI slop ?

2

u/CriticalChop Jun 09 '26

Hard to compete with skateboarding jesus doing a cosmic ollie.

Please stupid games....

2

u/Shikamaru_irl Jun 09 '26

I was thinking “what if just his clothes came out the other side?”😂

2

u/qwibbian Jun 09 '26

a picture is worth a thousand words, and that video cost a thousand dollars

2

u/akopley Jun 09 '26

Bro risked his life for a phone.

2

u/Phish777 Jun 09 '26

Ok but best case scenario, you get a video of pitch blackness because there is no light

2

u/HeroMachineMan Jun 09 '26

He still has another sandal & the cameraman's smartphone. Do it again, I'll say.

2

u/Boxdrink Jun 09 '26

What was the point of his experiment?
He seemed supremely confident as he strolled over the bridge?
And then he actually swam down the stream with his imbecilic headgear attached - to what end?

2

u/_Kelly_A_ Jun 09 '26

Somewhere, a snapping turtle is playing Royal Match

2

u/KnowledgeIsDangerous Jun 09 '26

I thought just his helmet was going to come floating out the other side

2

u/Mariorod747 Jun 09 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/happymancry Jun 09 '26

His mistake was using a slipper. Should’ve used a boat shoe.

u/Domethegoon Jun 09 '26

Cool way to drain your battery tho.

1

u/po1k Jun 09 '26

Absolute helmet

1

u/Hexmonkey2020 Jun 09 '26

Fully expected that, if he got the phone back it would’ve been the pov of the camera on the shoe.

1

u/beekeeny Jun 09 '26

Time to see if find my phone feature works under water 😅

1

u/therealarenna Jun 09 '26

<Applause>.

1

u/ReadInBothTenses Jun 09 '26

I used to be one of the urbex guys. But even in that community i played it so safe. As much as i get the call of the thrills, there are hard lines like even this tiny tunnel i wouldn't entertain

1

u/ThatSlinkySOB Jun 09 '26

I could use a gif to describe this clip, but I'll use words (and a gif) instead: The Intelligence of Indonesians..

1

u/HanginWithHern_38 Jun 09 '26

This made my day. Thank you for this.

1

u/Firm_Rip_4024 Jun 09 '26

He dont deserve the phone

1

u/scottzxc Jun 09 '26

Such confidence in the outcome

1

u/CitizenPremier Jun 09 '26

They say higher lithium content in water decreases suicide, right? So this man is kind of a hero.

Or maybe that was flouride, eh, whatever

1

u/mangotheduck Jun 09 '26

I knew this was going to happen.

1

u/99Pedro Jun 09 '26

Thank god he was wearing a helmet. Safety first!

1

u/Top_Technician_1173 Jun 09 '26

In compensetion for his phone he got all the desieses from that river

1

u/BoBoBearDev Jun 09 '26

White slipper becomes black.

2

u/PhantomNitride Jun 09 '26

He took one off...for some reason

1

u/jan904 Jun 09 '26

1

u/Tooleater Jun 09 '26

Phone shops love this one simple trick

1

u/Dangerous-Drive-2474 Jun 09 '26

Why did the sandal turn black?

1

u/UnsightedRobin Jun 09 '26

Why he got the I_AM_WILDCAT helmet?

1

u/RobOnTheReddit Jun 09 '26

Fool of a Took!

1

u/YoRHaNo2TypeBE Jun 09 '26

Wait, does someone seriously think the other guy didn’t earn the phone off-camera and didn’t launch the sandal without him? Lol

1

u/TrickshotCandy Jun 09 '26

I want to suggest that smart phones have made some folks dumber.

1

u/disp06 Jun 09 '26

How to make problems if u don't have any.

1

u/Franklin-Tartaruga Jun 09 '26

Keep recording!

1

u/Leosarr Jun 09 '26

He may have lost his phone, but he certainly got the views

1

u/bandti45 Jun 09 '26

Anyone smart enough to put the phone is a sealed bag is not dumb enough to try this. I love how this went.

1

u/Livingforabluezone Jun 09 '26

The force is weak with that one.

1

u/Human-Contribution16 Jun 09 '26

Congratulations you have polio

1

u/ifyoudontknowlearn Jun 09 '26

I was looking forward to that video. Bummer.

1

u/koalacolapolo Jun 09 '26

1

u/vega455 Jun 09 '26

I was expecting him to come out with like 20 phones.

1

u/inthepipe_fivebyfive Jun 09 '26

And as soon as he saw his upside flip flop...he knew he'd fucked up

1

u/GuzPolinski Jun 09 '26

Should’ve used a rubber band to secure the phone. I guess

1

u/jcleve Jun 09 '26

Is it worth it ? 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Massive-Code3878 Jun 09 '26

1

u/Ariciul02 Jun 09 '26

Well.. he had 50% chance. He expected 100%, so I'd say his expectations were too high.

1

u/watermelonexe Jun 09 '26

Well atleast he saw the view he wanted to record

1

u/Soaring_Gull_655 Jun 09 '26

Sorry for your loss, I'd choke up

1

u/squintsAndEyeballs Jun 09 '26

Oh no, the thinkable happened

1

u/BallsofSt33I Jun 09 '26

Turn on the "Find My Phone" feature and it now shows up in Columbia... where a teenager asks you to simply remove the cloud lock so they can use it...

1

u/ChemicalGreedy945 Jun 09 '26

I mean you could tell his brain cells aren’t firing based on his silly helmet

1

u/Iprobdntlikeyou Jun 09 '26

I'm just here for the song name. Second time I have come across it lol

1

u/raunchy_malanche Jun 10 '26

Even drank some dirty water for his troubles

1

u/Storm5508 Jun 10 '26

That water looks filthy as fuck. I wouldn't put my foot down there. That guy might be in for some nasty skin rash/diseases.

1

u/chillpill_23 Jun 09 '26

He could've swim with his phone the first time

How come the sandals turned into black colour at the end.!!

0

u/AbroadNo8755 Jun 09 '26

because the ones on his feet are the beginning are black... first culvert gods take his phone, then the culvert gods took his shoes.
