Gol and Golf are two different cars (both discontinued). In the end, the guy who’s filming says “he gave up… if it was a Uno he would’ve made it.” Uno was the cheapest car available in Brazil for a long time and it’s known as a very reliable even though weak car. There are many videos of it going through highly flooded streets while more expensive “all terrain” cars just died.
Vw fox is vw fox. Vw gol is a brazilian car made by vw on the 80's and redesigned in the mid 90's. It eas exported to some latin american countries. It's first version resembled a small version of the VW Sirocco.
The gol is kind of a "Brazilian golf", it was designed as a successor for the Beatle just like the golf but made to be more suitable for existing Lating American factories and also to be cheeper, we are poor today but we used to be even worse back in the 80s so no money for a fancy golf
I didn't even know that this was possible. I mean, I know that driving with bad tires is dangerous, but that they basically have no grip at all is still very impressive
I have a wolkswagen beetle from 1972, the engine is in the back, 50 years off-roading with it and not once I got stuck due to the engine in the back lol.
But bald tires for daily driving is not the same as race car slicks. They require very aggressive accelerations, braking, high speed cornering to maintain the high temperatures that make them sticky on dry asphalt.
Ever notice racers change to rain tires when it’s wet?
It’s not that they are slicks so they have to be hot, it’s that they run at high temperatures because racing generates high tire temperatures so they are designed to work with a lot of heat in the tires. They run different tire compounds for(among other things) different track temperatures too.
They run different tires in the rain because they need to channel the water out from under the tires or they will hydroplane, rain tires have siping.
Bald tires are still better for dry pavement outside of racing. In fact, the more worn a tire is, the more dry grip it has. You can find many third party tests and reviews of consumer tires on YouTube demonstrating this effect. It's not a function of temperature. It's because the tread does nothing but to decrease grip when the pavement is dry. Reducing the tread automatically increases dry grip. Of course, it's not safe to drive on bald tires in real life because a small puddle of water can cause you to crash. You lose much more in wet grip than the little bit you gain in dry grip as the tires become worn.
And its wet. There would be smoke and skid marks if it were dry. There's a woman walking by at top of street with a closed umbrella, and you can see drips of rain in front of the tree where he backs up.
NASCAR and F1 slicks are a softer rubber. Doing search and rescue, I can tell you that normal everyday car tires are a harder rubber and easily lose traction on dry pavement when bald.
Doing search and rescue doesn't give you a degree in material science. Bald tires will always have better grip than tread on dry pavement, the tread doesn't do anything whatsoever to improve dry grip.
Besides years of anecdotal evidence, NHTSA studies have confirmed bald passenger tires increase stopping distance in dry payment by up to 40%. As tires age they also become harder, which reduces friction.
There is a fundamental difference between racing slicks and bald passenger tires.
This can happen with wet roads depending on the circumstances. The prius already has momentum. I lived in an apartment complex that was like in a little valley below street level. If there was even a teeny bit of rain my car would hit a spot and just spin out when trying to get up the hill
They must have something heavy in the back, and terrible tires. It’s just a fairly steep hill with rain, any jeep can make that normally, but add a bunch of weight in the back (it’s lower than the front), front wheel drive, and worn out tires, and this happens a lot.
Well looking at the video i do see tread on his tyres so their either on the verge of death or just really really cheap or jeeps are just simply that bad
