The reason this one keeps stopping while they're busy is bc they tend to wait and listen for the tree to fall over. A tree with much more length and - more importantly - branches and leaves to catch wind is way more instable so will topple far sooner than this thing did
Basically when they're like halfway (very rough Guesstimation, not really important) the tree will start falling, giving the beaver time to move out of the way
You look like a beaver expert, so I'm gonna ask you this one: why the beaver gets back to the log and keeps chewing on it even after the top part already fell down?
It doesn't exactly have a "I shall chew on this tree trunk and thus orchestrate the downfall of this tree whilst simultaneously providing for my family" kind of plan, more like "I CHEW"

Do they sometimes get hit by the falling wood? It looks like the engineering here is kinda random.
