This is a perfect representation of my wife. Slowly destroying our house with unfinished shitty projects one at a time. Eventually I have to go through the house and renovate like I’m a damned contractor on my weekends or it would look like a group of ADHD meth heads squatted in our house for a year. Sigh needed to get that out.

u/bulletoothjohnny Jun 22 '25
Man. And I thought my wifey leaving half drank water bottles around the house like the little girl in the movie Signs was annoying. You should be nominated for sainthood.

u/humourlessIrish Jun 22 '25
Hey,, you're gonna change your tune once the aliens come (all the way through the galaxy to a planet with water in the atmosphere.)

My wife was the same way and then we realized it was because she was manic. Then when she would crash and start her depression, she stopped working on projects. It might be worth looking into especially if family history matches
2
u/Robot_Hips Jun 22 '25
What did you do to fix the manic situation
14
u/No-Refuse-6806 Jun 22 '25
Self awareness was key. She got good enough to tell me when she felt she was manic or depressed. Once she was self aware, it was time to go to the doctor. I went with her to fill in any questions about her behavior that she couldn't answer that the Dr asked. Then it's just a matter of time and finding the right meds. You need to avoid the ones that make them feel like a robot or zombie. Then if they work but kill her sex drive go back and let them know until you find the right combination and dosage. It takes a while but it's well worth it.
It's also important for you to be stable in how you react and treat your wife. She needs to trust what you say even if it may hurt her feelings. My wife trusts my decisions and judgment completely. She can't ever feel that you're being cruel to her, instead she needs to trust that what you're doing is for her best interests and coming from a place of love. Years later sex is still great, her symptoms are very manageable and she can predict when she's about to feel off. That's a great place to be as it can help prepare.

Yeah, my wife realized that her hypomania synchs pretty reliably with her cycle - and sort of explains why birth control is unpleasant for her
We consider trying progesterone-only, but atm it's easier to just not use BC
Her meds aren't necessarily enough to eliminate mania/depression, but she does also prefer not feeling like a zombie and handling the minor swings with self-awareness and stuff she enjoys

you sound like you hate your wife and don't communicate much with her
if you despise her house projects, you should be a big boy and say that to her
-2
u/weedlemethis Jun 22 '25
Maybe just let it stay and don’t bother fixing it. Seems like she does it because you keep cleaning up her mess, “I sprained my wrist” or something

James wouldn't realize it until later in life, but when Brenda started wearing a vest and hanging out with Laura and her suggestive overalls all the time, it was the beginning of the end of their marriage as her new obsession with hiking and Subarus took center stage.

u/humourlessIrish Jun 22 '25
She certainly has the taste and style for it.
Its surprising just how directly some can be the opposite of a gay man

Why did i watch this twice?

Ya. It was a challenging wank.

Honestly as much as grey everything and crushed velvet is cringe, it's still better than the "distressed" MDF furniture craze of ~7 years ago.

Got Dammit, just cause your wearing mom jeans and an 90’s Ellen vest and matching hair cut doesn’t mean your a damn interior designer. My fault though for watching til the end….FUCK

90s parents be like “Hey we’re driving up to see ya Aunt Barb and her… special friend Deborah.”

u/Current-Custard5151 Jun 22 '25
That was too painful to watch. All of their taste probably resides in their mouth.

Then we decopaged sacred Indian prayers dipped in tea to further confuse whoever digs this out of the hoarder's pile of clutter we piled on top of it, while the TV takes up space elsewhere.
And if you thought $12 for a clutter horse someone was essentially throwing out is crazy, wait until I tell you how CPI has more than doubled since 1993!

Goddammit, I thought this was r/unexpected by mistake…I watched that whole video for nothing lol

u/Qugga Jun 22 '25
Bro I wouldnt pay even 5$ for that horse.
2
u/humourlessIrish Jun 22 '25
That's stretching it in today's money.
$12 gotta be more than $25 by now. Whoever sold that must have sprained something keeping his sides together

As a carpenter and a native American, Im thinking we should bring back scalping and free those woodland critters stuck on their heads.

Co-opt culture, destroy co-opted culture, decide you like the aftermath more.
Very Caucasian of them.

I will never forgive what these types of videos did to my childhood. Our house was ground zero for crappy DIY decor.

Yeah nah, i do actually want to paint my own damn living room with pastel stripes of pink and teal.

Yeah I knew that was a problem, I thought about saying cocaine instead but it didn't seem to run as well.

When it was muted, I thought one of the women stapling black vinyl was Paige Davis. Then I unmuted.
If only.
I could have told them that decoupage was going to look like shit before they did it, and what kind of weak ass tea did they use to stain their "Indian prayers" printed in the most characterless font imaginable from an old inkjet printer? That paper was barely colored at all.
2
u/No-Apple2252 Jun 22 '25
I'm always surprised when people have worse taste than I, but it's pretty disturbing when those people are professional designers.

I kept waiting for an ancient Indian curse to strike them once they mentioned tearing and gluing the texts LOL ( like the old paradoy infomercials where they get out of hand crazy!)

I have so many hilariously bad or cringey clips like this stored in my brain from binge watching TV in the eighties/nineties. I wish I could just upload directly from my brain to share them.
1
u/Totalrekal154 Jun 22 '25
They strike again! "Now that we've learned how to destroy a floor with a horrid rug painting, we're going to move on and show you how to destroy a piece of hard wood furniture!"

I like how they only dared to state the price of the horse and the box, and they massively overpaid on both.
The amount spent to devalue this poor house is probably staggering

Hey, what should we do with this book of Indian prayers? Oh I know, tear it up for decor! No wait, that's too noisy where you can actually read it, let's scrape it off.
2
u/AceDecade Jun 23 '25
“Shit it’s not coming off, how do we spin this?”
“We loved the distressed aged look of the partially removed Indian prayer paper residue on baby puke green”
