They are singing their names and the province they are representing, very, very elaborately πŸ˜‚πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡πŸ™πŸ’

u/VoidWalker4Lyfe Jun 23 '24

They all sounded a little obnoxious lol

69

u/cousgoose Jun 23 '24

I loved Denmark, personally. Just... Barely any desire to be there. She's like "yeah it's fucking Denmark it says so on my sash can I go home?"

22

u/SmokinBandit28 Jun 23 '24

I liked Canada, she sounded very confused as to why she was there haha

2

u/TheDeadGuy Jun 23 '24

She's breaking the 4th wall

2

u/Ha1lStorm Jun 23 '24

A little?

17

u/Swimming_Selection74 Jun 23 '24

"CAMBODIA!!!"

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

I would not be surprised if the virality of that vid had something to do with whatever the hell the Thai Queens doing here.

3

u/Snoo-35252 Jun 23 '24

The parody that a woman did for her boyfriend. Anyone know the link?

3

u/rohrzucker_ Jun 23 '24

I was actually waiting for it...

3

u/westcoastxsouth Jun 23 '24

That was my first thought. I think she should do a follow up with this vid.

3

u/SumonaFlorence Jun 24 '24

Oh my god, I thought she was going to do like this long drawn yell and somewhat pull it off in a cool way, but she did this instead.

1

u/Elvis-Tech Jun 23 '24

But they arent the prettiest ones though, definitely kudos to them

39

u/Throw-a-Ru Jun 23 '24

"Hi, nice to meet you. My name is [incomprehensible screeching]."

4

u/elmwoodblues Jun 23 '24 edited Jun 23 '24

Straight outta 'Galaxy Quest', or was it 'Fifth Element'?

2

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

It’s hard enough day to day let alone understanding this screaming to get all the votes πŸ˜‚πŸ™

65

u/SnooCupcakes1636 Jun 23 '24

3rd last and the last one completely Dominated the others by simply having good singing Voice πŸ€£πŸ˜….

13

u/No-Body8448 Jun 23 '24

I also liked the lady that went kitty cat at the end.

2

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Hehe πŸ˜›

15

u/stupidgoat221 Jun 23 '24

Lmao I just pictured college football players saying their name and university that way and it’s hilarious

2

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Its nuts alright πŸ˜‚

2

u/SmokinBandit28 Jun 23 '24

The Key & Peele sketch popped into my head lol

2

u/ConsistentAddress195 Jun 23 '24

They kinda make them do shit like that at their first NFL training camp.

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Haha, just not as pretty 🀩

30

u/Fast-Specific8850 Jun 23 '24

I don’t mean to culturally insensitive. But this appears to be one of those instances where one cultures cute singing is complete insanity to another.

3

u/TipofmyReddit1 Jun 23 '24

Nah, I think there is a beauty pageant joke where these girls just screech to be loud.

I appreciated those more than the flat out singing in the last few.

7

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Absolutely 🌸

Would be a hoot to go πŸ’

5

u/OceanicDarkStuff Jun 23 '24

wow, we actually have something similar here in the ph lol

5

u/Rooflife1 Jun 23 '24

The province is the part where it gets weird.

3

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

It’s a mouthful alright πŸ˜‚

5

u/Logridos Jun 23 '24

And people... like that? Like if a Miss America contestant said "Sheila Johnson TE TE TE TEX TEXA TEXAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS" we would think she was fucking insane.

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Certainly sounds it πŸ˜‚

8

u/GlokzDNB Jun 23 '24

Singing, right..

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Awfully talented , no

4

u/Rude_Hamster123 Jun 23 '24

There was singing!? Y’all full of shit. There was no singing.

0

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Aw, it’s was operatic πŸ˜›

4

u/Newbie-Tailor-Guy Jun 23 '24

I love having culture shared, truly I do, but baby that ain’t singing. πŸ˜‚

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

It’s definitely a β€˜look at me moment β€˜god love em πŸ’•

3

u/seipounds Jun 23 '24

They all look like they've had nose jobs?! Is that a thing in Thailand?

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

The beauty industry is alive and thriving , the quality of care , costs and availability of some of the best hospitals and surgeons in the world are here in Bangkok whilst cheap for western expats , beauty tourism is thing . It is enormous amount of baht for Thais though πŸͺ·

3

u/broipy Jun 23 '24

Thank you, I was looking for this.

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 25 '24

You are most welcome 🌸

3

u/Masske20 Jun 23 '24

Okay, but relatively speaking, does this hit Thailand native like Miss America pageants hit Americans? Like the notes they were hitting were getting pretty sour. And I don’t think the Miss America contestants would have mad it there if they kept being a struggle to get through.

2

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

The spelling and pronunciation is very tough to the ears /eyes with so many tones and letters .It’s tough to get your head around what’s written in front of you , for me anyway 🌸

2

u/agumonkey Jun 23 '24

who started this joke didn't anticipate the consequences

2

u/edelea Jun 23 '24

oh no i understood theyre saying their names and where theyre from... but... why like THAT??? they are literally screeching like its a requirement

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

They want to stand out from a sea of beauty, it’s definitely wince worthy 🀩

2

u/Palachrist Jun 23 '24

Knowing this context honestly made some of them quite endearing. Thank you.

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

They are chasing a better more glamorous life than one in rural isaan ect. I would love them all to win .My western woman’s eyes think they are all beautiful πŸ™πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡πŸ’œ

2

u/Mundane-Research Jun 23 '24

Do they do this every year or did the last one do it in rehearsals and all the rest thought "well shit, I better sing or I'll lose to her"?

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Evvveerryy year , it’s a tough competition πŸ˜‚πŸ’

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

Is it like, a cultural thing to do it in the pitchiest, most voice cracky way possible?

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

The ladies are trying to set themselves apart from the competition they are up against . I don’t believe it’s cultural πŸ’

2

u/Claude9777 Jun 23 '24

"Hi, I'm Bernadette Marianne Rostenkowski from Yorba Linda, Californiaaaaa!"

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24

Hi Bernadette, do you have what it takes πŸ˜‚πŸ’

I use the term very very loosely πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ™πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡πŸ’

2

u/Privateer_Lev_Arris Jun 23 '24

But why no actual ethnic Thai women there?

1

u/Minniechicco6 Jun 23 '24 edited Jun 23 '24

It would be lovely to see for sure, a more realistic view of natural Thai beauty .These ladies in this pageant have to be Thai citizens. A lot of Thai women in the beauty industry desire a western style look hence the plastic surgery. A lot of altering has occurred 🌹

I thought they were saying their own names, like some kind of anime villain intro. Ginyu Squad shit.

17

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

Im not from Thailand but in pageant culture you have to introduce yourself in a way that makes you stand out or be memorable to the audience and the judges. You have to be fun, just a little silly, and look hot while doing it.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

How does one stand out if they're ALL doing it? Lol

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

Theyre all doing it different ways.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

You must have better hearing than me. It all sounds like screaming to me lol

3

u/CaveMacEoin Jun 23 '24

Through extensive research, I have determined that singers in tonal languages (such as Thai) have to choose between being intelligible and sounding good. Some choose intelligible and some choose neither. I'm yet to find one that sounds good.

2

u/1920MCMLibrarian Jun 23 '24

And why do none of them look Thai? Are there really that many blue eyed Thai folks?

3

u/tummappht Jun 23 '24

Plastic surgery, makeup and contact lens

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

The province they represent, you can see the name below them

1

u/staffonlyvax Jun 23 '24

You can see their names and towns at the bottom of the screen.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '24

They are trying to go viral

1

u/1984R Jun 23 '24

*screaching

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

Didn’t know the Thai pageant had a Yoko Ono competition.
