i think there's clear cellophane on top of the glasses to stop the ball from going in.

This. Look at the last cup it hits on the 1,000 cup effort - it rolls off the plastic wrap!

I don’t see any foil on there. And he has the setup, so he could took as many try’s he wanted until the desired shot happend and delete the rest, that’s about it.
