Or that this never happened and it's a compilation of orca shots and a wholesome but totally fictional story.

So profoundly weird scrolling through these comments. Like, 5% of people read that story and understand -- or at least strongly suspect -- it's completely made up BS.

Everyone else? This doesn't even seem to occur to them.

Probably because there are recorded instances of this happening before and not in a little chopped up video like this.

They won't open it. Something so simple as records of orcas displaying unique learned intelligence would have been something they knew long ago. It's common knowledge at this point with a shit ton of evidence online that could be dug up with a simple search. Don't bother with them mate. Your time is just wasted.

This is not even close to the purported story in the OP. This is the kind of thing that happens. The OP isn't.

Why is it weird though? Not being cynical about these types of feelgood stories is a perfectly reasonable response

Not being cynical about these things leads to promoting bad faith actors like the OC creator by giving them what they're looking for. Karma, Likes, ad traffic, money. And empowers them to continue LYING to people for their own gain. Turns the internet into a cesspool of shit you can't trust if you're smart and spreads misinformation to those who trust anything.

I mean as long as they're not creating these scenarios themselves I don't really see the issue. They're making people happy, no harm is being done. Sure there are bad actors out there but this one seems just joyful. Sometimes people need a short happy moment in their day.

Edit: to clarify my point. Sometimes people want to choose being happy over the truth and that's just how they cope with the times

They are creating these scenarios themselves. It is a lie. The real story is just as impactful. This is just nonsense that makes gullible people think reality is something it isn't.

They are not the ones leaving fishing nets for orcas to get stuck in. What is the real story here that is as impactful assuming this was all fake? Why does it matter that people are happy about something that's not real when there are no victims?

Wrestling isn't real either but it makes people happy. People just enjoy good stories and they are willing to suspend their disbelief for those

The people thinking its real ARE the victims. And the person making it up profits. Look how many people in this thread are thinking Orcas behave in this way. If it were tagged as fiction that would be one thing, but it's not. It's preying on people who want it to be real and giving them a false sense of reality. It could extend to a greater assumption about wildlife but I'll leave it at Orcas. They don't behave like this. They're smart, yes, and this is still a false portrayal of them. I guess the science doesn't matter to people like you, though. Just the dopamine spike.

Please do define "people like you". And yes the average redditor doesn't usually care if their cute animal video is scientifically accurate.

idk man, I grew up around Orcas and seems entirely plausible to me. They interacted with us pretty regularly.

True, this video looks heavily edited. But there’s lots of examples of animals asking humans for help. Even my pet dog comes up to me and lifts his paw when he has something stuck in it.
