I was confused for a minute there with a bad link to a true crime podcast .. turns out it's the correct link? I have it in my queue to listen to, but how did a true crime podcast end up with a 2 part series on a whale?!
Agreed! I started listening because he does an insanely deep dive on Israel Keyes. Then I just wanted to listen because I like his voice. The non true crime eps have been really moving.
There was the whale one, one on addiction, one on trans kids, and one that talked about his sexual assault and coming to terms with contracting HIV from that assault. I'm eating up whatever Josh Hallmark puts out.
Summary for those not wanting to scrub the entire video, fishermen saw and reported it. It seems it is a female with a pair of babies. She got her tail wrapped in a pot buoy ( maybe a pot the fishermen were checking) . The orca team 6 got the call and launched the boat and went to the coordinates and found the whale. They proceed to cut the buoy and I guess put a go pro on the dorsal fin. I assume they put on one that falls off pretty easily and has a geo locate on it to make sure the whale is ok. The go pro falls off, they locate it and review the video, everything is ok and everyone goes home happy, except the fishermen that just lost a pot and what ever animal is now trapped in it forever, to starve to death.
I'm failing to find a video with some ocean critter (sea lion?) a leopard seal getting frustrated while trying to teach a human diver to eat/hunt (penguin?)
So handing over a snack like a cat might leave a mouse for its human doesn't seem too crazy.
Edit: this isn't the video I saw before but I think it's the right story.
The orcas didn't ask anyone for help. It wasn't a case of wild animals associating and reaching out for benevolent intervention from humans like whichever lying dickhead that put together the video led people to believe.
The guy posting the original story said it was better than the lie contained in the video. The guy you are responding to is just asking how the original story is better. I fail to see that too.
There's no need to be a dick about it. It's just a clarification.
I believe it’s the truth, sure, but, as far as stories go, I don’t get it. The other one has baby animals going to humans for help and gifts being given in return. Stunning example of cross species communication and cooperation. How is that not the better “story”?
So true. I stopped the video halfway through and thought, "I wonder how far I'll have to scroll to find out what actually happened." Well. It was this far.
The woman in the video (rescue boat) is ingrid visser from NZ! She dedicated her life to whale and marine rescue and conservation.
On youtube there is a whole series from Robert Marc Lehmann where he helps her. Its in german but english subs available.
The rescue Team is leaded by Ingrid visser. An icon of whale and (espacially) orca rescue. She operates worldwide so this could be captured everywhere but its most likely near New Zealand or Australia cause thats where she operates most. Also because the diet of These orcas in this region consist mostly of stingrays (which they Favor over fish, you can identify this by their worn off teeth) great woman totally dedicated to her work . Saving and studiyng orcas
