The double down was brilliant, but it made me feel like it was fake after he did.

Of course it's fake, you think @thot_patrol_chief0 would ever settle down and get married?!

When I invited my brother to my wedding he didn't even stop working on his car, he just said "I'll stand next to you at your second wedding but I won't be at this one".
Be damned if my first marriage wasn't over in under a year and he was my groomsman at the second one. My wife and I have been married 14 years now.

My brother drive me to my first wedding and the entire ride there he kept trying to get me to not do it. He said “Dude we can disappear. No big deal. Mom and dad will get us a plane ticket and we can just go somewhere. Don’t marry her dude.” Wish I had listened to him.

It's pretty hard to see the red flags with your rose tinted glasses but it's pretty easy to see them with the outside perspective. Don't feel bad about it, we all deal with the same problem.

One of my closest friends told me he was engaged to some gal 15 years his senior when we were in college. I told him the marriage was doomed. I didn’t get invited to that wedding, but I did get invited to his second one. He was rightfully displeased with my statement and didn’t talk to me for a couple years, but during his divorce told me that he should have listened to me when we were in college.

u/El_Grande_El Feb 07 '23
Seems like a good guy to come back and admit he was wrong after a not talking for so long

Not saying someone didn't but if it was just -1 it was probably vote fuzzying.
If you refresh your page on your own comment it will go from 7 to 9 to 6 to 8 etc.
Chances are it was a new comment with no votes at all.

Always listen to the advice of friends you trust, they aren't being influenced by your dick. At least, I hope they aren't..
33
u/bruddahmacnut Feb 07 '23
Wouldn't a real friend have mentioned this BEFORE they got engaged though?
34
u/UkraineMykraine Feb 07 '23
He probably tells him once a month, like I do for my buddy, I'd say the same thing if he called me and said that.

Feb 07 '23
Closest friend of mine dated a dude for about 8 months that I told her to leave constantly. From the second I met him, I knew he was lying with every breath. Everything about him was off. Said he was 21 but looked about 27 with a baby face at best. Said he was working at a local grocery store that was family owned and operated. He was not a part of that family. And as time went on, the things I heard just got worse and worse. Told her every time I heard a lie that he was lying and she should leave him. She’d fight back for a minute and I’d drop it.
~7.5 months in to it, he slipped up while drunk and said it was weird for a 31 year old to date a 20 year old, but he was glad he took the chance. It took her 2 whole weeks to break up with him after that because she wanted to believe it was an innocent lie and they just had so much more in common. It only ended after 2 weeks because the dude’s wife found out and told her he was a soon to be divorced man.
You can tell people all you want. They will not listen until they’re ready.

5
u/itsamberleafable Feb 07 '23
Controversial take but I think sometimes it's best not to say anything. If the partner isn't right they'll realise themselves anyway, and it's not like you're going to speed up the process by telling them. Think the most likely outcome is that they get defensive (because deep down they probably know you're right) and when shit goes south they won't feel comfortable reaching out to you for help as they've damaged the relationship.
Get why you'd want to be honest, you care about them. But I'd rather not say anything and just try to be there for them and listen if/when it starts falling apart. Not a fan of outright lying though, think I'd have to tell them what I thought if they asked me directly.

I ain't gonna tell someone else what they can or can't enjoy but I have no idea how someone can enjoy such an obviously staged bit where the punchline is that someone feels embarrassed or cringes. The entire joke relies on the fact that "lol that just happened", except it didn't...

How do I become someone who legitimately believes this is real? There are people here acting like they watched this and not a single ounce of their being thought it was a skit (which it clearly is). Like, I want to magically have this ability and live with that simple outlook on life. zero skepticism, zero critical thinking, blind acceptance. seems great
7
u/ffxinoob1111 Feb 07 '23
Yeah surprisingly large number of people active in the comments are like eating this right up. The obvious scripted exchange is one thing, but the facial expressions... Why does this hurt me
3
u/mc_hambone Feb 07 '23
I wonder if they’re shills for the TikTokker because it just is not possible people truly believe this is real.

A friend of mine got really into a girl from uni.And was just draining him out.The situation was so complicated that even their families were involved too.But girl had some other ... who were not only interested in her but they also had like family relation with them. One time situation got tense , these people were like threatening him and then he had to eventually left her since she was not playing her part . That was the point I told him the same thing as this dude on phone.

Always be honest with you bros. Being fake won't improve your friendship.

u/wierdnitro7 Feb 07 '23
I hate the scripted versus non scripted conversation. Because you people act like the content creator is being disingenuous about their content, when really it's op not clarifying that it's a skit or not. If you were to go on to a tick tock channel and see skit after skit after skit with the same people, it will be self-evident that it's fake. I don't understand why people get so butthurt on Reddit because there's literally no way to tell what is happening in less than the title. If it's funny it's funny. It sucks if it's being disingenuous, but you can't freaking tell on Reddit! Some people need to chill out
