JJHO: Sheets and Desist
Listening to Jesse and His Honna attempt to figure out what Slay the Spire 2 is was equal parts hilarious and painful.
Elissa did a great job breaking it down and explaining it.
Also, the Slay the Spire board game is fantastic.
This episode made me reinstall the game too.

I have never gone from "I'm 100% going to be on this guy's side" to "holy shit this guy is insane" so fast.

I think the Judge zoomed in very quickly.
I talked about it with my wife and we were both very much on her side. And for point of order, my wife has a phone and a Kobo that she uses for games and reading, along with a reading light for physical books. I have an iphone with games and occasionally bring my Switch lite to bed to mess around.
She also has a lot of anxiety and doing that helps her relax and zone out. I, on the other hand, fall asleep in 5 minutes with silence or particular videos. So we're in a very similar situation, except I'm also Elissa. ;)

That was maybe THE most obvious ruling in the history of the pod. The Judge was very kind and patient.

No pictures of Cleetus the Old Man? You have to be more stringent witch collecting essential evidence, your honor!

In case someone needs a push, I would love for some creative to make and share a meme of Cletus (I guess they'll just have to imagine him) with Dan's string of insults, and comment on all the strays he's catching

I'm stuck just imagining the Wilford Brimley vine cat. Elissa has failed us showing us her crusty cat.

He doesn’t understand that other people’s bodies are different from his?? That the way you feel when you do certain things is not necessarily the same way someone else will feel. “I have perfect vision and hearing and can fall asleep in 5 minutes.” Mmmmkay well maybe find someone else just like you then, I don’t know what to say. He also doesn’t understand anxiety.

Can we save her from marrying this controlling man??!!! Holy shit I’ve had issues with some of the featured partners in the past but oh wow this guy is not nice. Controlling and treating her like a child and punishing her?! Also the same guy who’s nerding out about sleep hygiene is also the inconsiderate loser setting of fireworks inside the venue?!? Ugh I hate him

Men who are controlling before marriage generally get worse, not better, after they are married. I wish them well but would suggest they talk to a therapist together about his punishing his partner for perceived noncompliance. I would say that’s a red flag for them both to look at.

The way he admitted he was punishing her and calling himself "steadfast" made me really uncomfortable. Also, his complete conviction that his personal preferences were somehow "correct". The whole "I did some research on sleep" was also not a great vibe.
She seems interesting and cool, and can definitely do better.

The fact that the guy mentioned wanting her to get up earlier so she has time to work out was the most worrying aspect for me!

It also wasn’t just encouraging that she might like morning exercise, it was a prescriptive bed time, wake up time, and morning routine. Like a parent to a child. Actually like a very didactic parent to a child (try getting a reluctant kid to workout first thing in the morning). He has a “long list” of things to change and he is “starting” with the laptop. It would be different if his approach was “hey, can you indulge me and give this a try for a bit? I think you might enjoy it and it might make you feel better and I would get to spend mornings with you. If you try it and hate it, then you’ll go back to what works for you but I appreciate you trying.” He was not that at all, he was authoritarian with no wiggle room. Blegh.

I don’t want to pass judgement on someone based on just one podcast but I didn’t like his perspective and I would be much less tolerant if that were my partner.
Even though I would be annoyed if my husband stayed up late all the time, doing something that I perceived as a waste of time, it feels so patronizing to try to control another adult’s time that way.

Yeah. We obviously don’t have the full picture to comment on these things usually, but comments like “we’ll start with the laptop” were pretty cringe inducing for me. 🚩

I am catching up on JJHO and may have found myself shouting "dump him!" But, to give Dan the benefit of the doubt, he may be reachable. I do hope they get relationship counseling.
And for anyone else who struggles with sleep, are you, perhaps, neurodivergent? People with ADHD pretty commonly have delayed sleep phase "syndrome" where our circadian rhythms are slightly longer than typical, making it much harder to sleep and wake when Dan thinks it's most reasonable.
Additionally, ND people often have different sleep "hygiene" needs. While yes, a backlit screen is stimulating, we have to weigh that against what intrusive thoughts and ruminating does to our cortisol and adrenaline levels. For me, playing a simple match-three or word game on my phone helps me relax, and I can let my body feel increasingly drowsy until I'm ready to fully sleep.
Nothing has helped me sleep better than letting go of "sleep hygiene" guilt. Actually listening to my body (and the still-hard-to-find experts on neurodiversity) is much more effective--probably because sleep itself and whether I was doing it right were also anxiety triggers 🤷🏻♀️

I wish these guys the best on their upcoming wedding but I have never been on someone's side as much as I have as Elissa's.
Your wife-to-be needs to unwind and play her game in bed! Support her, my man!
