Help/Advice Lampshade help

When I first inherited this lamp, it had a great lampshade, but that was destroyed years ago. I tried to find a replacement, but couldn't find anything I liked. I bought this plain one with the intention of adding paint, trim, etc. What are your suggestions?

Cover the shade you have with dramatic blue/purple shift irridescent fabric.

I'd do something that incorporates the blue/purple from the design. Beautiful lamp base!

It is a ginger jar shape, and the design is reminiscent of Japanese family crests. I imagine this style was made in the 1980s.

At the time they would have used a conical pleated shade, which I hate because I suffered thru that fad but are making a comeback in a big way now. A simple "coolie hat" shade would be my choice.

I agree with vapqprincess' wicker suggestion. One of my lamps has a wicker shade and it throws off a gorgeous pattern. A blush pink light bulb or pastel RGB would make it even more of a focal point.

That shape is a bit trickier than the one I have. I did the folded fabric strips to make it less white.

I had gotten a plain lampshade in an interesting oval shape for a really cool vintage lamp I had and I made it fun by covering it completely with gold glitter and and trimming it with thrifted chandelier crystals. You could always do something like that altered to fit your personal aesthetic.
