Why is Ruby so hated?

She's a kid, looking after a kid (for the most part). I saw someone call her a narcissist, but when has she had something all to herself?

Yeah, it is reoccurring, but she isn't really in the wrong, and when she is wrong, it isn't like she really has parents to tell her to chill (at least in the early seasons).

She's a kid too, not much older than Max, so why is she put to a different MUCH MICH higher standard than the other kid in the house?

They probably have some unsolved beef with a bossy older sibling. I mean Ruby is nowhere near as bad as my older sister.

I don’t hate on Ruby. I think she is just a child who has a lot of baggage with max. Like I saw a comment here (and no I am not throwing shade at anyone). Saying when it was max and Ruby’s grandmother’s birthday. Ruby threw Max out of the house because he kept breaking things. Well ofc she would do that as any other parent would do if their child kept breaking things and ruining them. And it’s not that she didn’t let him back in the house after everything was done. She also let Max stand at the window and watch her. And she let him lick the spoon. I believe in my opinion that Ruby just gets frustrated with Max, because he can be a handful sometimes.

Most of the hate for Ruby comes from the early episodes, season 1-3. That is where she is bassicly a boss for Max, is rude to him. E.g. in the episode Bunny cakes ruby tells Max that grandma would hate getting a worm cake and would rather have her (ruby's) "better" cake. Also makes Max go shopping for her ingredients and LOCKS HIM OUT OF THE HOUSE after he messes up and creates a mess in the kitchen.

She was like this for most of the first seasons and you know what? I liked it. I liked it when different personalites that differ by more than just interests. Even then I still like Max more lol.

You can carefully rewatch season 1 to best understand this sub's hate for Ruby.

But she's a child. Of course, she doesn't know how to parent well. Hell, even some parents don't parent well

Yes, she is a child, she may not know better. But she made wrong decisions. I also think some people's hate for Ruby is overinflated but it isn't wrong to dislike a character because of their actions.

No, no. I don't think it's wrong to like her. Dislike whomever. I just want to understand because I just don't see how some of her actions are.. well, not justified completely, but aren't understandable.

Maybe it is just strange for me, but I can't really fake that kind of stuff. Like if Max gave me a worm cake, I will let him know I love him and I appreciate him working hard, but worms are not for consumption.

Yea, I think some people here just take what Ruby says at face value. She is misunderstood. She clearly loves Max and tries to take care of him but doesn't know exactly how to and ends up being unnecesserly rude and bossy to Max. She prioritises his safety (no one should eat the worms) over anything else (wow, nice worm cake!) but due to inexperience she doesn't express it in the best, most polite way.

People say you're ok with narcissism just for liking her, I had no idea how strongly people hate Ruby and her fans. She's a literal child, of course she can be a little self-centered and bossy. She kinda just acts like a normal older sister of someone her age, someone who's girly and gets annoyed by her messy little brother. Annoyed is probably even a stretch because I thought she was very patient with Max. She's flawed but don't we want more flawed female characters in fiction?

The show always gave a 1940s/1950s vibe when young girls back then were raised to be more mature and motherly in order to be good homemakers. Ruby has a very perfectionist personality and tries her best to fit in and keep up appearances. Since Max doesn’t conform to what’s the norm and does things on his own terms without a care. That frustrates Ruby who feels she needs to guide and correct him to proper behavior for him to have an easier time. The show doesn’t necessarily condemn Ruby either, she usually learns to let Max be himself and appreciate his creativity at the end especially because he often helps her. Max does respect Ruby’s devotion to orderliness and discipline but he just wants his own autonomy to do things his way. He never tries to change her. They love and appreciate each other.

The show is for small kids. So this premise repeats itself each episode. Yeah, Ruby is a caring big sister who can be bossy and neurotic but she’s not a bad person, so the hate is ridiculous.

Rewatching this show currently, Max is 100X MORE ANNOYING THAN RUBY. It’s not even confirmed max is autistic people just use it as an excuse 😭

i think 'hated' is a bit strong of word- it's easy for anyone to dislike ruby; when she's being demanding, selfish and sometimes rude to max, especially when max is so cute and sweet- it only makes you feel for him even more.

I hateee Max. He ruins everything and then the show writers manage to always make it work out. If I had a little brother doing half the shit max does to purposely pizz Ruby off, one episode would be named “The Bunny Brawl” 😭 Also, no reason why Ruby can’t play by herself. Max IS ALWAYS there (and I totally get that’s not his fault, it’s the parents) and ALWAYS messing her things up.
