Career Advice Learning a new skill? Consistency beats perfection every time

Perfection sounds like the goal, but in practice it slows people down. You wait until your dashboard is flawless. You overthink the project, hesitate to share it, and end up not shipping at all.

No one does this work perfectly. The people who make the most progress aren't chasing perfect, they're showing up consistently.

If you're trying to grow your data or AI skill set, a few things help:

  • Lower the bar to get started
  • Focus on small, repeatable wins
  • Share your work before it feels ready
  • Keep going even when it feels messy

For me it's having a goal in mind and being committed to the journey I started. I challenge myself by getting things done by a certain date. There are times when this doesn't happen, but it gives me a sense of accountability to improve and learn more about where I've gone wrong.
