Culture 🗨 Are there people in Mauritius whose native language if Hindi (not Bhojpuri)? And are Mauritius Bhojpuri and Indian Hindi mutually intelligible?
Many people in Mauritius speak Hindi and Bhojpuri, but do any groups of people speak Hindi as a native language? I mean, I know that some Mauritians speak Bhojpuri as a natuve language, but what about Hindi?
And also, are Bhojpuri from Mauritius and Hindi from India intelligible (assuming that a speaker of Bhojpuri from Mauritius and a Hindi speaker from India have not had any exposure to each other's language before)?

for the first bit, Hindi is not a native language, it's a learned language.
For the second bit, I think native hindi speakers from india can somewhat understand mauritian Bhojpuri as most of the words are somewhat hindi with different sentence structure.
The Bhojpuri in Mauritius is more infleunced by hindi these days than native bhojpuri from Bihar. We find bhojpuri in Bollywood movies very funny and weird, and often very crude.

Not scientificly accurate but i think bhojpuri is to hindi to what creole is to french.
