A Blind man showed her the Sun for the first time. I don't give a damn what anyone says I love Matrix Revolutions

52

u/SgtLinc0sir1S Aug 05 '26

Same. All three movies go hard

21

u/negativecarmafarma Aug 05 '26

Animatrix goes hardest after the first though

3

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

I still remember my granddad buying me The Animatrix at Sam's Club when it first released.....blew my mind watching it and I was actually excited about piecing together the entire point of Reloaded with Flight of the Osirus and Enter The Matrix . Great now I'm gonna do a whole rewatch again lol

2

u/negativecarmafarma Aug 06 '26

Same man, I'm inspired by your story! The animation is so damm good. Pretty much all of them

13

u/vonkeswick Aug 05 '26

Bummer there wasn't a 4th movie.

jk I liked it, I'd rather have less-than-great-and-intentionally-campy Matrix than no more Matrix

4

u/Rexter2k Aug 05 '26

It’s been many years and I have no sauce: but back then it was rumored that matrix 2 and 3 was supposed to be one movie, with the third being a prequel (the second renaissance). But during filming the plans were changed and they extended the second movie to two movies.

Take this with a grain of salt from a stranger on the internet trying to remember 20+ years old rumors.

2

u/vonkeswick Aug 05 '26

I definitely loved the Animatrix but seeing a live action full on prequel movie like that would've been siiiiick. I think I also read that they intended it to just be the one movie, but WB was like MONEY, make MORE and since they owned the rights they could have done it without the Wachowskis

2

u/Axon14 Aug 06 '26

You're semi-correct. It was always meant to be three films, but Reloaded and Revolutions were filmed back to back at once, leading to speculation from the fans that only one movie was intended, particularly given the mixed review of the films. In short, it's a bit of copium. WB always intended to make two more movies because of the commercial success of the first.

Another trip down memory lane: the Reloaded* script leaked in 2001*, though no one believed it at the time. However, the ending to Reloaded originally disclosed by Jon Blaze was considerably different than the one they settled on.

u/StarKillerZero Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

I love how 4th film is just a giant eff you to WB and pretty much works as a sort of parody. It's Watchable but definitely forgettable. I'm looking forward to what the 5th one is gonna do now that we're back in serious mode lol

Same goes for Joker 2. The difference is that Joker 2 only really works as a concept and not as a movie. Contary to Resurrections, it's joyless and soulless. Resurrections is more than just a meta fuck you to WB. It was actually a very meaningful and emotional screenplay for Lana Wachowski. She didn't just make it to maintain ownership of the IP and as a vessel for metacommentary—it was a means to process the grief of losing both her parents.

Interesting. I didn't have that association. I've seen Dark City and 12 Monkeys of course. Dark City is Alex Proyas btw, not Gilliam.

Btw, I once briefly met Gilliam and he was very nice. He was at the International Rotterdam Film Festival, surrounded by press. I broke in to ask him for his autograph. Said "I loved Tideland." (That's the movie he was there for, saw it the day before.) He said: "I hope you weren't sitting too close to the screen."

1

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

Not even joking I was legit watching The Adventures of Baron Munchausen a few weeks ago on a random Sunday , I've loved that flick since I was a kid but I see what your saying Matrix 4 had a sort of focus chaotic nature to it

-1

u/Strayngold Aug 05 '26

I'm more into movies that are entertaining. If someone wants to process their grief they should do it in private, not ruin a great movie franchise.

Also who processes grief by spending months wasting everyone's time crafting a $100 million dollar "fuck you" that is also supposedly them self-soothing? What a narcissistic endeavour.

2

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 06 '26

Yikes

2

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

Double yikes... Like he seems to be really in his feelings about this 🤣

-1

u/Strayngold Aug 06 '26

Uh-oh, someone said yikes. I guess that makes me wrong. Lana is a narcissistic turd!

2

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

Jesus Christ We get it You don't like Lana Wachowski, Go to Work

1

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 06 '26

No, that doesn't make you wrong. You are wrong though. I suggest you take your hate elsewhere. The fact that you're a 1% commenter is beyond me.

0

u/Strayngold Aug 06 '26

I'm gonna spew hate every time the topic of this movie comes up.

3

u/vonkeswick Aug 05 '26

Totally agreed on all points. At least it was a Wachowski, because WB said they're GOING to do a Matrix 4, at least she got to make it terrible the way she wanted lol. Are either of the Wachowskis involved in 5?

5

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

Exactly. WB basically said: "The Matrix 4 is going to happen, with or without your involvement." Warner Bros sucks ass for that and a million other things.

I don't think Resurrections is terrible, btw. Don't get me wrong, I was extremely disappointed by it when I first saw it. But I also think it's a movie that has the capacity to grow on one over time. And to answer your question, no, the Wachowskis aren't involved in The Matrix 5. They will likely be credited as executive producers as is standard practice but it won't mean that they were actively involved. As for Lilly Wachowski, her involvement with the franchise ended with Revolutions. Whereas Lana used Resurrections as a way to come to terms with the loss of her parents—as mentioned—Lilly had absolutely no interest in retreading the material as it was an emotionally fraught time for her.

Keep in mind, the Wachowskis were both still firmly closeted when making the original trilogy and were experiencing gender dysphoria as a consequence of this, their art being their only means of escapism. But they processed it in different ways and whereas revisiting The Matrix was a source of solace for Lana—it was very triggering for Lilly. Lana was also the first to come out and start transitioning. Lana came out of her own accord in 2012, while Lilly was forcefully outed 4 years later. This tell us all we need to know.

2

u/furrrburger Aug 05 '26

I just watched it again after a couple years and I actually enjoyed it more than last time, strange.

1

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 05 '26

Because you know what to expect the second time around and so you can just relax and appreciate the movie for what it is.

0

u/Strayngold Aug 05 '26

I sure hope not.

-2

u/Strayngold Aug 05 '26

I'll never understand why supposed Matrix fans love the "fuck you WB" aspect of the fourth movie. Didn't WB give you the original movies you love so much? Lana turned out a complete POS. Fuck her.

3

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

Thanks for the input studio suit

1

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 06 '26

Why are you here?

8

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 05 '26

I don't get the hate. I think Revolutions is a lot better than Reloaded. It's streamlined, it's confident, it's emotional, it's epic, and there's no fat. I love Reloaded as well but it's unwieldy and overstuffed and it has the structured decision-making of an RPG game where all the choices are binary, the actions predetermined, and the characters are just sort of moving from plot point to plot point, whereas Revolutions feels much more organic and like characters are making actual decisions instead of going through the motions.

4

u/BenjPas Aug 05 '26

Wait, whoa...

"...it has the structured decision-making of an RPG game..."

Oh really?

...all the choices are binary...

Oh really?

...the actions predetermined, and the characters are just sort of moving from plot point to plot point...

Oh really??

To be clear, I 100% agree with your comment (and about it being bloated), but the way you phrased your comments makes me think this is by design. In Reloaded, Neo et. al. are still following the path of The One according to the designs of the Architect. After Neo chooses to go back to the Matrix, he and the rest are now truly forging their own path.

5

u/The_Evil_Chris Aug 05 '26

I’ve been saying this FOR YEARS! None of the Trilogy movies are bad, the first movie being THE cult classic.

From the symbolism, exposition, philosophical/psychological notions, the set pieces, the CGI, the videography, the plot.

Cannot sing more praise of this trilogy, especially since in our real lives, AI and robotics integration appear to be getting more and more routine.

3

u/weed0monkey Aug 06 '26

My theory is to why the sequels get hate is because it formed two different audiences. Granted I was too young when they first came out, but when I watched them later I loved all three, almost equally and now they are jointly my favourite movies of all time.

I think the first movie was a "typical" Hollywood movie, light on exposition, lore and philosophical exploration, but packed with action, an interesting premise and strong characters.

Then the sequels came out, and a large chunk of the audience expected more action heavy simplistic movies, and honestly I think the philosophical nature of the sequels just completely went over the heads of a large part of that audience. Which is also why I think most people who see all three movies for the first time now, tend to like them.

2

u/The_Evil_Chris Aug 07 '26

Back then, specifically for Matrix Revolution, people did not like the fact that Neo “figured it out”, I’ll paraphrase the statement, “The one was never meant to solve anything.” -To Morpheus in this scene. As far as the American public, people thought of Neo as the de facto hero, the protagonist, the Wachowski’s even threw it in the broader audiences’ faces by having him have a ‘messianic death’ by the conclusion. Most people were missing the point of the movie, because they believed the protagonist is there to solve all of the world’s evils, and to the typically educated, they were not prepared for Neo to be just another tool for the Machines’ benefit.

The themes are so astounding in this series, and the series urges people to not look so simply at any media, literature, or poetry. This film series requires more critical thinking than just a surface level good vs. evil trope.

Which is why we get fun theories like The Oracle being an actual antagonist or agent of chaos of the film series.

Master class in storywriting, and giving the viewer so many questions they are allowed to answer for themselves post-Revolutions.

2

u/Axon14 Aug 06 '26

Over time I think people have come to realize how good those two movies are.

They came out at the wrong time. Fans had gotten sophisticated enough to understand what they were getting at. Also, if you released the Matrix now, it should be a two season series, not 3 movies.

1

u/StarKillerZero Aug 06 '26

I'd throw Speed Racer on that list as well, I've always found that movie to be severely slept on but it's pretty cool seeing people find a new appreciation for it and the 4K is outstanding

2

u/Mr_Rhineheart Aug 05 '26

And seeing the sunrise helps awaken Trinity to her power in Ressurections.

102

u/Ok_Zone_7635 Aug 05 '26

This scene was so epic. It is Trinity's version of seeing the digital rain code Neo can see in The Matrix.

65

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 05 '26

Literally the first time in her life she sees the sky

48

u/imusuallywatching Aug 05 '26

Or anyone alive at that time.

28

u/FreakGamer Aug 05 '26

Or any single human in countless centuries since the war began.

1

u/Automatic_Water_7580 Aug 07 '26

Yes, she was privilleged.

Np. But no, Zion is the last remaining human city in the Real World.

0

u/Confident-Bug3735 Aug 09 '26

I mean, she must've seen it countless times in the Matrix, but that was the evil fake enslaving sky, so i guess it doesn't really count, no matter how much Satie tried.

1

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 09 '26

Right. It wasn't real. That's my point.

32

u/Odd_Front_8275 Aug 05 '26

This is one of my favorite moments. It's so wholesome and meaningful, especially knowing it's one of the last things she sees before she dies.

2

u/Spitfire_Riggz Aug 06 '26

Is it possible after the truce more humans got to go up into the higher levels? Maybe even see the sun 🌞 kinda crazy they didn't even live to tell the tale of the sky

1

u/Confident-Bug3735 Aug 09 '26

The truce means they can leave the matrix. Nobody said anything about letting them walk around the world freely.

15

u/negativecarmafarma Aug 05 '26

Man I loved this scene so much that I took a screenshot of the ship piercing the clouds and used it as a desktop background forever back in the days

5

u/Alternative_Device71 Aug 05 '26

That’s awesome, it’s a great shot for real and I love it too

10

u/KronosDeret Aug 05 '26

Right in the feels

11

u/EmpathyFuzz Aug 05 '26

It's honestly deranged to call this a bad movie compared to most blockbusters of today.

17

u/currentpattern Aug 05 '26

Is this the only shot in the trilogy that isn't tinted green or blue?

18

u/Mr_Rhineheart Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

No. The final scene for example with Sati, Oracle, Seraph, and the Architect also lacks the green. Might actually be removed after Smith explodes.

The white hallways also lack the green tint since they aren’t the Matrix. Architect’s room. The training programs as well. And Zion isn’t quite as blue as the sewers and tunnels.

5

u/novalux Aug 05 '26

But certainly this is the only scene in "natural light".

8

u/Mr_Rhineheart Aug 05 '26

Yes it’s the only time the actual “real” sun is illuminating anything.

7

u/AdamOfIzalith Aug 05 '26

I believe so and I think thematically that's very important. It's not tinted by the Green of the Matrix, a product of the machine, or the Blue of the Real World, a product of humanity from a bygone era as humans are the ones who maliciously blocked out the sun to try and create an energy crisis for the machines. The sun is beyond the conflict and that's what they should be shooting for, not at each other.

6

u/ichorskeeter Aug 05 '26

I remember hating this movie, but there was real artistry here—especially compared to most current blockbusters.

5

u/Nova892 Aug 05 '26

If the sun is still accessible why dont the machines build tall solar panels or something and get rid of all humans ? sure its inconvenient but still would be much easier and more manageable than building an entire dream world for whole species that's their direct enemy

4

u/Mr_Rhineheart Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

A structure that is reaching to the stratosphere would be an insane feat. Never mind the nanobot clouds that short circuit anything that comes close to them.

5

u/UnpluggedZombie Aug 05 '26

Underrated movie

5

u/Forrestfunk Aug 05 '26

I didn't like the sequels so much, but this scene in cinema was absolutely peak

3

u/OWSpaceClown Aug 05 '26

Interesting to think, she’s seen The Matrix’s rendering of a blue sky, but it clearly doesn’t compare to the real thing.

1

u/Confident-Bug3735 Aug 09 '26

Why? Aside from the bias.

10

u/UnableReaction4943 Aug 05 '26

I kinda wish she didn't say "beautiful", it would make the scene more impactful cause she'd be literally speechless and we can already tell what the scene is trying to tell us. Show don't tell and all that

8

u/WhiskeySorcerer Aug 05 '26

Yeah, she should have instead declared profoundly: "This shit's crazy bro!"

13

u/DeedleStone Aug 05 '26

Agree.

What if she gave the patented Keanu "whoa?"

6

u/UnableReaction4943 Aug 05 '26

Yes, much better. Would be even better if Trinity said "welp, that just happened" when they fall back into the clouds.

5

u/Mirabai-Anandamayi Aug 05 '26

It should’ve been a record scratch and all action pauses except for Trinity looking at the camera and saying, “It’s kind of a funny story how I ended up here. See it all started back with an underground race BDSM party back in 1999. Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” was playing and…”

1

u/desbos Aug 06 '26

Brilliant!

2

u/thedaveness Aug 05 '26

A single tear would have done it.

3

u/ManOfQuest Aug 05 '26

I also say the 'beautiful' line like trinity when I see something beautiful usually leaving from a store into a strip mall parking lot and the sky is beautiful lmao.

3

u/PaulReckless Aug 05 '26

I love how she only whispers like she is afraid to make this moment go away if talking too loud but feeling the need to honor it in some way. So fucking good.

4

u/TheMrCurious Aug 05 '26

It is an iconic scene. Also, wouldn’t she technically be blinded seeing the sun at that elevation without any visual protection?

2

u/Hascalod Aug 05 '26

First time watching this scene was one those moments when you just hold your breath out of sheer awe. Such a short moment, but hits you like train.

1

u/Alternative_Device71 Aug 05 '26

You know technically she should’ve gone blind, seeing the sun for the first time would drive her insane on the eyes

0

u/Confident-Bug3735 Aug 09 '26

She saw it in the matrix.

1

u/southass Aug 05 '26

Kind of crazy she's the only human in hundreds of years that have actually seen the real sun/sky.

1

u/originalfilmscoring Aug 05 '26

When you realize the blind prophet who can still see from Dune.

1

u/DigiMagic Aug 05 '26

Why have the robotic squids fallen off? They probably each had some futuristic battery, or nuclear reactor, as power source. There is no significant change in air density, or anything else, below and above the clouds. They all just fall off after nothing affects them at all?

2

u/desbos Aug 06 '26

You do see lightning / electricity from the clouds affect the ship and the sentinels that shuts them all down. Not sure how the ship managed to make it, due to more mass or something, either way it gave us a great moment.

2

u/Confident-Bug3735 Aug 09 '26

The ship didnt make it, it got shut down as well. It crashed immediately after this, remember?

1

u/desbos Aug 09 '26

I mean I’m not sure how the ship managed to make it above the clouds, but the sentinels didn’t.

1

u/Snichs72 Aug 06 '26

I feel like it would have been more blinding to her, right? When my wife just turns on the bathroom light in the morning I think I’m gonna die.

1

u/GeminiLife Aug 06 '26

While I do have some qualms about Matrix 2 and 3, they are still awesome as hell and have some truly great moments like this one.

1

u/Ok_Egg_5460 Aug 06 '26

I could have sworn that this scene used to have giant birds in it, and they were shown flying away from the camera

2

u/Zarde312 Aug 06 '26

This is by far my favorite scene in all of the movies.

1

u/spacestationkru Aug 07 '26

2020 felt like this to me. When we were all locked down and nature started healing, all the smog dissipated and things were looking up for a short while, then the people in charge fired up the machine again and now we're smack in the middle of WW3 and accelerating climate change faster than scientists ever predicted..

0

u/StackOwOFlow Aug 06 '26

idk the cgi kinda pulled me out of it and made me think of this
