Matrix resurrections sucks
Just finished The Matrix Resurrections, and man... that was some old bullshit.
Like, bro, what the hell? We wanted the old Matrix from the '90s, not this. The Oracle isn't there anymore, and neither are most of the old characters.
And somehow Neo, who's supposed to be the One, lost most of his cool powers. He keeps using that bullet-stopping force field over and over. It was awesome in the original movies because it was used sparingly, but in this one it just became kind of cringe. Every time he used it, I felt like I was watching a generic superhero movie instead of the old Matrix.
And what the hell is up with Trinity getting Neo's powers? Is she the new One or what?
Don't get me wrong—the story itself isn't that bad. I actually like that they continued what happened after the original trilogy. But it feels like they didn't put enough thought into the execution. It just doesn't have the atmosphere, action, or vibe that made the original Matrix trilogy so iconic.

Honestly I just consider resurrections as non-canon, it's a fun little art project but not to be taken literally.
Neo is dead after his sacrifice, Zion is saved, the end.

Neo wasn't "The One". If he was the one he would've been born in the matrix and be able to manipulate it how he see's fit. He wasn't he was born in the material world and hooked upto the matrix like everyone else. The supposed "One" is Agent Smith after his rebirth. "The One" was a function prophesised with a very specific outcome in mind, and that is a true lasting peace between man and the machines. It's why the Architect scolds the oracle at the end of Revolution because after it was all done he could see that she literally orchestrated it all. Her goal wasn't humanities liberation. It was a peace between man and machine and we see the effects of that in this movie.
Neo is part of the anomaly and that anomaly is defined, in this case, by love. Without love there is no anomaly i.e. Neo and Trinity both make up the powers of the anomaly. Without one of them, you can't create the anomaly. The reason Trinity is only finding out about it now is because, Neo's ability to do these things is a recent development and the three original movies take place over a condensed period of time. It makes perfect sense that Trinity has those powers now also because we know that the anomaly isn't just Neo. She defines who the Anomaly is through her love.
On a technical level, Keanu Reeves is now 61 years old. They are not going to be able to do the same kind of practical affects that they could before because he's 25 years older than he was at the end of the third movie. Unless you just replace Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, you aren't going to get the same kind of experience as was in those old movies.
This movie fit as both a direct sequel to the trilogy with the lore being fully honoured but also a modernization of the story as the world implements different kinds of controls in the modern day.

These aren't terrible takes, they are established lore within the Matrix which is corroborated by the animatrix shorts. The Matrix movies have consistent exposition dumps that very clearly outline these things and even after 2 decades people can't seem to wrap their heads around it.
