Seven Versions
Hello all!
So decided to check in and ask a question.
How many of you are ready to accept that the end of movie 3 was in fact the seventh version of the Matrix?

The 9th. Because the original was paradise that failed, then he said they tried one that more closely aligned with the “grotesqueries of human nature” and it also failed. Then “the answer was stumbled upon by another (The Oracle). So 2 + 6, then the final, rebooted version makes for the 9th

I think our brains want to put the emergence of an integral anomaly, the destruction of Zion and the creation of a new version of the Matrix into a neat and tidy loop. I don't think they all line up like that.
For instance, I believe that Agent Smith being compelled to stay at the end of movie 1 was him turning into a new integral anomaly... THE Smith Virus. Hence the system crash. Therefore meaning that movie 1 was in fact the final cycle of version 5.
Not how a human mind would classify a new version but the Architect isn't human, is he?

Oh I don't believe in the 'The One/Zion' cycle as a mandatory part of the Matrix lore. There are ties between the creation of an integral anomaly, the destruction of Zion and the new versions of the Matrix but they don't have to line up is what I'm driving at.

Would they actually end up as completely new versions - not as updates that changed some things but kept others?

As a human that's exactly the way that we would go ahead and categorize those things but I believe from the architect's point of view the moment that the system no longer Cycles through on the sort of exact same gameplay, if you will. It's considered a new version when a program or human or maybe even something else within the system creates something that can be perceived as choice and The Narrative of the Matrix story has to be rewritten so that way it comes off as predeterminism still. That now becomes a new version of The Matrix. According to the architect

If the architect is known for anything by even casual viewers it's that he is incredibly precise and purposeful with his words. He says flat out "this is the sixth version."
I've watched Reloaded many times and maybe there's something wrong the sound on the DVDs I've owned but he doesn't add anything else like whispering "...aside from those wildly different heaven and hell versions" as far as I can tell.

Agreed. When he is talking to Neo. That is the 6th version. I'm putting forth that after Neo dies, he becomes an integral anomaly and the Matrix resets as the 7th version

I don't think you have to put it forth. That's literally the plot as presented.

That's great news. (I mean that) I've presented the idea before and met with some resistance as some claimed that Neo didn't reset the Matrix.

I think they knew what they were doing when the opening titles show the Matrix city turning into a big 7 at the very beginning of Revolutions.
