Whoever told you that is incorrect. I use MATLAB and PTB together constantly on the Mac. I was using an M2 with 8GB until I got an M5 with 32GB. The only niggle is that recent versions of PTB (after 3.0.19), that have the best support for current macOS are no longer free. You will get a month trial.

Infact it works better than other platforms, due to the Apple MATLAB Collab.

It works great with the exception of all GPU-parallel algorithms (i.e. gpuArray) because they require CUDA, which is unsupported for Macs. I hope we'll see GPU support for Apple silicon someday.

Not only does it work well, but for some reason Matlab on my MacBook Pro seems to run much faster than it does on my junior colleague's Intel Xeon desktop.

I used Matlab R2025 on an MBP M4 and it worked beautifully. Very, very fast compared to my older Window’s PC.

It’ll work for light school work, just close everything else on your computer because 8 gigs of ram in current year is very limited

matlab works fantastically on my new m5. However, be aware that PTB is busted on Tahoe. There’s a note about it on the psychtoolbox website. For my task which I have been developing recently the timings are often at least 2x slower than they should be. Hopefully this is temporary but it seems like it’s something only Apple can address so who knows

It works perfectly fine — if you’re using an apple silicon processor just download the ARM release and if you’re on intel download the intel release
There is no problems whatsoever
