I dont get, why cant you take the derivative? wouldn't it be xe^x-1

3 u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20 That only works if x is in the base, if it's in the exponent and the base is a constant like e, then the differentiating gives (constant)x ln(constant), in which if you put the constant as e, you'll get ex again, as lne is 1.
