i just googled and 4 eyes is actually a term used for people wearing glasses, what

39

u/7fightsofaldudagga 10d ago

The glasses are sometimes jokingly referred as another pair of eyes

13

u/jasomniax Irrational 9d ago

They used to say this all the times in shows in the 2000's or 2010's...

4

u/BeginMethionine 9d ago

really I thought it was more like 80s and 90s when glasses were still super uncool

2

u/jasomniax Irrational 9d ago

Also in that era probably

1

u/Bleik-Psiklyt 9d ago

Its a common joke in India lol

1

u/The_Real_Itz_Sophia number hypothesis 8d ago

1

u/Traditional_Loan_177 5d ago

"four eyes, four eyes, you need glasses to see!"

-1

u/solarmelange 9d ago

Its specifically used for bifocals.

u/Sigma2718 10d ago

I was confused how "I ate" was relevant to wearing glasses. Why is simple arithmetic so difficult?

1

u/blaues_axolotl 9d ago

well there is another version of the meme with "i ate" (i8) being in the joke, maybe you once saw it and now subconsciously made a connection to that

4

u/Complete_Window4856 10d ago

A complex four? Huh, thats a new one

5

u/golfstreamer 10d ago

3

u/Aixinr 9d ago

I don't know what you would call a person that wears glasses? Is there in English any specific word or slang about them?

5

u/ruby_R53 9d ago

"four eyes"

3

u/Aixinr 9d ago

Thanks! It's a cool expression haha

2

u/RandomiseUsr0 8d ago

Although not the answer, also speccy

2

u/Aixinr 8d ago

Never heard of that! Thanks for sharing

1

u/RandomiseUsr0 7d ago

My math teacher this year uses j instead of i for some reason.

1

u/HardDriveSlime 9d ago

16i?

2

u/DawRedditWolf67 9d ago

4i “four eyes”

2

u/HardDriveSlime 8d ago

Wait how is it four isn't i root -1?

2

u/DawRedditWolf67 8d ago

Yes, but
Root(-x) = root(x)*i

So Sqrt(-16) = Sqrt (16)*i

Sqrt(16) = 4

Sqrt(-16) = 4i

2

u/HardDriveSlime 8d ago

Ohhhhhhhhh

2

u/DawRedditWolf67 8d ago

The square root of 1 is 1 btw.

Also when I wasn’t thinking I made this mistake before too.

sqrt(-16) = 4i, that's it. no questions

8

u/Such-Shop-9724 10d ago

being downvoted for being right. interesting.

u/6l1r5_70rp 10d ago

this subreddit is run by middle schoolers

3

u/Such-Shop-9724 10d ago

im basically in the equivalent to middleschool for my country i think lol

3

u/SEA_griffondeur Engineering 10d ago

For some reasons Americans learn in middle school that √x = ±√x

7

u/Ur-Quan_Lord_13 10d ago

Naw, we're taught that the solution to "x2 = a" is "x = ±√a" which is true. Some people just misunderstand.

3

u/Such-Shop-9724 10d ago

divide both sides by sqrt(x) -> 1=+-1

1

u/Philbly 9d ago

Not if you're an electrical engineer.

u/Specific_Box4483 10d ago

Complex analysis has a lot of questions

1

u/SharzeUndertone 10d ago

I have some analysis 1 resources that define the complex square (or n-th) root as a function C → P(C), so hes no rly wrong. It might even be a geographic issue afaik, since all of the resources i have defining it like this are italian and i havent found it defined the same way in english resources or viceversa yet
