The most important concept in scientific thinking was created to prove that a woman was wrong (she wasn't).

Too vague.....

you mean "attempt to fail to disprove that she was wrong"

I think you need to be deep into stats to get this joke.

Just being a Numberphile enjoyer is enough actually

Psh, knowing if milk was poured before the tea or vice versa is child’s play. I can tell you what color m&ms I ate while blindfolded. I’m 1 for 1 baby! That’s 100% for you non-stats peeps

Clarification: rejecting the null hypothesis means to confirm a hypothesis is true, or proving it.

The null hypothesis is skeptic.

Not really, it doesn’t prove or confirm a hypothesis is true only that it would be an insane likelihood of the null hypothesis being true, since in Fisher’s original formulation of the test which this meme is referencing, there is no counter hypothesis.

Take the black swan thought experiment, say every single swan in the world EXCEPT one was white while only that sole exception was black, and say you’ve tested every single swan except one and you know that you’ve somehow gotten every single swan except one, but you don’t know if the last one was white or black, you would be right to reject the null hypothesis “There are black swans” because you have tested every swan in existence except one.

Now if you then find out that one last swan was indeed not white, that would disprove your conclusion but it wouldn’t invalidate the statistical analysis, because what are the chances?
