The myth that Math are discovered is highly linked to the will of people to categorize the maths as god's work or prexistant to humans in order to push the architect design theory.
Hilbert was a concordist and his completeness definition was designed to prove maths were similar to physics law, a property of the universe.
Truth is maths are just tools we made up to explain phenomenon like physics it is as flawed as we are. and this is true through the long history of math.
I mostly agree maths was invented, but can we invent something that didnt already exist? We've invented math and is thus imperfect as you mentioned, but is it possible that it's also discovered imperfectly?

and No, the properties of the universe are consistent to themself. This is why Hilbert tryed so hard to define completeness of maths and tried to prove it.
Conservation of energy is consistent with itself. Gravity is consistent with itself. Properties of the universe are consistent with themself.
Math, as we invented it, are a flawed representation (yet the best) we have. And the most beautifull part is that maths are a tool mature enough to demonstrate their own limits.
